AEC™FAMILY OF EXTERNAL
RAID CONTROLLERS
4000 Series: Ultra SCSI-to-Ultra SCSI
7000 Series: Fibre Channel-to-Ultra SCSI
equivalent to a 75 MHz Pentium®processor,
provides the power for all the I/O functions-
front and back; all the RAID and configura-
tion functions; performs all the environmental
monitoring of the controller and the cache
battery backup; and is the engine to run the
embedded Real Time Operating System
(RTOS). Two independent PCI memory
controllers enable dedicated parity and data
caching for maximum performance during
multiple read/write operations.
Enhanced availability
The AEC Family of External RAID
Controllers include a high-performance
NiMH battery that delivers 72 hours of
uptime for 20 MBytes of cache memory.
Adaptec’s AEC Family of External RAID
controllers can be configured with data
path redundancy for higher availability
using Adaptec’s host-based software. Other
availability features include parity-protected
CPU memory and disk cache,standard
PC-type Lithium disk battery for continuous
RTC power during unit shut-down.
Easy management
The AEC Family of External RAID
Controllers supports Adaptec’s CI/O
Management Software and GUI interface
(Graphic User Interface). It takes the com-
plexity out of Array management and pro-
vides the network manager a control center
for monitoring and managing disk storage
for the entire network. Adaptec’s CI/O
Management Software supports Event
Notification through SNMP protocol
(available on the AEC-4412B). This feature
notifies you of critical events effecting the
storage Array. Remote Array management
and environmental monitoring is supported
through the host SCSI port and serial port
(RS-232) interfaces. Arrays can also be con-
figured,monitored,and managed from the
controller’s menu-driven LCD front panel
with Adaptec’s Disk Array Administrator
embedded software.

is designed for high performance,scalability
and complete data protection for the midrange
to high-end storage markets. Customers
requiring outstanding performance,easy
host-interface upgrade capability from SCSI
to Fibre Channel, and simplified array con-
figuration and management, Adaptec is your
external RAID storage solution. Each AEC
External RAID Controller is housed in a
5.25-inch half-height canister with cache
battery backup,integrated fan, LCD/LED/push-
button front panel and supports up to 15
disk drives on each Ultra SCSI device channel.
