SECTION 1 - DESCRIPTION
1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND CAPABILITIES
1.1 DESCRIPTION
The TCAS-201-2 Ramp Test Set is a
ruggedized simulator designed for ease of use,
portability, reliability and long service life.
Power is derived from an internal battery. An
ac input connection is provided for battery
charging, bench operation or servicing use.
Most accessories (Flat Antenna, Antenna
Cable, AC Power Cable, Flexible Antenna,
Antenna Shield and Fuse) are kept in the
Storage Compartment (Case Assembly Lid).
The Tripod is stored separately. Refer to
Appendix C for description of accessories.
The TCAS-201-2 Ramp Test Set, simulating a
transponder with Mode C and Mode S
capabilities, allows the user to perform the
required ground tests for Follow-On
Certifications as defined in the FAA Advisory
Circular #20-131, Airworthiness and
Operational Approval of Traffic Alert and
Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS II) and
Mode S Transponders. The TCAS-201-2 also
simulates many in-flight conditions required for
Follow-On Certifications. The TCAS-201-2
Test Set can be used to eliminate many costly
hours of flying time.
1.2 FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES
The TCAS-201-2 has the following features
and capabilities:
OAccurate measurements of interrogator
transmitting frequency, output power and
Whisper-Shout accuracy (using Attenuation
control).
OScenario testing, simulating planned
encounters with Mode C or Mode S
intruders in order to activate aural and
visual Traffic Advisories (TAs) and
Resolution Advisories (RAs).
ORuggedized construction designed for the
conditions encountered in the ramp
environment.
OSoft-press key controls for easy operation.
OBuilt-In-Test (BIT) for confidence testing
and fault isolation.
ONon-volatile memory for storing up to ten
user-programmed scenarios.
OSelectable altitude levels to test inhibit
climb RAs and low altitude operation.
OBroadcast Interrogation Monitor with
display of Interrogating Aircraft Address.
OSquitter generation with selectable squitter
address.
OSelectable percent reply (ATCRBS) in 10%
steps.
OLCD Display with automatic light sensing
illumination control.
ORF, Monitor, Interrogation Video and Sync
Pulse outputs for use in bench testing.
OInternal Battery allowing up to 1.5 hours of
operation before recharge.
OAutomatic power shutdown after
approximately 15 minutes of non-use when
ac power is not connected.
OSize and usability to allow one person
operation on the ramp.
OSwitchable TCAS I (no P4width detection)
or TCAS II (normal P4width detection)
operation.
