
TheTouchsafeProBuddyisaportablehandhelddevicethatcanbeusedtoregisterwhenaNurseis
presentatacall,tosummonfurtherassistanceifrequired,andtocancelthecalldown.

Inadditiontothe3pushbuttonstheBuddyhasapull‐pinalarmfacilityonthewristlanyard.Ifthelanyard
ispulled‐outoftheBuddyitwillpermanentlytransmitanemergencyalarmuntilthelanyardisclippedback
intoplace.Thisfeatureisintendedforuseinstaffattacksituationstomakeiteasiertoraiseanalarm.

TheBuddyusesinfra‐redtotransmitcommandsignals(likeaTVremotecontrol)thereforeitrequiresclear
lineofsightanditmustbepointedinthegeneraldirectionoftheTouchsafeProCallPointwhenabuttonis
pressed.NursePresentandCancelsignalsarelowpowerandonlyworkwithin1.5metresoftheCallPoint,
theCallbutton(orEmergencypull‐pin)arehighpowersignalsandwillworkupto5metresaway.

TheBuddyisdesignedtobeclippedonabeltorcarriedaroundthewrist,thepushbuttonsarecolour
codedthesameasTouchsafeProCallPoints.AreassuranceLEDwillilluminatewhenabuttonispressed.






Theinstructionsinthisuserguideassumeastandardkeypadbuttonconfigurationi.e.
NursePresent,CallandCancel.Itispossibletoassignthebuttonstoperformdifferent
functionstothatindicatedonthelegends‐refertotheinstallationguidefordetails.





TouchsafeProBuddykeypadsandlanyardsareembeddedwithanantimicrobialagentduringmanufacture.
Thispreventsthegrowthofharmfulmicro‐organismstherebypreventingthespreadofgermsanddisease.





ForpeaceofmindandtoensureyoursystemismaintainedtothehigheststandardAidcallrecommendan
annualmaintenancecontract.Thiswillprovidevitalassistanceintimesofneedfromanationwideteamof
trainedServiceEngineerswhospecialiseinwirelessNursecallsystems.

Apreventativemaintenancevisit(PMV)isalsoavailablefromAidcall,thiscoversthereplacementofall
batteries,afullsystemtest,softwareupdates(whereapplicable)andaServiceCertificate.


MONTHLYMAINTENANCE

IfaBuddyisnotinregularuseitshouldbetestedonamonthlybasis.Ifthefirstbuttonpressindicatesa
lowbattery(redreassuranceLED)butsubsequentpressesshowagreenLEDthenthereisnoneedfor
concernoverthebatterystate–thisisnormalifthedevicehasnotbeenusedforaprolongedperiod.

Buddy’sshouldberegularlycleanedwithanti‐bacterialwipes,atthesametimetheyshouldbecheckedfor
signsofexternalphysicaldamage.Brokenorcrackedplasticcantrapdirtandcontributetothespreadof
germs.AnyBuddy’sfounddamagedshouldbereplacedimmediately.Buddy’sneedingrepaircanbe

BI‐ANNUALMAINTENANCE

AlthoughtheBuddybatteryismonitoredandapoorstateofchargeisindicatedbyaredreassuranceLEDit

used.Atthesametimeatestcallshouldbemadetoconfirmthebatteryhasbeenfittedcorrectly.






12.REPLACINGTHEBATTERY

WhentheBuddybatteryisrunninglowthereassuranceLEDwill
illuminateRedinsteadofGreenwhenabuttonispressed.






Whenthelowbatterywarningstartsthebatterywillcontinuetofunctionfor
ashortperiodbutalwaysarrangeforitsreplacementassoonaspossible.

Toreplacethebattery,removethescrewfromtherearoftheBuddyandcarefullyremovethetopcover.
Note:thelidwillremainattachedonthekeypadtail.RemovethebatteryfromitsholderonthePCBinside
theBuddybase.Note:Buddyprogrammingisretainedwhenthebatteryisremoved/replaced.


