FOR USE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
(K model only)
This appliance is supplied with a fitted three pin
mains plug. A 3 amp fuse is fitted in the plug.
Should the fuse need to be replaced, use a 3 amp
fuse approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. When
replacing the fuse, you must ensure that any
removable fuse covers are correctly refitted.
If you should lose the fuse cover, please contact
your nearest AIWA dealer.
DO NOT CUT OFF THE PLUG FROM THIS
APPLIANCE.
If the piug fitted is not suitable for the power points
in your home, or the cable is too short to reach a
power point, obtain an appropriate safety ap-
proved extension lead or adaptor. If in any doubt
please consult a qualified electrician.
If the plug is cut off, remove the fuse and dispose
of the plug immediately. THERE IS DANGER
OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE
CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY
13 AMP SOCKET.
if anew plugisto be fitted please ensure it contains

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accor-
dance with the following code.

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
appliance may not correspond with the colour
markings identifying the terminals in your plug,
proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured BLUE must be con-
nected to the terminal which is marked by the letter
N or coloured BLACK.
The wire which is coloured BROWN must be
connected to the terminal which is marked by the
letter L or coloured RED.
DO NOT connect either the BLUE or BROWN wire
of the mains lead to the earth terminal (marked
with the letter E or by the earth symbol + or
coloured GREEN or GREEN/YELLOW) of a three
pin plug.

PRECAUTIONS
Follow the advice below for safe and appropriate
operation.
On location
« Donotuse the unit in places which are extremely
hot, cold, dusty or humid.
¢ Place the unit on a flat, even surface.
¢ Do not restrict the air flow of the unit by placing
it in a spot with bad air flow, covering it with a
cloth, or placing it on a carpet.
¢ If you stack your cassette deck on top of an
amplifier or tuner, or you use it at the same time
as the television, it may be affected by hum. If
this happens, change the installation location of
your unit.
On AC voitage
Before use, check that the rated voltage of your
unit matches your local voltage.
To adjust the AC VOLTAGE selector
(HE model only) > EX
Your unit should have been set for use on your
local voltage. If not, change the AC VOLTAGE
selector on the rear panel with a screwdriver or
similar object. 110 — 120 V or 220 — 240 V can be
selected.
On safety
* When connecting and disconnecting the AC
cord, grip the plug and not the cord itself. Pulling
the cord may damage it and thus be hazardous.
* If the AC cord is broken or damaged, or if the
wires are exposed, contact your dealer or an
Aiwa service station and have it replaced or
repaired immediately.
Should any trouble occur, disconnect the AC cord
and contact qualified service personnel.
Fur einen sicheren Betrieb beachten Sie stets die
folgenden Hinweise.
Aufstellung
¢ Betreiben Sie das Gerat nicht an heiBen, sehr
kalten, staubigen oder feuchten Platzen.
* Stellen Sie das Gerat auf einer ebenen Unterlage
auf.
* Nicht die Beliftung des Gerates durch
Aufstellung an einem Ort mit geringem LuftfluB8
beeintrachtigen, das Gerat mit einem Tuch
abdecken oder auf einem Teppich aufstellen.
« Wenn das Cassettendeck auf einen Verstarker
oder Tuner aufgestellt oder gleichzeitig mit einem
Fernseher verwendet wird, kann es durch
Brummen gestdrt werden. In diesem Fall sollte
der Aufstellungsort des Gerates geandert
werden.
Netzspannung
Vor der Verwendung sollte sichergestelit werden,
daB die eingestelite Betriebsspannung des Gerates
mit der Ortlichen Netzspannung Uibereinstimmt.
Einstellung des Spannungswahlschalters AC
VOLTAGE (Nur Modell HE) — EY
Das Ger€t sollte vor der Verwendung auf die
6rtliche Netzspannung eingestelit sein. Wenn dies
nicht der Fall ist, sollte der Spannungswahischalter
(AC VOLTAGE) auf der Geratertickseite mit einem
Schraubenzieher oder einem Ahnlichen
Gegenstand eingestellt werden. 110-120 V oder
220 — 240 V kann eingestellt werden.
Sicherheitshinweise
« ZumAnschiieBen und Abtrennen des Netzkabels
fassen Sie stets am Stecker und niemals am
Kabel selbst an. Das Ziehen am Kabel kann zu
Beschadigungen flhren und gefahrlich sein.
¢ Bei einem Netzkabelbruch, bei Beschadigungen
und bei beschadigter isolierung des Netzkabels
wenden Sie sich zwecks Reparatur an Ihren
Handler oder den Aiwa-Kundendienst, um das
Kabel sofort auszuwechseln oder zu reparieren.
Sollten Probleme auftreten, ziehen Sie den
Netzstecker und wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihren
AIWA-Kundendienst.

Priére de respecter les consignes suivantes pour
utiliser 'appareil correctement et en toute sécurité.
Emplacement
¢ Ne pas utiliser l'appareil dans des endroits
extreémement chauds, froids, poussiéreux ou
humides.
¢ Poser l'appareil sur une surface plate et lisse.
* Ne pas géner la ventilation de !’appareil en le
mettant dans un endroit mal aéré, enle couvrant
d'un chiffon ou en le posant sur une moquette.
* Si on pose le magnétocassette sur un
amplificateur ou un tuner, ou si on lutilise en
méme temps qu'un téléviseur, cela risque de
produire un ronflement. Le cas échéant, changer
emplacement de l'appareil.
Tension du secteur
Avant Putilisation, vérifier que la tension nominale
de l'appareil correspond a celle du secteur.
Pour régler le sélecteur AC VOLTAGE (modéle
HE seulement) —
L’appareil doit étre réglé pour utilisation sur la
tension du secteur local. Si ce n’est pas le cas,
changer le réglage du sélecteur AC VOLTAGE,
situé au dos de l'appareil, a l'aide un tournevis ou
d'un objet similaire. On peut sélectionner 110 —
120 V ou 220 - 240 V.
Sécurité
¢ Pourbrancher ou débrancher le cordon secteur,
le tenir par sa fiche et non pas par fe cordon
proprement dit. Toute traction sur le cordon peut
lendommager et étre ainsi dangereux.
* Sile cordon secteur est coupé ou endommage,
ou si les fils sont exposés, contacter
immédiatement le revendeur ou un centre de
service Aiwa pour le faire remplacer ou réparer.
Encasde probleme, débrancher le cordon secteur
et contacter un technicien qualifié.

Voltaje de CA
Antes de utilizar el aparato, confirme que el voltaje
nominal de su aparato coincide con el volitaje
usado en su localidad.
Para ajustar el selector de voltaje de CA (AC
VOLTAGE) (Sdlo el modelo HE) > EY
Su aparato debe de estar ajustado para usarse
con el voltaje de su localidad. En caso de no
estario, cambie la posicién del selector AC VOLT-
AGE situado en el panel posterior, usando un
destornillador u otra herramienta similar. Puede
seleccionarse 110 — 120 V 0 220 - 240 V.
Seguridad
¢ En la conexién o desconexién de! cordén de
alimentacion CA, tome del enchufe y no del
cord6én mismo. Si tira usted del cordon, podria
dafiarse y causar serio peligro.
* En caso de que el cordén de alimentacién CA
esté roto o averiado, o bien cuando sus
conductores estén descubiertos, péngase
inmediatamente en contacto con su
concesionario o el Centro de Servicio de Aiwa

reparado.
En caso de ocurrir alguna falla, desconecte el
cordon dealimentacién CA y pongase en contacto
con el personal de reparacion cualificado.

Come installare lunita

caldi, freddi, polverosi o umidi.

insufficiente, coprendola con una tela oppure
mettendola su un tappeto.
* Sela piastra a cassetta viene messa sulla parte
superiore di un’amplificatore oppure un tuner, o
se viene utilizzatainsieme con il televisore, essa
potrebbe essere disturbata da ronzio. Se questo
fatto viene osservato, cambiare la posizione per

Prima dell'uso dell’unita, verificare se la tensione
nominale dell'unita corrisponde bene alla tensione
locale.

Sicurezza
* Quando si collega o si scollega il cordone CA,
afferrare il cordone dallo spinotto e non dal
proprio cordone. Tirando dai cordone si potrebbe
danneggiarlo, causando cosi un pericolo.
* Se il cordone CA é danneggiato oppure rotto,
oppure se ifilisono esposti, si prega dicontattare
il distributore oppure una stazione di servizio
Aiwa per sostituirlo 0 ripararlo immediatamente.

contattare un personale di servizio qualificato.

TAPE REC TAPE PLAY
Connect equipment before connecting the AC
cord.
PLAY/LINE OUT jacks
These are the jacks through which the playback
sound is conducted. Use the supplied stereo pin
cords to connect them to the TAPE PLAY, LINE IN
or AUX IN jacks on the amplifier or receiver.
REC/LINE IN jacks
These are the jacks that feed in the sound from the
sound source (tuner, stereo amplifier, etc.) which
you want to record. Use the supplied stereo pin
cords to connect them to the TAPE REC or LINE
OUT jacks on the sound source which you want to
record.
Note on connections
Firmly insert the red plug into the R jack, and the
white plug into the L jack.
Loose connections may cause noise.
Remote coniroi
When this unit is connected to the Aiwa XA-950
stereo integrated amplifier, basic operations such
as playback, recording, fast forward and rewind
can be carried out using the remote control sup-
plied with the amplifier.
PHONES jack
For connection of headphones with 8 ohms to 1k
ohm impedance.
POWER SUPPLY
Plug the AC cord that extends from the rear panel
into an AC household outiet, and turn the unit on
and off by pressing the POWER button.
When the power is turned on
The H indicator flashes for about 4 seconds when
the power is turned on, to show that the unit is in
standby mode.

LINE IN
Die Gerate sollten vor dem AnschluB des
Netzsteckers an eine Steckdose miteinander
verbunden werden.
PLAY/LINE OUT-Buchsen
Uber diese Buchsen erfolgt die Wiedergabe. Die
mitgelieferten Stereo-Stiftkabel zum AnschiuB an
die TAPE PLAY-, LINE IN- bzw. AUX IN-Buchsen
des Verstarkers oder Recievers verwenden.
REC/LINE IN-Buchsen
Uber diese Buchsen wird der Ton fiirdie Aufnahme
von der Klangquelle (Tuner, Stereo-Verstarker
usw.) eingegeben. Die mitgelieferten Stereo-
Stiftkabel zum AnschluB an die TAPE REC- oder
LINE OUT-Buchsen des fiir die Aufnahme
benutzten Gerates verwenden.
Hinweise zu den Anschliissen
Den roten Stecker fest in die R-Buchse und den
weif3en in die L-Buchse einstecken.
Lose Anschitisse k6bnnen Rauschen verursachen.
Fernbedienung
Beim Anschlu@3 dieses Gerates an den integrierten
Stereo-Verstarker XA-950 von Aiwa kénnen
grundiegende Bedienungsvorgange wie
Wiedergabe, Aufnahme, Vor- und Zuriickspulen
mit der Fernbedienung des Verstarkers ausgefuhrt
werden.
PHONES-Buchse
Zum AnschiuB eines Kopthérers mit 8 Ohm bis 1
kOhm Impedanz.
STROMVERSORGUNG
Den Stecker des aus der Gerateritckseite
kommenden Netzkabels an eine Steckdose
anschlieBen und das Gerat durch Driicken auf die
POWER-Taste ein- bzw. ausschalten.
Bei eingeschaitetem Gerat
Die #l-Anzeige blinkt nach dem Einschalten etwa
vier Sekunden Jang und zeigt damit an, daB das
Gerat auf Betriebsbereitschaft eingesteilt ist.

Télécommande
Quand cet appareil est connecté a ’amplificateur
stéréo intégré Aiwa XA-950, les opérations de
base telles que lecture, enregistrement, avance
rapide et rebobinage peuvent étre faites a l'aide de
la télecommande fournie avec cet amplificateur.
Prise pour casque (PHONES)
Cette prise permet la connexion d’un casque d'une
impédance de 8 Q a 1 kQ.
ALIMENTATION ELECTRIQUE
Brancher le cordon d’alimentation sortant du dos
de l'appareil a une prise secteur, puis mettre
l'appareil sous tension en appuyant sur la touche
POWER.
Lors de la mise sous tension
Lors de la mise sous tension, le temoin Il clignote
pendant environ quatre secondes, pour indiquer
que l'appareil est en mode attente.

Tomas PLAY/LINE OUT
Estas son las tomas por las cuales se conduce el
sonido de reproduccién. Conecte los cordones
estereofénicos con clavijas suministrados a las
tomas TAPE PLAY, LINE IN o AUX IN del
amplificador o receptor.
Tomas REC/LINE IN
Estas son las tomas que alimentan el sonido
proveniente de la fuente sonora (sintonizador,
amplificador estereofonico, etc.) que usted desea
grabar. Use los cordones estereofénico con clavijas
suministrados para conectarlos alas tomas TAPE
REC o LINE OUT de la fuente sonora que desea
usted grabar.
Notas sobre las conexiones
Inserte firmemente la clavija roja en la toma R, y la
clavija blanca en la toma L.
Las conexiones flojas pueden causar ruido.
Control remoto
Cuando este aparato se encuentre conectado al
amplificador estereofonico integrado Aiwa XA-
950, las operaciones basicas tales como la

suministrado con el amplificador.
Toma PHONES
Para la conexién de los auriculares con una

FUENTE DE ALIMENTACION
Conecte el cordon de alimentacién CA que se
extiende del panel posterior al tomacorriente de
CA, y encienda y apague el aparato presionando
el bot6n POWER.
Cuando {a alimentacién esta desconectada
El indicador If parpadea durante 4 segundos al
conectar laalimentacion, para indicar que el aparato
esta en el modo de espera.
Collegare lunita prima di collegare il cordone
CA.
Prese jack PLAY/LINE OUT (USCITA DI LINEA/
RIPRODUZIONE)
Queste sono delle prese jack attraverso le quali
passa il suono di riproduzione. Utilizzare i cordoni
a spinotti stereo forniti per collegarli alle prese jack
TAPE PLAY, LINE IN oppure AUX IN
sull'amplificatore oppure il ricevitore.
Prese jack REC/LINE IN
Queste sono delle prese jack che alimentano ij
suono dalla fonte sonora (tuner, amplificatore ste-
reo, ecc.) che si vuole registrare. Utilizzare icordoni
a spinotti stereo forniti per collegarli alle prese
TAPE REC oppure LINE OUT sulla fonte sonora
che si vuole registrare.
Nota sui collegamenti
Inserire fermamente lo spinotto rosso nella presa
jack R, e lo spinotto bianco nella presa jack L.
tcollegamenti allentati possono causare del rumore.
Telecomando
Quando questa unita viene collegata
all’amplificatore integrato stereo Aiwa XA-950, le
operazioni di base come riproduzione,
registrazione, avanzamento rapido e
riavvoigimento, possono essere eseguite
utilizzando il telecomando dotato con
lamplificatore.

ALIMENTAZIONE

To insert a cassette — EY.
1 Press the 4 EJECT button to open the cassette
compartment.
2 Insert the cassette tape into the cassette com-
partment with the exposed tape pointing down-
wards and the side of the tape you want to hear
facing you.
3 Push the cassette compartment door to close.
The Anti-Modulation Tape Stabilizer (AMTS)
holds the cassette firmly in the deck and the
automatic tape selector system automatically
detects the type of tape being used.
¢ For AD-F550, AMTS and one of the tape type
indicators (NORMAL, CrOz or METAL) light up.
Tape slack — EJ
Before using acassette, use a pencil or similar tool
to take up tape slack, as shown in the figure. Slack
tape can become jammed in the mechanism and
break.
120-minute or longer tapes
These are extremely thin and easily deformed or
damaged. They are not recommended.
To prevent accidental erasure —
Use a screwdriver or pointed tool to break off the
plastic tabs.

Cover the tab openings with cellophane tape. Take
care not to cover the CrOz tape detection slot ©

2 Die Kassette mit der offenen Seite nach unten
und der wiederzugebenden Seite nach auBen
weisend in das Kassettenfach einsetzen.
3 Die Klappe des Kassettenfachs zum SchlieBen
andriicken.
Durch den Antimodulations-Bandstabilisator
(AMTS) wird die Kassette im Deck fest gehalten
und das Bandwahli-System stellt automatisch
den Typ des verwendeten Bandes fest.
e¢ Beim Modeil AD-F550 leuchtet die AMTS-
Anzeige und eine der Band-Anzeigen (NOR-
MAL, CrOz oder METAL) auf.
Bandlose ~ E]
Loses Band vor dem Einiegen der Kassette mit
einem Bleistift oder einem ahnlichen Gegenstand
wie in der Abbildung gezeigt straffen. Loses Band
kann reifen oder sich im Mechanismus verfangen.
120 Minuten oder langere Kassetten
Diese Bander sind sehr diinn und k6énnen leicht
beschadigt werden. Daher werden diese Kassetten
nicht fir die Verwendung mit diesem Gerat
empfohien.
Schutz gegen versehentliches L6schen —
Die Léschschutzzunge der Kassette mit einem
Schraubenzieher oder einem anderen spitzen
Gegenstand herausbrechen.

Lesystéme stabilisateur antimodulation (AMTS)
tient fermement la cassette dans la platine et le
sélecteur automatique de cassette détecte

¢ Sur le modéle AD-F550, AMTS et un des
indicateurs de type de cassette (NORMAL, CrOz
ou METAL) s’allument.
Tension du ruban + EY
Avant d’utiliser une cassette, utiliser un crayon ou
un objet similaire pour tendre le ruban magnétique,
comme montré sur la figure. Un ruban magnétique
détendu peut s’emméler dans le mécanisme et se
rompre.
Cassettes de 120 minutes ou plus
Le ruban magnétique de ces cassettes est
extrémement fin et se déforme et s’endommage
facilement. Ces cassettes ne sont pas
recommandeées.
Pour éviter un effacement accidentel —
Utiliser un tournevis ou tout autre objet effilé pour
casser les ergots en plastique.
