DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Remov ng the Ma n Case
1) Remove 11 s rews on the rear lid shown by arrows •
Install ng the Ma n Case
1) Che k that the fibre apper of the REC/PB PC Board (pattern
die) is fixed properly.

be ause it is likely to lift up when it is peeled off

2) Lower all the lever swit hes in the dire tion of the arrow.
2) Remove 9 knobs. BBH8 3) Be sure to install in the order (1) — (3). Be areful: when
it is mounted in orre tly, it may damage the dial plate
and the display PC Boards, et .

(It is not required to remove the assette lid)

Removing the radio hassis
1) Be sure to remove the level meter before starting work to
prevent the pointer o f the level meter from being damaged.
2) Loosen the s rew and lift up the hook.
3) Remove 3 s rews and lift up the radio hassis in the dire tion
of the arrow. The radio hassis, REC/PB, tuner, MS and
display PC Boards are removed at that time.
Installing the radio hassis
1) Hook the ja k plate to the tab of the rear lid while paying
attention not to pin h the wire. Compress the radio hassis
against the dire tion of the arrow after he king that the
tuner PC Board is inserted into the rib.

Disassemble or repair the MD-3 me hanism while paying attention
to the springs and levers, et . shown in the figure below.

Be sure to hook the T-spring (PLA Y lever) to the am of the
gear when installing the gear PLAY.
Hook it from the inside of the gear using a lo k s rewdriver
as shown in the figure. Perform the same for the gear FR
and am gear PAUSE.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MD-3 MECHANISM
Descr pt on of the PLAY Operat on
With the plate button pressed, the trigger lever (PLA Y) moves in
the dire tion of the arrow <- (1), the gear (PLA Y) is released from
the boss of the trigger lever (PLA Y ) engages with the gear flywheel
and rotates in the dire tion of the arrow <- (2), the boss (A) of the
gear (P LA Y ) tou hes the trigger lever (PLA Y) and the gear
stops rotating.
When the gear (PLA Y) rotates, the lever (PLA Y) moves in the
dire tion of the arrow <- (3) along the am groove on the rear of
the gear to push up the operation hassis in the dire tion of the
arrow «- (4).
The PLA Y button whi h has been lo ked is released by pressing
the STOP button, the trigger lever (PLA Y) moves in the dire tion of
the arrow *- (5), the boss (A) of the gear (PLA Y) is released and the
PLA Y operation stops.

When the FF button is pressed, the trigger lever FF moves in the
dire tion of the arrow (1), the boss of the gear FR am is released
and engages with the gear wheel to rotate in the dire tion of the
arrow. <- (2), the boss (A) tou hes the boss of the trigger lever FF
and the gear FR am stops. The FR lever B moves in the dire tion
of the arrow «- (3) along the groove of the gear FR am, the F R
lever B moves in the dire tion of the arrow <- (3), the FR lever C
ompresses the gear of the FR lever Ass'y against the Take-up
reel dis ass'y to perform the FF operation.

REW Operat on
When the R EW button is pressed, the trigger lever R EW moves in
the dire tion of the arrow <- (1) and pushes the lever R EW in the
dire tion of the arro w <- (2). The trigger lever FF releases the boss
A of the gear at th at time, the gear FR engages with the gear fly
wheel, rotates in the dire tion of the arrow <- (3), boss B tou hes
the trigger lever F F and rotation stops.
The FR gear B is moved in the dire tion the arrow «- (4) by means
of the am of the gear FR following the rotation of the gear F R ,
pulls the FR lever C in the dire tion of the arrow «- (5) and moves
the FR lever ass'y in the dire tion of the arrow <- (6) to rotate the
Take-up reel dis reel dis ass'y to perform the REW operation.

Descr pt on of the PAUSE Operat on
When the P A U SE button is pressed, the trigger lever PA USE moves
in the dire tion of the arrow *- (1), the boss A of the gear PA USE
is released, enages with the gear flywheel and rotates in the
dire tion of the arrow <- (2), the boss B tou hes the trigger PAU SE
and rotation stops.
The PAU SE lever moves in the dire tion of the arrow •*- (3) along
the am groove of the PAU SE gear at that time. The PLA Y idler
lever and the pin h lever ass'y is moved to perform the PAU SE
operation at that time.
When the PA USE button is pressed again, the button is released
from lo king and simultaneously the boss B of the gear PA USE is
released from the trigger lever PAU SE and the PAUSE operation
