Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AAD2000C02
1. DESCRIPTION
1.1. The AAD2000C02
The AAD2000C02 is a low-distortion amplifier-distributor module designed for use in
professional audio environments.
The module includes one input and four balanced outputs using (euroblock) type
terminal block connectors.
The input includes a transformer that provides galvanic isolation and extends the
common mode voltage range of the input signal.
The module includes a potentiometer for gain adjustment with a range of ±20dB.
Each audio output has an independent amplifier that improves the isolation between
channels.
In addition to the front panel input and outputs the module can receive and output
signals via a bus on the rear panel for connection to adjacent modules. The input signal
can be passed through to the rear panel bus connector, and the front panel output signal
be set to the rear bus output instead of the front panel input.
The rear bus is a summing type. The input of each module can be passed through to this
bus for combination with signals from other modules.
The front panel includes an LED indicator that can be assigned several functions:
overload indicator, silence indicator, color changing to function as a VU meter or color
changing to function as a peak level meter.
The AAD2000 family is comprised of several audio distributors that differ in the presence
or lack of an input transformer and the type of connectors used: euroblock or XLR. The
various members of the family are described as follows:
•AAD2000C01: Distributor with one input, four outputs and euroblock terminal
connectors. Occupies one slot of a mounting frame, does not have an input transformer
and permits access to the rear bus.
•AAD2000C02: Distributor with one input, four outputs and euroblock terminal
connectors. Occupies one slot of a mounting frame, includes an input transformer and
permits access to the rear bus.
•AAD2000C03: Distributor with one input, three outputs and XLR connectors. Occupies
three slots of a mounting frame, does not have an input transformer and does not
permit access to the rear bus.

•AAD2000C04: Distributor with one input, three outputs and XLR connectors. Occupies
three slots of a mounting frame, includes an input transformer and does not permit
access to the rear bus.
It is possible to monitor the AAD2000C02 status remotely using a communications
controller module installed in the same mounting frame. In addition, certain controller
modules provide SNMP management and the ability to record events in a file including
date and time information for further analysis.
The AAD2000C02 is a TL2000 terminal line module and can be housed in a two rack unit
(2 RU) UR2000 mounting frame.

3. INSTALLATION
THE AAD2000C02 MODULE CONTAINS ELECTRONIC DEVICES SENSITIVE TO
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. Always use antistatic bags clearly identified
with a high degree of shielding for storage and transportation.
3.1. Initial inspection
Verify that the package has been properly handled during transport. After opening the
packaging, check that the AAD2000C02 module is inside.
You must notify your Albalá Ingenieros distributor or dealer of any damage or defects
observed.
Follow the instructions in this manual to install this module in the mounting frame.
3.2. Safety instructions
•This equipment must be connected to a mains outlet with a protective
earth connection. Never use extension cords that do not have protective
earthing connection. The lack of an effective electrical connection between
the ground pin in the mains input connector of the equipment and the
protective earth of the electrical power distribution can cause serious harm.
•All modules of the Albalá Ingenieros TL2000 terminal line can be
hot-plugged or unplugged without suffering any damage or affecting the
processes that are currently taking place in other modules in the same
mounting frame.
•The AAD2000C02 module and the mounting frame should always be
installed, maintained, operated and removed by personnel with sufficient
technical qualifications. The equipment should never be placed in damp
areas, near splashing liquid, or in explosive or corrosive atmospheres.
Neither modules nor mounting frames can be used in applications that
could endanger human life.
11

3.3. Environmental considerations
This symbol indicates that this equipment must be deposited at a collection
point for proper waste treatment once it has reached the end of its useful
life.
3.4. Power considerations
The power supplies for the mounting frames in the TL2000 family of are designed to
provide 3W per slot. The power consumption for the majority of the TL2000 family
modules is less than 3 W under all operating conditions, therefore as many as 19
modules can be installed in a two-unit UR2000 mounting frame.
Under normal operating conditions (audio signals consisting of music or vocals with a
level of 4dBu) the power consumption of the AAD2000C02 is less than 3 W, therefore a
maximum of 19 modules can be housed in a two-unit UR2000 mounting frame.
If the AAD2000C02 is used to distribute signals with a level greater than 4dBu and all of
the outputs are loaded by 600Ω then the power consumption of the may exceed the 3
W destined for each slot, and therefore the maximum number of AAD2000C02 modules
that can be installed will be lower than the number of slots in the mounting frames.
The maximum power consumption of the AAD2000C02 is produced with signals with a
level of +24dBu and when all the outputs are loaded with 600Ω. In such circumstances
the power consumption is 30% higher than the permitted maximum, and therefore the
maximum number of AAD2000C02 modules that can be installed in a mounting frame
is 15.
No power limit is applied when none of the outputs are loaded by 600Ω because the
power consumption in this case is lower than the maximum. Therefore all the slot of a
mounting frame can be loaded with AAD2000C02 modules.
3.5. Module configuration
The module includes program jumpers that should be configured before installing the
modules in the mounting frame.
The program jumpers are used to interconnect each module to the adjacent modules,
and are labeled BACKPLANE BUS ACCESS in the silkscreen of the rear panel. Half of the
jumpers are labeled LEFT and the other half are labeled RIGHT. Those jumpers labeled
LEFT are used to connect to the module installed immediately to the left in the mounting
frame, and those labeled RIGHT do the same but for the module to the right. The
jumpers permit combination of the signals from two or more modules in the same
mounting frame within the bus.
When the internal bus is not used the program jumpers should be set to the OFF
position. This is their factory default position. When intercommunication with other
12

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AAD2000C02
modules using the bus is desired set the corresponding LEFT or RIGHT jumpers to their
ON positions, depending upon the position of the adjacent module with which
communication is desired.
For example, if a mounting frame contains four AAD2000C02 modules that will all share
the internal bus, located in slots 4, 5, 6 and 7: The middle modules in slots 5 and 6 should
have all of their program jumpers set to ON. The module in slot 4 will only have those
jumpers labeled RIGHT set to ON for communication with slot 5, and the module in slot
7 will only have those jumpers labeled LEFT set to ON for communication with slot 6.
3.6. Installing the module in the mounting frame
The following steps should be followed in order to install a AAD2000C02 module in the
mounting frame.
1 - Remove the blank panel covering the front of the empty slot chosen for installing the
AAD2000C02 in the mounting frame.
2 - Insert the AAD2000C02 module into the front of the mounting frame. The edges of
the card slide into two plastic guides inside the mounting frame.
3 - Secure the module to the mounting frame using the two front screws.
After these steps, the module is ready to be connected to other equipment.

3.7. Interconnection
The arrangement of the front panel connectors of the AAD2000C02 module is shown in
the following figure.
Front panel of the AAD2000C02
The AAD2000C02 module includes one analog audio input input (IN) and four analog
audio outputs (OUT1 to OUT4).
The front panel has not been designed to support mechanical stress. All cabling in the
rack where the mounting frame is located should be properly supported so that the front
panel does not provide mechanical support.
3.7.1. Analog audio connections
Analog audio inputs are high impedance, balanced and use 3.81mm pitch terminal
block connectors. If another termination resistance is required, a resistor with the
desired termination value can be externally mounted between the + and - terminals.
The analog audio outputs are balanced, use 3.81mm pitch terminal block connectors
and their characteristic impedance is 73Ω.
For analog audio connections two-wire shielded cable is preferred. The GND terminal
allows connection of the cable shield.

4. OPERATION
This section describes the significance of the front panel indicators of the AAD2000C02
module and their remote control and monitoring ability.
4.1. Front panel description
The appearance of the front panel and the elements it contains are shown in the
following illustration.
Front panel of the AAD2000C02
In addition to the connectors previously described in the Interconnection section the
front panel includes the following indicators and controls:
GAIN: Multi-turn potentiometer for adjustment of the distributor's gain over a
range of -20dB to + 20dB.
INPUT LEVEL: Signal activity indicator. This LED can have three different functions:
status indicator, VU meter or peak level meter.
15

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AAD2000C02
4.1.1. Functions of the INPUT LEVEL LED
Status indicator
The LED shines yellow when the signal level is below the silence threshold.
The LED shines red when the signal level is above the overload threshold.
The LED shines green when the signal level is above the silence threshold but has not
exceeded the overload threshold.
The AAD2000C02 uses the peak level meter to update the status LED. The silence
threshold and overload threshold are adjustable between -10 and +25dBu.
The silence detector has a programmable delay and will only indicate silence when
the signal stays below the silence threshold for a period longer than the programmed
delay.
The AAD2000C02 comes preset from the factory using this LED as a status indicator
with the silence and overload thresholds set to -10 and +22dBu, respectively. The
silence detector delay default is 32 seconds.
Level indicator with movement based upon peak level metering
When used for this function the LED will light up when signals between 0 and
+25dBu are present. The color changes with the peak level of the signal, starting with
white at the lowest peak level and changing sequentially to yellow, orange, violet and
red at the highest level.
Level indicator with movement based upon VU metering
When used for this function the LED will light up when signals between -20 and +3
VU are present. The color changes with the level of the signal measured by the VU
meter, starting with green at the lowest peak level and changing sequentially to
yellow, orange and red. If the signal exceeds +3 VU continuously the LED stays red.
The level corresponding to 0 VU can be set to +4 or +8dBu. The factory default is
+4dBu.
Selection of the operating mode for the INPUT LEVEL LED is done via the control
software or via a communications control module located in the same mounting
frame.
4.2. Functional description
The AAD2000C02 module distributes the signal received at the input to four outputs. In
order to augment its capabilities it can access a balanced internal bus that allows one
module to sum signals from several other modules that are installed in adjacent slots in
the same mounting frame.
In order to use the internal bus all modules that will use it must be configured using
program jumpers as detailed in the Installation chapter of this manual.
16

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AAD2000C02
Within a group of AAD2000C02 modules installed in the same mounting frame any
module can pass the signals at the input to the internal bus by selecting this option in
the remote control software. All signals sent to the internal bus are summed and their
levels normalized so that all the summed signals have an equal level. Therefore when
two signals are sent to the internal bus each signal is attenuated by 6dB and if three
signals are sent the attenuation of each is 9.5dB.
In general, for a quantity of N summed signals the attenuation before mixing is equal to
20*log(N) dB.
In order to extract a signal from the internal bus the module includes a selector
activated with the control software for selecting between the input signal on the front
or one of the internal bus signals.
The two main functions of the internal bus are the creation of a monophonic signal and
increasing the number of outputs using multiple modules.
The following figure shows an example configuration using three modules. Two of the
modules distribute a monaural signal (L and R) and send this signal to the internal bus
for summing. The third module take that signal from the internal bus and outputs the
sum (L and R) of the first two modules.
The modules includes one VU meter and one peak level meter for measuring the output
signal level. These two meters are displayed in the remote supervision software and
using the front panel indicator LED, when activated.

4.3. Module remote control and supervision
The AAD2000C02 can optionally be remotely controlled/supervised.
In order to perform remote configuration and supervision of the module an optional
TL2000 family remote communications controller must be installed in the mounting
frame.
The main function of the communications control module is to interface between a
10/100 Ethernet port and the internal bus of the mounting frame. The following
illustration shows the most common control situations: from a computer or control
panel via Ethernet.
Certain communications control modules provide additional, more advanced functions
such as an SNMP agent, logging of status changes of the modules and a Web interface
for remote control, etc.
Software for simple configuration and supervision with a GUI for multiple modules can
be downloaded from the Albalá Ingenieros website.
18

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AAD2000C02
The following functions of the AAD2000C02 can be performed remotely:
- Assign the function of the front panel indicator LED.
- Send the input signal to the internal bus.
- Send the output signals to the internal bus.
- View the levels reported by the VU meter and peak level meter.
- View and adjust the status of the silence and overload detectors.
4.3.1. Details of the AAD2000C02 registers
The AAD2000C02 module provides control and status registers that can be read and
written by means of specific commands described in the communication control
module user manuals.
The parameter information grouped in the CONTROL or RAM sections is stored in
volatile memory. Any modifications to the parameters will be lost when the module
power supply is disconnected unless the "EEPROM Save" button within the software
has been pressed.
The STATUS section parameters are read-only and cannot be modified.
The parameters that can be controlled and supervised remotely for each version of
