DAD2000C01

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual DAD2000C01
1. DESCRIPTION
1.1. The DAD2000C01
The DAD2000C01 is a balanced digital signal distributor with four outputs. The input
and the outputs are transformer isolated. The front panel provides an LED that indicates
the presence of signal.
The distributor is based on a linear amplifier and does not perform any manipulation of
the signal received. Although this module has been designed for distribution of balanced
AES/EBU signals, given the lack of internal processing the DAD2000C01 can distribute
other digital signals transmitted over balanced lines as long as these signals remain
within the level and bandwidth specifications.
The DAD2000C01 is also capable of transferring the signal to another DAD2000C01
module if that module is located in the slot to the right in the same mounting frame via
program jumpers in order to increase the number of outputs. The input signal to the
module is also selectable between the front and rear using program jumpers.
It is possible to monitor the DAD2000C01 status remotely using a communications
controller module installed in the same mounting frame. In addition, certain controller
modules provide SNMP management and the ability to record events in a file including
date and time information for further analysis.
The DAD2000C01 is a TL2000 terminal line module and can be housed in a two rack unit
(2 RU) UR2000 mounting frame.

3. INSTALLATION
THE DAD2000C01 MODULE CONTAINS ELECTRONIC DEVICES SENSITIVE TO
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. Always use antistatic bags clearly identified
with a high degree of shielding for storage and transportation.
3.1. Initial inspection
Verify that the package has been properly handled during transport. After opening the
packaging, check that the DAD2000C01 module is inside.
You must notify your Albalá Ingenieros distributor or dealer of any damage or defects
observed.
Follow the instructions in this manual to install this module in the mounting frame.
3.2. Safety instructions
•This equipment must be connected to a mains outlet with a protective
earth connection. Never use extension cords that do not have protective
earthing connection. The lack of an effective electrical connection between
the ground pin in the mains input connector of the equipment and the
protective earth of the electrical power distribution can cause serious harm.
•All modules of the Albalá Ingenieros TL2000 terminal line can be
hot-plugged or unplugged without suffering any damage or affecting the
processes that are currently taking place in other modules in the same
mounting frame.
•The DAD2000C01 module and the mounting frame should always be
installed, maintained, operated and removed by personnel with sufficient
technical qualifications. The equipment should never be placed in damp
areas, near splashing liquid, or in explosive or corrosive atmospheres.
Neither modules nor mounting frames can be used in applications that
could endanger human life.

3.3. Environmental considerations
This symbol indicates that this equipment must be deposited at a collection
point for proper waste treatment once it has reached the end of its useful
life.
3.4. Power considerations
The numbers of modules that can be installed in a UR2000R0x mounting frame is
limited by the power available from the power supply. The sum of the power
requirements for all the modules installed must not exceed the capability of the power
supply.
The power consumption of the module depends upon the amplitude of the signal being
distributed, which can reach up to 7V peak-to-peak. In order to guarantee proper
operation with any signal amplitude, do not install more than 15 DAD2000C01 modules
in a UR2000 mounting frame with PSU2000C02 power supplies. If however the input
signals deliver signals of 5V peak-to-peak or less then there are no power restrictions.
The maximum power available in a UR2001 mounting frame depends upon the power
supply installed. As long as the supply can deliver 8 W or more there are no power
restrictions and two DAD2000C01 modules can be installed in a UR2001.
3.5. Module configuration
The module includes program jumpers that should be configured before installing the
modules in the mounting frame.
12

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual DAD2000C01
The program jumpers serve to interconnect modules installed in adjacent slots so that
they can function as a single distributor with a greater number of outputs, using the
interconnection lines of the rear bus of the mounting frame.
The DAD2000C01 provides two banks of program jumpers, J3 and J4, in order to operate
as a single distributor with more outputs. J3 is shown on the board's silkscreen as
BACKPLANE_OUT and serves to transfer the signal to the rear bus. J4 is labeled INPUT_SEL
and is used to select the input signal that will be distributed between the rear bus input
and the front panel connector input.
If increasing the number of the module's outputs is not needed when a second
INPUT_SEL is installed to the left in a mounting frame, then J3 should be set in the OFF
position and J4 should be set in the FRONT position.
When the number of outputs will be increased by using another FRONT module in the
slot to the left, J3 should be set in the ON position and J4 should be set in the FRONT
position.
When the number of outputs will be increased by using another FRONT module in the
slot to the right, J3 should be set in the ON position and J4 should be set in the
BACKPLANE position.
3.6. Installing the module in the mounting frame
The following steps should be followed in order to install a DAD2000C01 module in the
mounting frame.
1 - Remove the blank panel covering the front of the empty slot chosen for installing the
DAD2000C01 in the mounting frame.
2 - Insert the DAD2000C01 module into the front of the mounting frame. The edges of
the card slide into two plastic guides inside the mounting frame.
3 - Secure the module to the mounting frame using the two front screws.
After these steps, the module is ready to be connected to other equipment.

3.7. Interconnection
The arrangement of the front panel connectors of the DAD2000C01 module is shown in
the following figure.
Front panel of the DAD2000C01
The DAD2000C01 module provides one input (IN) and four outputs (OUT1 to OUT4).
The front panel has not been designed to support mechanical stress. All cabling in the
rack where the mounting frame is located should be properly supported so that the front
panel does not provide mechanical support.
3.7.1. Digital audio connections
Digital audio inputs are balanced and use 3.81mm pitch terminal block connectors.
Digital audio outputs are balanced, use 3.81mm pitch terminal block connectors and
their characteristic impedance is 110Ω.
For digital audio connections 110Ω characteristic impedance, two-wire shielded cable
is preferred. The GND terminal allows connection of the cable shield.

4.3. Module remote control and supervision
The DAD2000C01 can optionally be remotely controlled/supervised.
In order to perform remote configuration and supervision of the module an optional
TL2000 family remote communications controller must be installed in the mounting
frame.
The main function of the communications control module is to interface between a
10/100 Ethernet port and the internal bus of the mounting frame. The following
illustration shows the most common control situations: from a computer or control
panel via Ethernet.
Certain communications control modules provide additional, more advanced functions
such as an SNMP agent, logging of status changes of the modules and a Web interface
for remote control, etc.
Software for simple configuration and supervision with a GUI for multiple modules can
be downloaded from the Albalá Ingenieros website.
17

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual DAD2000C01
The following functions of the DAD2000C01 can be performed remotely:
-Enabling and disabling of the masks that control the errors displayed on the front
panel of the module.
- Supervision of the status of the signal being distributed by the module.
4.3.1. Details of the DAD2000C01 registers
The DAD2000C01 module provides control and status registers that can be read and
written by means of specific commands described in the communication control
module user manuals.
The parameter information grouped in the CONTROL or RAM sections is stored in
volatile memory. Any modifications to the parameters will be lost when the module
power supply is disconnected unless the "EEPROM Save" button within the software
has been pressed.

5. GLOSSARY
AES/EBU
This acronym covers the combined AES and EBU standard for transmission of digital
audio. The standard defines a serial interface known as AES3 as per AES, EBU 3250-E as
per EBU or ITU-R BS.647-2 as per ITU. The interface originally transmitted two channels
(one pair) with PCM coding with a bit depth of 20 or 24 bit and a sampling frequency
between 32kHz and 192kHz. Today the interface is also used as a framework to
transmit digital signals that may or may not be audio with linear PCM encoding. The
physical interface defined by the original AES/EBU standard was a 110 ohm balanced
line. The AES3-id standard later defined the physical interface as a 75 ohm coaxial cable.
