Installation
Before installation:
• Make sure that the device is in good condition and all the assembly parts are included.
• Check the specication of the products for the installation environment.
• Make sure that the wall or the ceiling is strong enough to withstand 4 times the weight of the
camera.
• To avoid re or shock hazard, use only UL listed power supplies. Verify that the power supply will
provide the rated voltage and wattage for the camera. See the Specications section.
During installation:
• Camera Lens: Handle the camera carefully to prevent scratching or soiling the lens. If the lens or IR
array shield becomes soiled, clean it only with approved products. See the Cleaning section.
• Power supply: Camera drop cable: The camera drop cable includes two connectors:
—Video coax with BNC connector: For transmission of the video signal across a coax (75 Ω)
extension cable to a compatible recorder.
—Power connector: The camera can be powered by 12 Vdc. When applying 12 Vdc power,
observe the power polarity shown on the connector. See the picture to the left for the connector
polarity conguration.
• Ground: A ground cable can be used to ground a junction box. A terminal for an earth ground is
provided inside the box. Always ground the box if it is installed in a moist or humid environment.
Follow local electrical codes for proper grounding.
Step 1. Route interface cables to the camera
Video and power interface cables connect directly to the camera drop cable (see photo above).
The ALI-A6 junction box is compatible with the camera. If using a junction box, connectors between the
camera drop cable and extension cables can be stored within the box,and an earth ground cable can be
used to ground the box and camera.
NOTE
When selecting a mounting location for the camera
• Make sure that there are no reective surfaces near to the camera lens. White light from the camera
may bounce back onto the lens causing reections.
• Determine how wiring is routed into the camera. The cable can be routed through an access hole in the
mounting plate, or through the cable in the mounting base.
The camera includes connectors for the following:
• Video coax (required): The video drop cable can connect to a video coax extension cable from a
Video Recorder or compatible monitor.
• 12 Vdc power input: Refer to the Specications section of this document for voltage and current
requirements. ALWAYS COMPLY WITH THE POLARITY SHOWN IN THE PICTURE ABOVE.
1. Route a video coax extension cable from a compatible video recorder (DVR) to where the camera
will be installed.
2. Route 12 Vdc power extension cables from an adequate power source to the location where the
camera will be installed.
3. If using a junction box, you can attach an earth ground extension cable to the junction box. Route
the cable to the location of the junction box, if needed. Always follow local electrical codes when
using an earth ground.
CAUTION

Do not apply power to the camera at this time. Before applying power to the camera, ensure that
the polarity is correct. An incorrect connection may cause a malfunction and can damage the
camera.
Step 2. Install the camera
The camera can be mounted onto a the ALI-AJ6 junction box, or directly onto a wall or ceiling. The surface
should support at least four times the weight of the camera and junction box (if used). The video / power
drop cable from the camera can be routed either through mounting surface or through a cable channel in
the mounting base.
Installing the camera with a junction box
NOTE: The ALI-AJ1 and ALI-AJ6 junction boxes are very similar.
The ALI-AJ6 junction box is shown below. It can be attached to a wall or ceiling. Video and power
extension cables can be routed in through the opening in the back of the box or through the conduit
coupling, and attached to the camera drop cables inside the box.

What you need
To install the camera, you will need:

Front
To use the junction box:
1. Remove the junction box front plate.
2. Attach the camera mounting base to the junction box using machine screws (may be provided). See
below.

3. Using the box or drill template as a guide, mark and then drill three holes for the screws that will
attach the box to the wall or ceiling. If the extension cables will be routed into the box through the
mounting surface, also drill a hole, if needed, for the extension cables.
4. Attach the box to a wall or ceiling with three screws.
5. Route the video, power and earth ground extension cables into the box. If installing an earth
ground, attach it to the termination on the inside of the box.
6. Connect the
video extension cable to the camera video BNC drop cable connector. If the camera is
in an environment where dust, moisture or other contaminants are present, seal this connection
adequately to prevent contamination.
WARNING
!
Failure of the power or video drop cable connectors due to moisture or another
contaminant is considered an installation error, which voids the warranty. If
installing this camera in a location such as an overhang, shop, garage, kitchen, etc.
where high humidity or dust is present, seal these connections adequately.
7. Connect the 12 Vdc power extension cable to the 12 Vdc connector on the camera drop cable. Seal
the power cable connectors as needed from moisture and other contamination. The polarity of the
drop cable connector is shown below.
8. If the camera is installed in a moist or humid environment, attach an earth ground cable to the
ground terminal on the camera body.
CAUTION
Before applying power to the camera, ensure that the polarity is correct. An incorrect connection
can damage the camera.
9. Apply power to the camera. A video image from the camera should appear in the DVR Live View
display, or in the Live View display of a remote login to the DVR.
10. Continue with "Step 3. Select the video format" on page 3.
Installing the camera onto a wall or ceiling
1. Using the drill template provided, mark the location of the screws that anchor the mounting base to
the mounting surface. If mounting the camera onto a wall where moisture or other contaminants
are present, arrange the template and adjust the camera so that the cable channel is down or away
from the source of the contaminants.
2. If you are routing the drop cable through mounting surface, mark the position of the hole for the
drop cable.
3. Drill holes for the screws that anchor the base to the mounting surface. The mounting hardware
provided is appropriate for most surfaces. However, depending on the surface materials, more
appropriate fasteners may be required.
4. If routing the drop cable through the mounting surface, drill a 5/8” hole in the middle of the drill
template.
5. Connect the
video extension cable to the camera video BNC drop cable connector. If the camera is
in an environment where dust, moisture or other contaminants are present, seal this connection
adequately to prevent contamination.

6. Connect the 12 Vdc power extension cable to the 12 Vdc connector on the camera drop cable. Seal

7. Store or conceal excess extension cable appropriately, and then attach the camera to the ceiling or
wall. Ensure that the Switch Button drop cable remains accessible for changing the video format, if
necessary.

9. Open the DVR Live View screen.

Step 3. Select the video format
You can set the video format of the camera to either TVI, AHD, CVI, or CVBS. The video format currently
selected usually appears in the upper left corner of the Live View screen. The format you select must be
compatible with your DVR or monitoring device. To change the format to another option:
1. Find the tag on the video drop cable for the latest instructions.
2. Unscrew the cap on the button switch. See the drop cable photo on page 1.
3. Press and hold switch button for 5 seconds to change the video format to the next format in the
rotation shown on the tag. Repeat this step until the format you prefer appears on the Live View
screen.
4. Screw the cap back onto the button switch drop cable. Ensure that the cap is tight.
5. If installing the camera onto a junction box, secure the junction box front plate with the camera to
the junction box.
Step 4. Adjust camera pan, tilt and rotation
Adjust the camera pan, tilt and rotation to point the camera at your surveillance target. When pointing the
camera, observe the Live View display on a recorder or remote login.
Camera adjustments
1. Loosen the pan lock nut and the tilt lock screw.

2. While observing video from the camera, point the camera at the center of your surveillance target.
3. Tighten the pan lock nut and tilt lock screw.
4. Rotation adjustment: If necessary, loosen the rotation lock screw, and then rotate the camera
body to produce a good horizontal alignment of the image. The rotation adjustment range is
0° ~ 360°. Tighten the rotation lock screw.
Step 5. Open the OSD menu
The On Screen Display (OSD) provides conguration options for rening the performance of the camera. It
also can be used to block sensitive portions in the eld of view (Privacy).
You can open the OSD menu system from the recorder Live View display.
1. Open the recorder Live View screen, and then click inside the screen where the PTZ camera video
image is displayed. See below.
a. Click the PTZ Control icon in the Quick Setting Toolbar. The PTZ camera Live View window
will expand to full screen and the pop-up window shown below will open.

b. In the PTZ Control panel pop-up window, click the Menu icon on the Conguration line.
c. Drag the PTZ Control window to a position where it doesn’t cover the OSD menu
NOTE The PTZ Control window direction buttons and the Iris + and Iris - keys are used to
navigate the OSD menu and set conguration options in the camera.
• Opening the OSD Menu through remote login to the recorder
To open the OSD menu during a remote login to the recorder:
a. After logging into the recorder, open the camera in a single Live View window.
b. In the PTZ control panel, scroll down the Preset list to Preset95, click the entry to highlight
it, and then click the Call icon. See below. The OSD MAIN MENU screen will open.

OSD Denitions: On-screen Display (OSD) menus
After the camera is connected to a compatible recorder, you can open the OSD menu by clicking the PTZ
Control icon on the Quick Setting Toolbar.
To navigate the OSD menu and select options:
• Click the up / down ( p/ q) direction buttons to select the menu item.
• Click the left / right ( t/ u) direction buttons to adjust the value of the selected item.
• Click the Iris+ key to conrm a selection.
VIDEO FORMAT
You can set the video format to 5MP @ 20 fps, 4MP @ 30 fps, 4MP @ 25 fps, 2MP @ 30 fps or 2MP @ 25
fps.
EXPOSURE
EXPOSURE MODE: You can set the EXPOSURE MODE to GLOBAL, BLC, HLC, WDR, or HLS.
GLOBAL: Global refers to the normal exposure mode which adjusts lighting distribution, variations, and
non-standard processing.
BLC (Backlight Compensation): BLC compensates light to the object in the front to make it clear, but this
may cause the over-exposure of the background where the light is strong.
HLC (Highlight Compensation): HLC stands for highlight compensation. The camera detects the strong
spots (the over-exposure portion of image), then reduce the brightness of the strong spots to improve the
overall images.
WDR (Wide Dynamic Range): The WDR function helps the camera provide clear images even under back
light circumstances. When there are both very bright and very dark areas simultaneously in the eld of
view, WDR balances the brightness level of the whole image and provide clear images with details.
HLS (Highlight Suppression): It is the same visual eect as the solar eclipse. If the brightness of a part in the
image exceeds the threshold, this part will become black. Then whole image can be clear.
AGC (Auto Gain Control): Optimizes the clarity of the image in poor light conditions. The AGC level can be
set to HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW. Note: The noise is amplied when the AGC level is increased.
SLOW SHUTTER: Slow Shutter increases the exposure time on a single frame, which makes a camera more
sensitive to the light so it can produce images even in low lux conditions.
ANTI-BANDING: Anti-banding is a camera setting that prevents the appearance of horizontal lines
(banding) when photographing images in the low frequency light and high brightness environments.
VIDEO SETTINGS
Move the cursor to VIDEO SETTINGS and click Iris+ to enter the submenu. IMAGE MODE, WHITE BALANCE,
BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST, SHARPNESS, SATURATION, 3 DNR, and MIRROR are adjustable.
IMAGE MODE: Image Mode is used to adjust the image saturation. You can set it to STD (Standard) or
HIGH-SAT (High Saturation).
WHITE BALANCE: White balance, the white rendition function of the camera, adjusts the color temperature
according to the environment. It can remove unrealistic color casts in the image. You can set WHITE
BALANCE mode to AUTO or MANUAL.
• AUTO: Under AUTO mode, white balance is being adjusted automatically according to the color
temperature of the scene illumination.
• MANUAL: You can set the R-GAIN / B-GAIN value to adjust the shades of red / blue color of the
image.

BRIGHTNESS: Brightness refers to the brightness of the image. You can set the brightness value from 1
(dark) to 9 (bright) image.
CONTRAST: This feature enhances the dierence in color and light between parts of an image.
SHARPNESS: Sharpness determines the amount of detail an imaging system can reproduce.
SATURATION: Saturation is the proportion of pure chromatic color in the total color sensation. Adjust this
feature to change the saturation of the color.
3 DNR (3D DNR): 3 DNR refers to 3D digital noise reduction. Comparing with the general 2D digital noise
reduction, the 3D digital noise reduction function processes the noise between two frames besides
processing the noise in one frame. The noise will be much less and the video will be clearer.
MIRROR: This feature is used to reect the image. MIRROR can be set to OFF, H, V, and HV.
OFF: The mirror function is disabled.
H: The image ips 180° horizontally.
V: The image ips 180° vertically.
HV: The image ips 180° both horizontally and vertically.
SMART LIGHT
AUTO: In Auto mode, the white light turns on automatically as the environmental illumination
becomes dim.
THRESHOLD controls the sensitivity of the white light with the value ranging from 1 to 3. The
greater the value is, the more sensitive the white light is.
LEVEL controls the brightness of the white light. Values ranging from 1 to 5 (brightest).
OFF: O is the default mode.
FUNCTIONS
MOTION DET: Motion Detection refers to motion sensed in the image. You can detect motion in any part of
a camera's eld of view (FOV) by setting it to full screen or conguring a up to four zones (areas) in the FOV
to sense for motion in.
PRIVACY: The privacy feature allows you to block or mask congurable areas of a eld of view to prevent
this parts from being recorded. You can turn privacy on or o.
FACTORY DEFAULT
Click Iris+ to enter the submenu, and click OK to reset all the settings to the factory default. Click Cancel
to return to the menu without resetting the camera.
EXIT
Move the cursor to EXIT and click Iris+ to exit the menu without saving.
SAVE & EXIT
Move the cursor to SAVE & EXIT, and click Iris+ to save the settings and exit the menu. If new settings are
not saved, they remain in eect only until the camera is powered o or reset.

Cleaning
Clean the camera dome with an approved glass cleaning solution and a lint free cloth.
• Dust can be removed from the unit by wiping it with a soft damp cloth. To remove stains, gently rub
the surface with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution, then rinse and dry it with a
soft cloth.
• Remove all foreign particles, such as plastic or rubber materials, attached to the camera housing.
These may cause damage to the surface over time.
CAUTION
Do not use benzene, thinner or other chemical products on the camera assembly; these may
dissolve the paint and promote damage of the surfaces. Before using any chemical product,
carefully follow the accompanying instructions.

Troubleshooting
Problem Possible Cause
Nothing appears on the screen - Check the power connection.
- Check the video signal cable connection to the monitor.
- Check camera settings to verify the video resolution mode of the
camera and recorder match
The video image is dim or not clear. - If the camera lens is dirty, clean it with a soft, clean cloth.
- Adjust the monitor controls, if necessary.
- If the camera is facing a very strong light, change the camera position.
- Adjust the lens focus.
The screen is dark. - Adjust the contrast control of the monitor.
- If you have an intermediate device, set the impedance (75 Ω / Hi-Z)
properly, and check the cable connections.
The camera is not working properly and
the surface of the camera is hot.
- Verify that the camera is correctly connected to an appropriate regulated
power source.
The image on the monitor ickers - Make sure that the camera isn’t facing direct sunlight or uorescent light.
If necessary,change the camera position.
