1. Read all instructions before using the dryer.
2. RefertotheGROUNDINGINSTRUCTIONSin
the INSTALLATION manual for the proper
grounding of the dryer.
3. Do not dry articles that have been previously
cleaned in,soakedin, washed in,or spottedwith
gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, other
flammable or explosive substances as they give
off vapors that could ignite or explode.
4. Do not allow children to play on or in the dryer.
Close supervision of children is necessary when
the dryer is used near children. This is a safety
rule for all appliances.
5. Before the dryer is removed from service or
discarded, remove the door to the drying
compartment.
6. Do not reach into the dryer if the cylinder is
revolving.
7. Do not install or store the dryer where it will be
exposed to the water and/or weather.
8. Do not tamper with the controls.
9. Donotrepairorreplaceanypartofthedryer,or
attempt any servicing unless specifically
recommended in the User-Maintenance
Instructions or in published user-repair
instructions that you understand and have the
skills to carry out.
10. Do not use fabric softeners or products to
eliminate static unless recommended by the
manufacturer of the fabric softener or product.
11. To reducetheriskoffire,DO NOT DRYplastics
or articles containing foam rubber or similarly
textured rubberlike materials.
12. Always clean the lint filter after every load. A
layer of lint in the filter reduces drying
efficiency and prolongs drying time.
13. Keep area around the exhaust opening and
adjacent surrounding area free from the
accumulation of lint, dust and dirt.
14. The interior of the dryer and the exhaust duct
should be cleaned periodically by qualified
service personnel.
15. Dryer will not operate with the loading door
open. DO NOT by-pass the door safety switch
by permitting the dryer tooperate with the door
open. The dryer will stop tumbling when the
door is opened. Do not use the dryer if it does
not stop tumbling when the door is opened or
starts tumbling without pressing or turning the
START mechanism.Removethe dryer from use
and call the service person.
16. Do not put articles soiled with vegetable or
cooking oil in the dryer, as these oils may not be
removed during washing. Due to the remaining
oil, the fabric may catch on fire by itself.
17. To reduce the risk of fire, DO NOT put clothes
which have traces of any flammable substances
such as machine oil, flammable chemicals,
thinner, etc. or anything containing wax or
chemicals such as in mops and cleaning cloths,
or anything dry-cleaned at home with dry-
cleaning solvent in the dryer.
18. Use the dryer only for its intended purpose,
drying clothes.
19. Always disconnect the electrical power to the
dryer before attempting service. Disconnect the
power cord by grasping the plug, not the cord.
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock,
serious injury or death to persons when
using your dryer, follow these basic
precautions:

20. Replace worn power cords and/or loose plugs.
21. Install this dryer according to the
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. All
connections for electrical power and grounding
must comply with local codes and be made by
licensed personnel when required. Do not do it
yourself unless you know how!
22. Remove laundry immediately after the dryer
stops.
23. Always read and follow manufacturer’s
instructions on packages of laundry and
cleaning aids.Heed allwarnings or precautions.
To reduce the risk of poisoning or chemical
burns, keep them out of reach of children at all
times (preferably in a locked cabinet).
24. Do nottumble fiberglass curtains and draperies
unless the label says it can be done. If theyare
dried,wipe outthecylinderwithadampclothto
remove particles of fiberglass.
25. ALWAYS follow the fabric care instructions
supplied by the garment manufacturer.
26. Never operate the dryerwith any guardsand/or
panels removed.
27. DO NOT operate the dryer with missing or
broken parts.
28. DO NOT by-pass any safety devices.
29. Failure to install, maintain, and/or operate this
machine according to the manufacturer’s
instructions may result in conditions which can
produce bodily injury and/or property damage.

Before using dryer for the first time, use an all-purpose
cleaner, or a detergent and water solution, and a damp
cloth to remove shipping dust from inside dryer drum.

connect the dryer to an electrical power source.

Close the loading door and start the dryer in a heat
setting (refer to the Operating Instructions). After the
dryer has operated for three minutes, the exhaust air or
exhaust pipe should be warm.

This dryer isdesigned to beoperatedon a twowire plus
grounded (earth) wire, 240 Volt, 60 Hertz, single phase
supply circuit. Itis designed tobe fused at30 Amperes.
Consult nameplate for model and electrical ratings.
NOTE: Branch circuit wire size requirements to
laundry room dryer outlet.
Use U.L. (Underwriters Laboratories) listed wire.
Allow sufficient slack in wiring so dryer can be moved
from its normal location when necessary.
1. Remove the screw and terminal block access cover
from the rear of dryer cabinet.
2. Insert ends of direct wire through power supply
hole (containing proper strain relief) in rear of
dryer cabinet. Connect the power cord, or direct
wiring,to thetwoouterterminalblockterminals
using the two wire-binding (10 - 32 x 3/8") screws
from the accessories pack in the envelope shipped
inside the dryer cylinder.
3. Attach ground (earth) wire to rear bulkhead as
shown.
IMPORTANT: Use only a U.L. listed No. 10
(copper wire only) two conductor power supply
cord kit rated 240 Volts (minimum) 30 Amperes for
electric dryers, and labeled as suitable for use in a
clothes dryer.
4. Tighten these wire-binding screws firmly.
IMPORTANT: Failure to tighten these screws
firmly may result in wire failure at the terminal
block.
5. Secure the strain relief to the power cord, or wires,
where they enter the dryer cabinet.
6. Reinstall access cover and screw.

control hood. Grounding Instructions
This dryer must be connected to a grounded metal,
permanent wiring system; or an equipment-grounding
conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and
connectedto the equipment-grounding terminal or lead
on the dryer.
1. Remove access cover from rear of dryer.
2. Use a strain relief and insert end of power cord
through power supply hole.
3. Use the three screws from the envelope located in
the cylinder to attach the power cord wires to the
terminal block.
4. Tighten all screws and reinstall access cover
removed in Step 1.
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock,
serious injury or death, all wiring and
grounding MUST conform with the latest
edition of the National Electrical Code,
ANSI/NFPA 70, or the Canadian Electrical
Code, CSA C22.1, and such local

Select a location with a solid floor.
No other fuel burning appliance should be installed in
the same closet with the dryer.
The dryer must not be installed or stored in an area
where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.
The dryer needs sufficient clearance and an adequate
air supply for proper operation and ventilation, and for
easier installation and servicing. (Minimum clearances
are shown below.)

Never install flexible duct in concealed spaces, such as
a wall or ceiling.
Exhaust System Materials
Exhaust duct must be 10.2 cm(4") in diameter having
no obstructions. Rigid metal duct is recommended.
Non-combustible semi-rigid flexible metal duct is
acceptable. Do not use plastic pipe or flexible plastic
pipe, because it contributes to poordrying performance
and collects lint, which can lead to a fire hazard.
DO NOT use sheet metal screws on exhaust pipe joints
or other fastening means which extend into the duct
that could catch lint and reduce the efficiency of the
exhaust system. Secure all joints with duct tape. Use as
few elbows as possible.
Make-Up Air Requirements
For proper operation it is important that you locate the
dryer in an area that has an ample amount of make-up
air to replace the amount exhausted by the dryer.
Energy efficient homes with low air infiltration rates
should be equipped with an air exchanger that can
accommodate on demand make-up air needs in the
home. These devices can be obtained through your
building contractor or building material suppliers.

Exhaust System
IMPORTANT: Keep exhaust duct as short as
possible.
NOTE: Be certain old ducts are cleaned before
installing your new dryer.
Forbestdryingresults,recommended maximumlength
of exhaust system is shown below.
To prevent backdraft when dryer is not in operation,
outer end of exhaust pipe must have a weather hood
with hinged dampers (obtain locally).
NOTE: Weather hood should be installed at least
30.5 cm (12") above the ground.
Exhaust Direction
The dryer can be exhausted to the outdoors through the
back, left, right or bottom of the dryer.
Dryer is shipped from factory ready for rear exhaust;
no kits required.
Exhausting the dryer through sides or bottom can be
accomplished by installing a DK1 Sales Accessory
(Directional Exhaust Kit 528P3) available as optional
equipment at extra cost.

Exhausting the dryer in hard-to-reach locations can be
accomplished by installing the 521P3 Flexible Metal
Vent Kit, available as optional equipment at extra cost.
The kit comes in two halves that can be separately
attached to the dryer and walloutlet. Once attached, the
dryer can be slid back into position and the two halves
can be connected from the front.
Dryer Airflow
Efficient dryer operation requires proper dryer airflow.
Proper dryer airflowcan be evaluated by measuring the
static pressure. See chart below.
NOTE: This can be measured with a manometer
placed on the exhaust duct approximately two feet
(61 cm) from the dryer. See illustration below.
Reduced Clearance Elbow
Installing the dryer in shallow closets can be
accomplished by using an Elbow, Part No. 62688,
which is one inch narrower than a standard venting
elbow.

Energy Saving Tips
• Make sure the lint filter is always clean.
• Do not overload the dryer.
• Do not overdry items.
• Remove items to be ironed while still damp.
• Use the correct cycle for the type of fabric being
dried.
• Do not open the door during the drying cycle.
• Plan to do your laundry on low humidity days; your
clothes will dry faster.
• Dry multiple loads of clothes one right after another
so dryer interior does not have to be reheated for
each load.
Helps and Hints
• The necessary suggestions and directions for
installation and proper exhausting are given in
the beginning of this manual.
• Static electricity may cause garments of synthetic
fibers (as in lingerie) to cling together, especially if
they are overdried. The use of a fabric softener will
soften clothes and reduce static electricity.
• Do not wash or dry clothes that shed lint in the same
load with permanent press or knit garments.
• Remove permanent press loads immediately after
dryer stops.
• Follow the care labels on FLAME RETARDANT,
SCOTCH-GUARD™, etc., garments for the proper
washing and drying.
• If loads should be damp for ironing, turn timer knob
to the ENERGY SAVER setting, marked with a dot
(•), in Automatic or Time Dry cycles.
Load
Do not overload your dryer. Bulk, not weight,
determines the load size. There should be space in the
dryer for the clothes to tumble freely. Large and small
pieces together make up loads which will tumble well.
Permanent press loads should be smaller to provide
room for tumbling. The following illustrations show
the ideal load sizes for fabrics.

NOTE: Use the automatic cycle for drying items
thatcanbedriedwithheat.Thiscycleautomatically
drys loads to the dryness level selected.
MORE DRY will dry very small loads and some heavy
items, such as blue jeans, but will overdry lightweight
items, such as sheets and shirts. Overdrying can cause
wrinkling,shrinking,excessivelintconditions,andwill
use more energy than necessary.
LESS DRY, which uses the least energy, will dry large
loads and lightweight items, such as sheets and shirts,
but might leave other items, such as denim and heavy
bath towels, more damp.
To increase energy savings and to make sure loads are
dried without overdrying, set your loads on LESS DRY.
If items are damp at the end of a cycle, the timer knob
needstobesetcloserto the MORE DRY settingthe next
time these loads are dried. If items are overdry at the
end of a cycle, the timer knob should be set closer to
COOL DOWN when these loads are dried again.
Remember the settings that work best to get ideal
drying results.
The COOL DOWN period at the end of each cycle
provides items a chance to tumble with no heat and
cool down to room temperature. This prevents wrinkles
from setting if items cannot be cared for immediately.
The ENERGY SAVER/DAMP DRY settings, marked
with a dot (•), show which settings will use the least
energy and will leave items damp for easier ironing.
NOTE: The timer knob will not advance as quickly
in the AUTOMATIC cycles as it does in the TIME
DRY cycle. The time it takes for the timer to
advance depends on the type and size of the load
being dried.
Automatic Regular/Delicate Cycle
Use for sturdy items like play or work clothes and also
for delicate items. The type of heat is determined by
choosing the proper Fabric Selector option. There are
two settings in the AUTOMATIC REGULAR/
DELICATE cycle — MORE DRY and LESS DRY.
Time Dry Cycle
This cycle will operate dryer for up to 75 minutes.
Cottons and heavyweight items dry best between 50
and75 minutes,andlightweightitems drybestbetween
20 and 40 minutes.
Automatic Permanent Press/Knits
Cycle
Use for permanentpress items and synthetics. The type
of heat is determined by selecting the proper Fabric
Selector option. There are two settings in the
AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS/KNITS cycle
—MORE DRY and LESS DRY.

INSTRUCTIONS before using dryer.
NOTE: This appliance is designed for repeated
normal operation according to operating
instructions.
1. Sort items into separate loads.
2. Clean lint filter before each use.
3. Add clothes loosely into dryer drum. Add fabric
softener sheet, if desired.
4. Closeloading door. Dryer will not operate with the
door open.
5. Select FABRIC SELECTOR. Follow garment
manufacturer’s care labels for recommended
temperature settings.
6. Selecttimersettingincycledesired:AUTOMATIC
REGULAR/DELICATE, TIME DRY, and
AUTOMATIC PERMANENT PRESS/KNITS.
These cycles control the drying time.
The ENERGY SAVER/DAMP DRY settings, marked
with a dot (•), show which dryer settings will use the
least energy and will leave items damp for easier
ironing.
7. Push timer knob in to start dryer.
NOTE: To stop dryer at any time, open the door or
turn timer knob to an OFF position. To restart
dryer, close door, reset timer ifnecessary, and push
in the timer knob.
End of Cycle Signal
(Not available on all models)
The volume of the signal tone may be set on OFF,
LOUD or between the two selections. If a volume level
is selected, the signal will let you know when the cycle
is done. The signal will stop when the door is opened,
or when the timer is advanced to an OFF position.
Optional Equipment
A drying rack, Part No. DR-3, is available as optional
equipment at extra cost. The rack can be used for no-
tumble drying of articles, such as tennis shoes,
sweaters, stuffed toys or other delicate items.
