Installation Guide
General
The Sav-Wire 2 base, part no 45681-206AMP, is a mounting base for Series 65 smoke and heat
detectors and may be used only in association with a Sav-Wire-compatible fi re control panel. The
use of any other control panel will render the fi re detection system inoperable.
Detectors, call points and sounders are connected to the control panel by one pair of wires. In the
event of an alarm, polarity is reversed in order to activate the sounders without affecting the status of
the detectors.
Sav-Wire 2 bases incorporate a circuit which detects the removal of a detector head. If a detector is
removed from the base the control panel will give a fault signal.
Installation and Wiring
The base is installed in exactly the same way as a standard base. Shielded cables should be used.
Install in accordance with BS5839 Part 1.
It is essential to observe polarity when wiring a Sav-Wire 2 base. See wiring diagram overleaf.

Locking the detector
The detector head should be locked into the base, particularly if it is installed at a height less than
3m above the fl oor level. The reason for locking is to deny unauthorised persons access to the base
terminals in order to prevent base malfunction.
Lock the detector with a hexagonal driver.
Commissioning and Maintenance
Fit all detector heads before switching on power. Commission in accordance with BS5839 Part 1.
Routine maintenance should be carried out to BS5839 Part 1.
