Safety Instructions
Read all these instructions carefully and thoroughly, save them for later reference. The
unauthorized operation would lead to printer malfunction or accident. Manufacturers
have no responsibilities for the problems which are led by unauthorized operations.
❖Follow all warnings and instructions in the manual as well as marked on the product.
❖Do not touch the print head if the printer has just been recently used as the print head
may be hot.
❖Do not put your fingers under the left or right tractor sprockets when installing the tractor
paper.
❖Unplug this product from the power outlet before cleaning. Do not use chemicals like
alcohol to clean the printer. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
❖Please don’t use the printer near water.
❖Slots and openings on the printer (the back, sides or bottom) are provided for ventilation.
To ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, do not
block or cover these openings. Do not place the printer on a bed, sofa, rug or other
similar surfaces in case of blocking the openings. This product should not be placed in a
crowded environment unless proper ventilation is provided.
❖Make sure the printer is put on a stable surface and the surrounding is wide enough for
the paper to load and eject.
❖Avoid using the same AC socket with other high-power electric appliances or the electric
appliance device which will easily cause voltage fluctuation.
❖The whole computer system should be far away from the device. This may easily cause
electromagnetic interference, for example, loudspeaker or wireless component.
❖Do not locate this product where the cord will be stepped on. When the cord or the plug is
mangled, please stop using and get a new one replaced. Make sure to dispose of the
broken cord.
❖Do not operate in locations where high humidity or dust levels are present. You should
avoid placing in direct sunlight and in high temperature or greasy areas.
❖To avoid electric shock, short circuit or printer malfunctions, please do not insert any
objects of any kind in the printer’s air vents.
❖Don’t remove the printer’s outer cover and repair the printer. When needed, call or take it
to a professional.
❖To ensure safety, please unplug this product prior to leaving it unused for an extended
period. The wall outlet that you plan to connect to should be nearby and unobstructed.
❖This product is an impact printer; it produces obvious noise during printing, so we suggest
placing this printer in a relatively independent area.
❖When using the printer in a room where ventilation is not good, it is suggested to keep the
room between 41o ~ 95o F
❖Unplug this product from the power outlet and leave servicing to qualified service
personnel under the following conditions:
A. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
B. If liquid has been spilled into the product.
C.If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
D.If the product does not operate normally when the operating instructions are followed.
E. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
F. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance, it indicates a need for
service.

Packaging
Unpacking the printer
Check the following items in the package, if of these items are missing, please
contact your dealer. (As shown below)
Removing protective material
1. Open the shipping carton, unpack the printer and remove the tape from
around the front cover as shown. Save all the original packing materials,
so that they can be reused when transporting the printer.

Installation
Installing and removing paper support tray
1. Insert the tray gently into the slot at the front of the printer, then push it
forward until it is locked in place. Position the paper guide to zero on tray
scale for proper form alignment.
2. To remove the Paper Support tray, hold the left and right ends of the tray
with both hands; pull it towards you and lift.
Note: When transporting the printer remove the paper support.
Installing the paper feed knob
1. Align the D-shape opening of the paper feed knob with D-shaped metal
shaft. Slide the plastic knob onto the metal shaft (as shown below).

Installing the ribbon cartridge
1. Remove ribbon cartridge from the plastic bag. Detach blue ribbon shield
form cartridge.
2. Make sure the power switch is OFF. Open the front cover. Move the
printhead to the center of the printer. Refer to the “Ribbon Clamp
Installation”label located inside the printer for proper positioning.
3. Adjust the GAP LEVER to the “Ribbon Replace”highest position.
4. With the ribbon cartridge in hand (the side with the knob faces the user),
turn the ribbon knob according to the arrow direction, so that the ribbon
slack is removed.
5. To avoid damage, keep fingers away from print head cable harness
located behind ribbon cartridge.
6. Position of the ribbon cartridge inside the printer chassis; make the
cartridge buckles on both sides aim at the slots of the printer, push it
forward until it is locked in place.
7. Carefully slide the plastic RIBBON SHIELD onto the left and right carrier
pins. Verify the shield is seated against the printhead carrier.
8. Rotate the RIBBON FEED KNOB in the direction of the arrow to remove
fabric slack.
CAUTION
Power OFF the printer. Do not touch the
printhead immediately after printing because
it may be too hot.

9. Move the printhead several times to make sure the ribbon is installed
and functioning properly.
10. After installing the ribbon cartridge, reposition the gap lever to the proper
form thickness, and close the printer cover.
Connecting the printer to the power source
1. Make sure that the power switch located on the left/front side of the
printer is set to OFF. Press the “O” side of the power switch.
2. Plug one end of the provided AC power cord into the printer’s power
supply inlet.
3. Make sure the voltage required by the printer matches that of your
electrical outlet. Refer to the voltage designated on the rating label
located on the back of the printer.
4. Connect the other end of the AC power cord into a properly grounded
electrical outlet.
5. To turn the printer ON, press the “I”side of the power switch.

Note:When the print becomes faint, you need to replace the ribbon cartridge.
Otherwise, the print quality would be affected, and the printhead may
be damaged.

Connecting the printer to the PC
The Documax 6390 printer supports USB, Ethernet, or Parallel
interfaces. Interface cable connections are as follows:
1. Install desired interface connection. Make sure that the power switch is
turned to OFF and connect the appropriate cable(s) to the printer and
the computer.
❖Plug the USB cable A end (flat shape) into the computer's USB interface.
❖Plug the USB cable B end (square shape) into the printer's USB interface.

❖Plug one end of the RJ-45 cable into the Ethernet port of the printer and the
other into the LAN.
❖Use NetFinder utility to identify IP address and help complete interface
connection.

The interface has a built-in feature that
will automatically receive transmitted data
on any of the active ports.
PARALLEL CABLE CONNECTION
❖Turn OFF both the computer and the printer. Plug the parallel cable securely into
the printer's parallel interface. Squeeze the wire clips together until they lock in
place on either side.

Loading Paper
Paper thickness adjustment
1. Adjust the print gap lever inside the printer on the front right side to feed
thicker paper and forms. The lever moves the printhead relative to the
platen so that there is more room for the paper.
Loading cut-sheet paper/forms
1. Set the paper select lever located on the front right side of the printer to
Cut-sheet (up position).

2. Position the paper guide to the zero marking on the paper support tray
scale. Pull tray extension out for long paper/forms requiring extra
support.
3. Insert the paper as shown below, the paper is fed into the printer
automatically.

Loading tractor paper
1. Set paper thickness lever, refer to “Loading Paper” section.
2. Set the paper select lever located on the front right side of the printer to
Tractor Paper (down position).
3. Loosen the left and right tractors by lifting up on lock levers. Adjust the
left tractor to the home position (“0” denotes home). Adjust right tractor
to approximate paper width. Ensure the paper is flat and lock left and
right tractor into place by pressing down on the lock lever.

4. When feeding paper under continuous paper mode, the printer tractor
will feed continuous paper from back to front.
Adjust paper tear off
At the completion of a print job, the printer will feed the tractor paper to the
tear off position automatically. Paper can be torn off along the window edge. If
necessary, the paper perforation can be adjusted with the window edge
utilizing the following procedure.
ADJUSTMENT ~
1. After installing the tractor paper correctly and ensuring the paper select
lever is in tractor paper position. Power ON the printer.
Press the OFFLINE key then press the LOAD/EJECT key to bring paper
to print position. Press the OFFLINE key then press the TEAR PAPER
key to bring continuous paper to tear position.
Now press the OFFLINE key, and then press and hold LOAD/EJECT
and LF/FF for 3 seconds, the printer’s Online LED blinks, which means
the printer is in Tear Position Adjustment mode.

2. After entering the tear position adjustment mode, press LF/FF and
LOAD/EJECT keys to change the tear position (the maximum movable
value is based on the factory setting zero position):
❖“LOAD/EJECT” Press one time, go forward 1/60-inch, max. is
15/60 inch.
❖“LF/FF” Press one time, go backward 1/60-inch, min. is 0/60 inch.
3. To exit and save your new setting, press ONLINE key, the Online LED
and will blink twice and the printer makes 2 beeps. The Power LED is
ON. The printer saves the new setting and exits the adjustment mode.

Top of form (control panel setting)
The top of form setting determines the margin between the top of paper and
the first printed line (the top margin). The top of the first printed line is the
zero position.
TOF ADJUSTMENT ~
1. Load paper. When the printer is in online mode, press LF/FF key for 3
seconds, the printer’s Online LED blinks, which means the printer is in
TOF adjustment mode.
❖Press “LOAD/EJECT” key one time, moves paper forward 1/60
inch.
❖Press “LF/FF” key one time moves paper reverse 1/60 inch.
After adjustment, press ONLINE key, the Online LED blinks twice and
the printer makes 2 beeps. The Online LED is ON. The printer saves the
new setting and exits TOP adjustment mode.
TOF position can be viewed or adjusted using the print driver
"Printer settings". Select "Tof Cut Sheets", or “Tof Continuous", or “Tof
Dark Form”to view current setting. Select new setting or “Default",
and then click "Set" to save new setting. Advancing the paper is a
positive value, reversing the paper is a negative value. Refer to Printer
Settings via Driver section of the manual for procedure details.

Print Driver Installation
Win8 &10 driver install
1. Open the driver folder on the CD shipped with the printer. Then open the
subfolder for your version of Windows.
2. Click on the “Setup.exe” file to begin the installation utility. Have your
printer ready to connect when instructed.
3. Click on the “Documax 6390”icon to select the driver.
4. Click on the “Install” key to begin the driver installation. When prompted
connect the interface cable and power ON the printer. Installation may
take 2~3 minutes, ignore “Not Responding” message. Installing the
printer without a proper interface will result in a “LPT1” port default.

Note: should this pop-up Window appear, choose “This program
installed correctly” and continue with next step.
5. Once the Driver install is complete, close the printer installation utility.
6. Open the “Devices and Printers”window from the PC Start key.
7. Right-click on the Documax 6390 icon and select “Printer
Properties”.
8. Choose the “Ports”tab and select the correct interface port for your
printer. For Ethernet port IP recognition, run “NetFinder” utility on CD.
9. End of procedure.

Printer settings via driver
1. Open the “Devices and Printers”window from the PC Start key.
2. Right-click on the Documax 6390 icon and select “Printer
Properties”.
3. Choose the “Ports”tab and verify or select the preferred interface port
for your printer.
4. Click on “Printer settings”.
5. Select and click on the printer setting icon you would like to adjust. A
pop-up window will display feature choice and an explanation.
6. In the parameter setting window, there are parameter options, item
explanation and control buttons. After selecting the corresponding
parameter(s), click “Set”, the printer will change the setting at the
moment it receives the change command. Click “Cancel” to return to the
upper window. Click “Default” to show the default setting of this item.
