ALFT10S-150
Thank you for purchasing this Low Frequency Transducer (sub-woofer). We hope that you derive many years of istening p easure from it.
This mode is one of a range of Low Frequency Transducers designed and bui t to provide troub e free performance and can reproduce
powerfu and contro ed ow frequency information to supp ement the performance of any domestic audio system.

Human hearing is not sensitive to the exact origin of ow frequency information so the p acement of the Low Frequency Transducer is not so critica .
It’s advanced design disperses the sound even y throughout the istening area. Locating the Low Frequency Transducer near a wa wi increase the
bass response of the oudspeaker, however, the sound waves coming from Low Frequency Transducer are ong and need space to propagate. If
p aced too c ose the istener, the sound wi not be as fu as if it was a itt e further away. The adjustments possib e on the unit wi a ow it’s performance
To be modified to suit the particu ar circumstances of your istening environment. The output eve is best set when istening to a of the oudspeakers.
It cannot easi y be set in iso ation. Keep the Low Frequency Transducer away from radiators or other heat sources and at east 50cm from te evision.

The Low Frequency Transducer may be connected to your system in severa different ways depending on what other types of oudspeakers you are using
what output options offered by your amp ifier.
L i n e I n
These RCA Phono Sockets can accept the variab e ine output from a pre-amp, receiver or a surround sound decoder being contro ed by a pre-amp or
receiver. They shou d not be connected to a tape recorder output as that signa is genera y of fixed eve and can not be adjusted by the vo ume contro
of the amp ifier from which it comes. Some units feature a signa variab e Low Leve Transducer output which shou d be connected to Low Frequency
Transducer via a “ Y” connector so that both LINE inputs are driven.
H i L e v e In
These inputs are designed to accept an amp ified signa from the oudspeaker outputs of an integrated amp ifier, receiver or power amp ifier.
Note: Ensure that you never use the Low Frequency Transducer with connections made to the LINE IN and HI LEVEL IN termina s simu taneous y.
Hi L e v e O u t
The origina amp ified signa connected the HI Leve inputs is present at these outputs minus the frequencies being used the Low Frequency Transducer.
These may be connected to the existing eft and right oudspeakers. If your main oudspeakers are sma , the overa power hand ing of the system wi be
significant y increased if they are connected not to the outputs of your integrated amp ifier, receiver or power amp ifier but to the Hi Leve outputs of the
Low Frequency Transducer. These outputs fi ter out ow frequency information being hand ed by the Low Frequency Transducer sending on y the upper
bass, mid0range and high frequency signa s to the main oudspeakers which makes their task easier and which a ows for higher sound pressure eve s
to be achieved. This wi enhance the impact of high qua ity music and audio-visua source materia .

The power switch is provided on the pane for switching the amp ifier ON and OFF.
P h a s e
The norma setting for the Phase Switch is in the 0° position. Because the Low Frequency Transducer is remote from the other oudspeakers,
it’s output may reach the istening position at a s ight y different time the sound from the other oudspeakers and be out of phase. In this case
the bass can sound rather “ho ow” and the eve contro wi have itt e effect. Setting the PHASE switch to 180 degree wi compensate for this.
The LEVEL contro a ows the output of the Low Frequency Transducer to be ba anced with the output of the other oudspeakers in your system.
Once this contro is set, it shou d not require further adjustment. Start with the LEVEL contro at a minimum and with a the other oudspeakers
P aying gradua y increase the output of the Low Frequency Transducer to the appropriate eve . Again, you shou d a ways return to your istening
position to eva uate the resu t. It may take severa adjustments on severa different recordings to achieve the required ba ance.

The CROSSOVER FREQUENCY contro a ows for the adjustment of the point at which the Low Frequency Transducer output begins to ro off
And the main oudspeakers undertake more of the overa duties. Larger main oudspeakers a ow for a ower crossover whi e sma sate ite
Loudspeakers require the Low Frequency Transducer to contribute across a broader ow frequency range.
Again, experimenting wi soon yie d the best resu ts
