REMOVAL
1. MachineisOFF;headisattophomeposition(preferred)
2. Removeanynozzlesand/orvacuumcupsfromheaterhead/vacuumtube
3. Remove6xrearscrewsheadfacecover;disconnectLED2‐pinwireharnessandremovecover
4. Asshown,manuallyholdaircylinderleverindownpositiontoallowmovementofthevacuumtube
5. Placefingeratbottomofvacuumtubeandgentlyliftupwardtotopmost‘up’position
6. Releaseaircylinderlevertolocktubeinupposition(thiswillhelp‘protect’thetubewhenremovingheaterhead)

7. Insidehead,locateanddisconnectlargewhite3‐pinpowerconnectorand4‐pinsmallRTDconnectorforAPR‐HHA
heaterhead
8. Locateandremove3xspring‐loadedAPR‐HHAheadmountingscrewsfrombottomholesasshown(3/32”allen
key);aslastscrewremovedholdtheHHAandcarefullyallowittodropto‘rest’position;itwillbeheldinplaceby
the2xairflowtubesinrear
9. WhileholdingtheHHAhead,removebothblue‐bandedandwhite‐bandedairflowtubesfromrearofheadand
slowlydropHHAheadbelowvacuumtubeendtoremovecompletely

Ifinstallingtheseflowtubesinerroritwillgenerateanovertemperrorwhenrunningheaterhead
15. Carefullymoveheadupward;install3xmountingscrewsthroughbottomholesandattachtheheadtothecasting
bottom(NOTE:3/32”hexallenkeywithlongstraightscrewdrivertypehandleispreferredtoolforinstallation)
16. Tightenall3xspring‐loadedmountingscrewsuntilthey‘stop’(allthewayup)

17. IMPORTANTSTEP!Useasmalltooltotightenthefemalesocketconnectorson4‐pinRTDconnectorasshown
18. Re‐installheaterhead4‐pinRTDconnectionandlargewhite3‐pinpowerconnectioninsidehead;besuretoroute
wiringawayfromvacuumtube,etc.tokeepfromgetting‘pinched’
19. Checkairflowtubingforbendsandkinks

20. Placerodinsidenozzleleverholderandinstallnozzleleverbythreadingintoholeonnozzlering
21. Tightennozzleleverwithaslightturnusingpliers
22. Toadjustrotationtravel,pullofftheleverbootanduse.035hexallenkeytoadjustsmallsetscrewinsidelever
handle;whenrotatingthenozzleshouldhavesomeslightdragandnotbetooloose

CHECK/ADJUSTNOZZLECO‐PLANARITYWITHBOARDLEVEL
Turnonmachineandopensoftware
Thefollowingprocedureisformakingsurethatthereflownozzleedgesareparallelorco‐planartopcbaorboardlevel
23. AttachareflownozzletotheAPRnozzlering.Thepreferrednozzlesizeisalargesize,NZA‐400‐400orNZA‐450‐
450forexample.
24. Ifavailable,installanunpopulatedpcbaintotheboardholder.Ifnecessary,reversemountthebottomplateofthe
opticalkitsobottomfacesup.Allthatisneededisaflatsurfaceatpcbaleveltocomparewithnozzleedge.
25. Verifythattheboardislevelinboardholder
26. RemoveanyVNZpipettefromthevacuumtube,itwillnotbenecessaryforthisprocedure.
27. BringtheheaddownwardinFASTspeeduntilheadstops.SwitchtoCOARSEspeedandbringdownreflownozzle
edgetoabout0.25”(10.0mm)aboveboardlevel.SwitchtoFINEspeedandadjustto5‐10milorasneeded.Bring
theheaddownuntilthereflownozzleedgesarejustaboveboardlevel.
28. Examineall4sidesofthereflownozzleedgeswithrespecttoboardlevel.All4sidesshouldbeparalleltoboard
level.
29. Ifnozzleedgesarenotparallelorco‐planar,adjustthe3spring‐loadedscrewsholdingtheheaterheadassemblyto
theheadcasting.Forside‐to‐side(pivot)adjustmentconcentrateon2rearscrews.Forfront‐to‐rear(pivot)
adjustmentconcentrateonfrontscrew.Finaladjustmentmayrequireacombinationofthe3adjustscrews.
NOTE:Ensurethat3screwsforholdingheaterheadassemblyarenottooloosesotheheaterheadishanging
looselyofftheheadcasting.Ifscrewsgettooloose,tightenupall3screwstogetanewstartingpointandstartco‐
planarityadjustmentover.

NOTE:nozzleadjustmentisdoneafternozzleco‐planarityadjustment.
30. AnycombinationofVNZvacuumpipetteandNZAreflowboxnozzlecanbeused,butformoreaccuracyin
adjustmentselectasmallerVNZandNZAcombination.ThefollowingwilluseVNZ‐05(5mm)andNZA‐060‐060
(6mmbox)asexample.
31. InstallVNZ‐03vacuumpipetteintovacuumtube.AttachNZA‐060‐060reflownozzle.
32. Insoftwaremanualmode,putthevacuumtubeinFREE.Useafingertoliftupvacuumpipettesothatitisatsame
approximatelevelasbottomnozzleedge,thenputthevacuumtubeinLOCK(oldsoft‐Down)tokeeppipeinplace.
33. Pull out the camera. In COARSE mode, lower the head to where the reflow nozzle bottom edge is about
1” (25.4mm) above the camera. Be careful not to hit the camera with the nozzle or pipe.
34. Insoftwareimagescreenturnthecamerabottomlampallthewaydownandthetoplampallthewayup.Using
softwarecameracontrols,zoominandfocussothebottomofthenozzleboxfillsthescreen.

35. Ifthevacuumpipetteappearsoff‐centertotheedgesofthenozzlebox,loosen4holdingscrewsontheupper
heaterheadplate.
36. Manuallymovetheheaterassemblypositionuntilvacuumpipetteiscenteredinthenozzlebox.
37. Usingthelever,turnthenozzlefullrotationandstopateachsidetocheckcentering.Itmaybenecessarytodoa
“bestpossible”centeringadjustmentforvacuumpipettetoaccommodateeachsideofafullnozzlerotation(4
edges).
38. Aftercenteringthevacuumpipettetothenozzlebox,tightenthe4screwsontheupperplateandre‐verify
centering.
NOTE:Ifthe3spring‐loadedheaterheadscrewsdescribedinSection3areadjustedoffandnozzleishangingtoomuch
atanangleitmaynotbepossibletocenterthepipetteinthebox,thisiswhyitimportanttoperformnozzle‐to‐board
co‐planarityadjustmentbeforecentering.
