1. System Introduction

1.1 Appearance
1.2 Functions and Features
Based on heat pumping theory of absorbing thermal energy from the air, Ariston Air Energy Water
Heater is a new generation water heating device for shower and washing.
Features:
1. It utilizes heat pumping special compressor.
2. Based on heat pumping theory, it realizes more than 3 times efficiency ratio through absorbing
thermal energy from the air which is totally free for charge.
3. Together with intensified titanium-planted porcelain enamel tank, externally positioned heat
exchange structure enables higher heat exchange ratio and longer durability and prevents
refrigerant leakage.
4. Auxiliary high efficiency heating tube with water and electricity separated feature.
5. Smart computer and remote control enable multi-mode option.
6. Over-heating and over-pressure protection.
7. Exclusively equipped with ProTech titanium-plated ion bar, it could better remove scale and
realize corruption resistance.

8. Specially designed night mode significantly reduces the operation cost of users from regions of
time-sharing power supply.
9. Wireless remote control and wire controller (optional) meet different user needs.
10. This product is equipped with leakage protection special plug, which not only serves as regular
leakage protector but also provides additional safety in the case of abnormal grounding, to meet all
the requirements described in GB4706, 12-2006 and appendix AA.

3. Warning
According to certain national standard, there are some limitations of installing water heater in the
bathroom.
Ariston Thermo Group (China) Co., Ltd. bears no responsibility for damages result from user’s
installation and operation which are against instructions of this manual. Product installation must
be implemented by technicians authorized or certified by Ariston and we don’t bear any
responsibility in the process of the installation carried by users themselves.
It is more than necessary to pay attention to the following issues:
·Must use original safety valve which is attached to product package.
·Product package must be intact and not replaced by other parts.
·Product installation must be implemented by technicians authorized or certified by Ariston and
expansion bolts must be fastened.
·Make sure that power supply voltage is the same with that on product tag and that ammeter, outlet
(16A outlet) and cable diameter (related with 16A outlet) are in conformity with product’s rated
current.
·According to national standard, check for grounding condition, outlet must be connected with
earth wire which is totally separated with neutral wire. It is
strictly prohibited of using water heater without reliable
grounding condition.
·Do not use any electricity adapter and extension cable to
adapt to water heater’s plug or use any other plug to
adapt to its outlet. Please do not use terminal board
(figure d and e).
·Water heater should be separately connected to the
circuit where there is no other electric appliance.
·Water heater and outlet should be installed at a dry
place where is free from water.
·Line cord used by this product is specially designed, if
there’s any damage it could only be changed by
technicians authorized or certified by Ariston.
·If user’s in-house power supply does not meet the
standard requirement then it’s suggested that an
independent leakage protector should be installed into
water heater’s loop.

·Children should use this product for shower under the instruction of other adults.
·In order to avoid injury caused by hot water, it is suggested to release cold water first from water-
mixing valve and then add hot water to get the temperature suitable for use.
·There should be no flammable and explosive material around this product.
·Do not turn off the power when it is running in case ProTech titanium-plated ion bar goes wrong.
4. Installation Instruction
4.1 Installation
A. Requirements on Product’s Installation Position and Load-bearing Wall
·It should be installed at the nearest place where there is outlet, drainage or floor drain for
condensate nearby. If the distance between this product and the installation place is more than 8
meters, then the pipelines should be treated heat preservation finish.
·It should not be installed at kitchen and alike places where there are too much smoke,
electromagnetic wave, unstable voltage and acid or alkaline vapor.
·Its air inlet should not be close to high-temperature heat source, such as bathroom-master, or get
in the way of air inlet.
·Make sure the load-bearing wall can support the weight 4 times of a completed filled water heater.
·Before determining where bolt hole should be and in order to reserve the space needed to open
side panel to perform maintenance operation, it is necessary to make sure that the distance of both
sides of the product from the load-bearing wall is no less than 350mm. This product is better not to
be installed at the ceiling or semi-suspended ceiling.
Note: It is strictly prohibited to vertically install this product.
If it is installed at bathroom or some other narrow space, there is a possibility that you will be
bothered by overflow, noise and decrease of indoor temperature. Please be well prepared for these
problems.

B. How to install this product with L-shaped installation component
·To drill the holes with kirner that is smaller than expansion pipe and then apply to aiguilles with
the same diameter as the expansion pipe to adjust the pre-drilled holes to suitable size in a non-
impact way.
·Insert the expansion pipe and screw L-shaped hook into it using a wrench or other suitable tool
until the distance of the hook head from the wall is “A” (figure g) with the head being upward.
(Refer to the following figure to learn distance “A”).

There’s two ring marks at the tail of L-
shaped installation component. Refer to
the following figure to learn the exposure
length. Wall should be at the between of
two rings.
·Lean the product close to the wall and slowly move it downward until the hook is attached to
installation bracket and then pull it down to make sure the product is fastened.
C. If the floated coat of the wall is too thick or the wall is consist of hollow bricks, then it is
necessary to install additional supporting bracket to make sure the product is well fastened.

Installation Distance: 384mm for HM65/9H and 467mm for HW80/9H

4.2 Pipe Connection
Attach a pressure-release valve (with an arrow pointed to the direction of water flow) to inlet of the
product (i.e. the side where blue cap is). Pressure-release valve must be connected to draft tube
while hot water pipe should be connected to water outlet (the side where red cap is).
Note: Under normal conditions, pressure-releasing safety valve (CODE35006013104) should be
opened regularly to get rid of calcium carbonate deposition and to make sure there’s no clog in it.
Pull the handle to horizontal position to open it and if there’s water coming out then it is functional,
if there is not, please contact local customer service
4.3 Connection of Y-shaped Nozzle for condensate drainage
When the product is ready, follow the instruction of figure H to use Y-shaped Nozzle to release the
pressure of the pressure-release valve which is attached to the product package. Connect the
condensate pipe as shown in the figure to make sure Y-shaped Nozzle continuously lead the water
down to drainage system. Drainage pipe should be installed to an environment free from frost.

5. First Electrical Connection Instruction
5.1 First Electrical Connection
Open inlet valve to fill water into the product and open the tap to release water at the same time,
when the volume of water running in and out the product reaches a balance, it indicates the
product is completely filled and then close the tap. Keep inlet valve open when the product is
running.

Note: Before turning on the power switch, make sure the product is kept standby for at least 30
minutes, the tank is completely filled with water and the whole system is free from leakage.
5.2 Leakage Protection Special Plug Instruction
Make sure the tank is completely filled with water and the system is free from leakage, and then put
the leakage protection special plug into the outlet:
5.2.1 Press “Reset” button and “Safety Guardian” indicator lights up; then press “Leakage
Inspection” button to turn off the power and “Safety Guardian” indicator dies out; and again, press
“Reset” button and “Safety Guardian” indicator lights up, now the product is ready for operation.
5.2.2 If it’s not reset after pressing “Reset” button and “Safety Guardian” indicator does not light up,
then you should contact Ariston customer service to run system inspection; if the product is not
correctly grounded then “Incorrect Grounding Protection” indicator will light up and keep active
until being disconnected. Then leakage protection function is activated to cut the power and
extinguish “Safety Guardian” indicator. Now, you should stop using this product, remove the plug or
disconnect any power supply and contact manufacture’s maintenance staff to resolve any possible
malfunction.
5.2.3 User should regularly inspect the product following the process of 5.2.1. If leakage protection
special plug accidentally cuts off the power when the product is running, please perform the test
following the process of 5.2.1 and continue to use the product if no problem is found.

7. Turn-on and Standby
When the system is connected to power supply for the first time or reconnected, electric controller
will run automatic inspection function and lighten all the indicators on the screen. Seconds later,
the system enters into default mode or gets back to the status as it was disconnected from power
supply last time. If you press the power switch in standby mode then the system will enter into
default heating mode or gets back to the heating mode it was disconnected from power supply last
time and operation interface is displayed to indicate the system is ready to continue to work. If you

press power switch for the second time at this point, then the system will quit operation and change
to standby. The next time the system is initiated, repeat above steps.
Note: The default operation mode is standard mode.
8. Operation Mode Option
8.1 How to Choose Intelligent Heating Pump and Fast Wash
After being turned on and displayed as intelligent heating pump, the system would automatically
choose the best energy-saving way to heat the water. If you push “Fast Wash” button at the
operation interface then fast wash heating mode is activated. You can also terminate fast wash
function by pushing “Fast Wash” button after it is activated. When the water temperature reaches
setting degree then fast wash function, which heats the water in a way that takes minimum time,
will terminate automatically and switch back to intelligent heating pump.
8.2 How to Choose Operation Mode
Turn on the system and enter operation interface, then press “mode” button to enter operation
mode selection, there are three modes, “timing mode”, “night mode” and “standard mode”. If you
press switch button for a long time after the system is turned on, then “sleep mode” will be
activated.
8.3 Timing Mode
Activate “Timing Mode” under the instruction described in 8.2 and the system will automatically
choose the right operation mode according to assigned time because it is a preset mode which
allows the user to set mode time and temperature by pressing “Setting” button then the system will
heat the water in advance to the temperature set previously.
Note:
* The time window available to the user is half an hour
* The time set by the user is when he/she would use the water and there are two time points
available. The system will automatically calculate the real-time data and activate heating mode
according to the result. When timing 1 is in operation, it will flash and it’s exactly the same with
timing 2.
8.4 Night Mode
Activate this mode under the instruction described in 8.2 and the system will automatically select
the suitable mode to heat the water from 23:00 pm to 6:00 am to the temperature set previously.

8.5 Standard Mode
Activate this mode under the instruction described in 8.2 and the system will heat the water
according to its real-time temperature to activate heating pump mode as the priority. When heating
pump reaches suitable temperature the ordinary heating mode will be activated.
8.6 Sleep Mode
Activate this mode under the instruction described in 8.2 and the sleep icon will light up with the
days it is set to be kept in sleep mode while other icons are in dark. Press +/- button to select days
(from 1 to 7) you want the system to be kept in sleep mode. After that, press setting button or don’t
press any button for 5 seconds then the system will automatically activate sleep mode and display
the days it’s set to be kept in sleep mode. Once this mode is activated, you can press +/- button to
select days you want the system to be kept in sleep mode while other buttons are not available.
Press switch button for a long time then the system will quit sleep mode and get back to the mode it
was running.
8.7 Water Quantity Display
Under the mode of timing, night and standard, when heating pipe or heating pump is working, then
the indicator at the right of the panel will flash back and forth to indicate how much hot water there
is in the tank and the fact that the system is working. When heating pipe and heating pump are not
working, then the indicator only indicate how much hot water there is in the tank rather than
flashing back and forth.
Note:
* Under the above operation modes, if you don’t press any button the background will go dark after
30 seconds. If you press any button at that time, the background will light up again and display “set
temperature and actual temperature” and “current time” alternatively every 4 seconds.
* Under the above operation modes, when heating pump is in operation, its indicator will light up
and it’s the same with heating pipe.
* Under the mode of timing, night and standard, when heating pipe or heating pump is working,
then the indicator at the right of the panel will flash back and forth to indicate how much hot water
there is in the tank and the fact that the system is working. When heating pipe and heating pump
are not working, then the indicator only indicate how much hot water there is in the tank rather
than flashing back and forth.

9. Setting
9.1 How to set the Temperature Quickly
Under the mode of night, standard and fast wash, you can directly adjust the temperature by
pressing +/- button and save the settings by pressing setting button or just waiting for 5 seconds
then the system will automatically save the adjusted temperature. Under the mode timing, you can
set two time points (and they are both available for editing, please refer to “9.3 Timing 1, 2
/Temperature Setting” for more details)
9.2 Set CST (Chinese Standard Time)
Under current mode, press “Setting” button for a long time to adjust the hour by pressing +/-
button. After that, press “Setting” button to adjust the minute by pressing +/- button and then press
“Setting” button or just press no button for 5 seconds to complete the time setting and get back to
previous operation interface.
9.3 Timing 1, 2 /Temperature Setting
Activate timing mode under the instruction described in 8.2 and press “Setting” button, when
timing 1 begins to flash press +/- button to adjust the time. After that, press “Setting” button to
enter timing 1 temperature setting to set temperature by pressing +/- button. And then, press
“Setting” button again, when timing 2 begins to flash, press +/- button to adjust the time and then
press “Setting” button to enter timing 2 temperature setting. After that, press “Setting” button or
just wait for 5 seconds to complete time/temperature setting and get back to timing mode.
10. Remote Controller
This product is equipped with an infrared remote controller. To use it, please target the infrared
signal sending window at remote control’s signal receiving window.
Remote controller’s function setting is the same with relating buttons on this product’s panel.
Once the buttons are pressed the indicator on the remote control will light up. If the remote control
is not working, please consider to change the battery.

11. Wire Controller (optional)
You can choose to purchase a wire controller for this product.
If there’s need, please contact local distributor.
Note: Remote control cannot used to operate wire controller
12. Care and Maintenance
·All maintenance services shall be carried out solely by technicians authorized or certified by
Ariston. Before you make the call to local customer service, please make sure the malfunction is not
caused by temporary cutoff of water or power supply.
·Please take good care of invoice, instruction manual, user service manual and barcode as the
warrant for care and maintenance.
12.1 Inner Tank Emptying
If you need to empty the tank, please cutoff the power supply at first and shut down water inlet to
make sure safety valve and the attached Y-shaped nozzle are pointed downward to drainage

system. Move the handle on safety valve to horizontal position and remove hot water pipe from the
product to ensure water outlet is exposed to the air.
Note: Water heater must be filled with water before the power is turned on again.
12.1 Inner Tank Cleaning
The tank should be cleaned after being used for awhile to get rid of scale. Please refer to the
following steps:
·Cut off the power
·Screw down pressure-release valve and inner pipes
·Connect water outlet to tap water, it’s where the water comes in; connect water inlet to ground
drainage using pipes, it’s where the water comes out
·Open water inlet valve to maximize the volume of tap water to clean water tank until all the water
comes out of it is clean
·Connect inlet and outlet pipe as described in 4.2 to test for leakage before the product is electrified.
12.3 Regular Cleaning of Filter Mesh
It is suggested to clean the filter mesh of the product’s air inlet to prevent clog which will effects
heating pump performance. The mesh shall be removed in this way:
1. Screw down 4 bolts at front and back cover using Phillips screwdriver and remove front panel
carefully to prevent to damage signal connection
2. Remove terminal panel from the slot
3. Remove filter mesh and wash it with water to get rid of dust and dirt. After it’s dry, reinstall it
along with terminal panel into the slots of front and back cover
4. Close front cover and screw tight 4 bolts using Phillips screwdriver to complete filter mesh
cleaning.
