ConnectingtheEMTAtoComputer
ThissectionexplainsthewaytoattachCableTVwiretoEMTAandtoconnectyourEMTAtothe
Ethernetportonyourpersonalcomputerandinstallthenecessarysoftware.
AttachingtheCableTVWiretoEMTA
YoumayfindtheCableTVwireoneofthefollowingways:
zConnecteddirectlytoaTV,aCableTVconverterbox,orVCR.Thelinewillbeconnectedtothejack
withwhichshouldbelabeledeitherIN,CABLEIN,CATV,CATVIN,etc.
zConnectedtoawall‐mountedcableoutlet.
Connectoneendofthecoaxialcabletothecableconnectioninthewall,andtheotherendtotheCABLE
jackontheEMTA.

Maketheconnectionstomodeminthefollowingsequence:
zConnecttheplugfromtheACpowersupplyintothePOWERACADAPTERjackontheEMTA,and
plugthepowersupplyintoanACoutletinthewall.
zConnectoneendoftheEthernetcabletotheEthernetportonthebackofyourcomputer,andthe
otherendtotheETHERNETportontheEMTA.

ActivatingtheEMTA
AfteryouinstalltheEMTAandturnitonforthefirsttime(andeachtimethemodemisreconnectedto
thepower),itgoesthroughseveralstepsbeforeitcanbeused.Eachofthesestepsisrepresentedbya
differentpatternofflashinglightsonthefrontofthemodem.
Note:Allindicatorsflashoncepriortotheinitializationsequence.
Ifallofthelightsareflashingsequentially,itmeanstheEMTAisautomaticallyupdatingitssystem
software.Pleasewaitforthelightstostopflashing.Youcannotuseyourmodemduringthistime.Do
notremovethepowersupplyorresettheEMTAduringthisprocess.
TomakesurethatyoucanaccesstheInternetsuccessfully,pleasecheckthefollowingfirst.
1. Makesuretheconnection(throughEthernet)betweentheEMTAandyourcomputerisOK.
2. MakesuretheTCP/IPprotocolissetproperly.
3. SubscribetoaCableCompany.

AccessingtheInternet
Ifenabledbyyourserviceprovider;pleaseproceedasfollows:
1. OnceyourhostPCisproperlyconfigured.
2. StartyourwebbrowserandtypetheCMIPaddressontheURLfield.
AfterconnectingtotheURL,youcanseetheloginpage.Pleaseentertheusername,passwordandthen
pressLoginbutton.Thedefaultusernameis"admin"andpasswordis"password".

yourcablecompany.IfNetworkAccessshows“Allowed,”thenyourcablecompanyhasconfiguredyour
gatewaytohaveInternetconnectivity.Ifnot,youmaynothaveInternetaccess,andshouldcontactyour

Thisissetbydifferentactions(nonexhaustivelist):

thedefaultsettingafterusingitsownsettings
Whenthecurrentpasswordisthedefaultone,theuserisstronglyencouragedtochangethedefault
webpassword.
Atyourfirstconnectionorwhilethepasswordisthedefaultone,awarningmessageisdisplayedonthe
topbannerofeachWebconfigurationpage.Wewanttoencourageyoutochangethepasswordinorder
toenforcethesecurityofyourmodem.
Thepasswordcanbeamaximumof8charactersandiscasesensitive.Inaddition,thispagecanbeused
torestorethegatewaytoitsoriginalfactorysettings.Usethiswithcaution,asallthesettingsyouhave
madewillbelost.Toperformthisreset,setRestoreFactoryDefaultstoYesandclickApply.Thishas
thesameeffectasafactoryresetusingtherearpanelresetswitch,whereyouholdontheswitchfor5
seconds,thenreleaseit.
Note:Wearealwayssuggestingyoutomodifythepassword.Thisisabasicprotectionagainstwrongful
accesstotheGatewayWebpages.

Thispageoffersbasicdiagnostictoolsforyoutousewhenconnectivityproblemsoccur.Whenyouping
anInternetdevice,yousendapackettoitsTCP/IPstack,anditsendsonebacktoyours.Tousetheping
Test,entertheinformationneededandpressStartTest;theResultwillbedisplayedinthelowerpartof
thewindow.PressAbortTesttostop,andClearResultstocleartheresultcontents.Note:Firewallsmay
causepingstofailbutstillprovideyouTCP/IPaccesstoselecteddevicesbehindthem.Keepthisinmind
whenpingadevicethatmaybebehindafirewall.PingismostusefultoverifyconnectivitywithPCs
whichdonothavefirewalls,suchasthePCsonyourLANside.
