Knowing your USB
Bluetooth adapter
System requirements
Before using your ASUS USB Bluetooth adapter, ensure that your system meets
the following requirements:
Operating system: Microsoft®Windows®XP / Vista
System memory: 64MB or larger
Hard drive free space: 100MB
If any of the items is damaged or missing, contact your retailer.
Bluetooth®overview
Bluetooth®is a short-range wireless technology that allows communication
among Bluetooth-enabled devices such as PCs, mobile devices, headsets, and
GPS receivers. Bluetooth® devices only need to be within the specied range to
exchange information and do not need any physical connection.
With Bluetooth®technology, you can:
• Connect your computer to the Internet using a Bluetooth-enabled mobile
phone.
• Connect your computer to other Bluetooth devices that are within range.
• Synchronize data between your computer and Bluetooth-enabled mobile
phone.
• Use a wireless mouse, keyboard, or game controller on your computer.

Installing the Bluetooth Vista Suite
The Bluetooth Vista Suite is a Bluetooth management tool that helps you nd, pair,
and communicate with other Bluetooth devices easily.
• Uninstall any previously installed Bluetooth software on your computer.
Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall a
program to uninstall Bluetooth software.
• Install the Windows®Vista Service Pack 1 or later versions.
• Install the Bluetooth Vista Suite before inserting the USB Bluetooth adapter.
To install the Bluetooth Vista Suite on your computer:
1. Place the Support CD into the optical drive.
2. Click Allow on the User Account Control screen.
3. Select your language and click Install Bluetooth Utilities/Driver.
4. Click OK.

6. Click Next to install the Bluetooth Vista Suite to the default folder or click
Change to specify another folder.
5. The InstallShield Wizard for Bluetooth Vista Suite launches. Click Next to
continue.

7. Click Install to start the installation.
8. Click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

Launching the Bluetooth Vista Suite
The Bluetooth Vista Suite allows you to manage your Bluetooth devices using the
Bluetooth Devices dialog box and the Bluetooth menu.

The Bluetooth Devices dialog box
allows you to manage your Bluetooth
devices and use various Bluetooth
services.
To launch the Bluetooth Devices
dialog box:
• Click Start > All Programs
> ASUS Bluetooth Suite >
Bluetooth Devices.
• Click Start > Control Panel >
Hardware and Sound > Bluetooth
Devices.
9. Click Yes to restart your computer and activate the changes.
10. Insert the USB Bluetooth adapter after your computer reboots, then the
computer detects the USB Bluetooth adapter and completes installing the
Bluetooth prole drivers.

to manage your Bluetooth devices
using this dialog box.

The Bluetooth menu
The Bluetooth menu provides shortcuts to performing common Bluetooth
operations such as device pairing, le transfer, and Personal Area Network (PAN)
connection.
To use the Bluetooth menu:
1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the notication area.
2. Select the operation that you want to perform.
By default, the Bluetooth icon is not
loaded in the notication area. To show
this icon in the notication area, check
Show the Bluetooth icon in the
notication area on the Options page
of the Bluetooth Devices dialog box.

Refer to the succeeding sections on the descriptions for the items on the Bluetooth
menu.
Add a Bluetooth Device
This item launches the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard that guides you in pairing
your computer with another Bluetooth device.
• You may also click Add on the Devices page of the Bluetooth Devices dialog box to launch
the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard.
• Refer to Chapter 3: Pairing with a Bluetooth device for details on how to pair your
computer with another Bluetooth device using this wizard.

Show Bluetooth Devices
This item displays the Bluetooth devices that your computer has paired with.
Send a File / Receive a File
This item launches the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard that guides you in
transferring a le between your computer and another Bluetooth device such as a
mobile phone or another computer.
• You may also click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Bluetooth File Transfer
Wizard to launch the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard.
• Refer to Chapter 4: Sending and receiving les for details on how to transfer a le
between your computer and another Bluetooth device using this wizard.

Open Bluetooth Settings
This item launches the Bluetooth Devices dialog box that allows you to manage
your Bluetooth devices and use various Bluetooth services.
Remove Bluetooth Icon
This item removes the Bluetooth icon from the notication area.
Join a Personal Area Network
This item launches the Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices screen and
connects your computer to a Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN).
Refer to Chapter 5: Joining a Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) for details about
Bluetooth PAN.

Pairing with a Bluetooth device
To pair your computer with a Bluetooth device:
1. Insert the USB Bluetooth adapter into your computer’s USB port.
2. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the notication area, then click Add a
Bluetooth Device.
• Before transferring data between your computer and another Bluetooth device, pair your
computer with the Bluetooth device.
• Before pairing with a Bluetooth device, ensure that the Bluetooth device is turned on and
discoverable. Refer to the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device for
instructions on how to make it discoverable.
Pairing your computer with a Bluetooth
device
Use the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard to pair your computer with another
Bluetooth device.

3. The Add Bluetooth Device Wizard launches. Ensure that the Bluetooth device
that you want to pair with is turned on and discoverable, then check My device
is set up and ready to be found. Click Next to continue.
4. Select the Bluetooth device that you want to pair with, then click Next.
To secure your data, pair with Bluetooth devices that you trust only.

5. Use a passkey to pair with your Bluetooth device. Select one of the following
options, then click Next.
Choose a passkey for me
Select this option if the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device
you want to add does not specify a passkey and you want the Add Bluetooth
Device Wizard to generate a passkey for you.
Use the passkey found in the documentation
Select this option if the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device you
want to add species a passkey.
Let me choose my own passkey
Select this option if the documentation that came with the Bluetooth device
you want to add does not specify a passkey and you want to create your own
passkey.
Don’t use a passkey
Select this option only if the Bluetooth device you want to add does not support
a passkey.
We recommend that you create a passkey that contains 8 to 16 digits.

6. Enter the passkey on the Bluetooth device that you want to pair with.
7. The pairing relationship between your computer and the Bluetooth device is
established. Click Finish to exit the wizard.

Launching the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard
Use the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard to transfer les, one at a time, between
your computer and another Bluetooth device, such as a mobile phone or another
computer.
To launch the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard:
• Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the notication area, then select Send a
File or Receive a File.
• Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard.
To send a le to a Bluetooth device:
1. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the notication area, then select Send a
File.
Before transferring data between your computer and another Bluetooth device, pair your
computer with the Bluetooth device. Refer to Chapter 3: Pairing with a Bluetooth device for
details on how to pair your computer with another Bluetooth device.
The Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard uses the OBEX Bluetooth Object Push Prole (OPP).
