INTRODUCTION
Your new SM144 is a 14" monochrome monilor designed lo display the
video signal lrom your Atari ST or STE computer. To obtain optimum
results, spend a few minutes reading this manual carelully belore you
operate the monitor.
POWER SOURCE
The monitor is manufactured and set to operate at 9g to .lA2 VAC,60
Hz. Plug the AC power cord into a standard electrical ouflet.

Warning: To prevenl lire or shock hazard, do nol expose this
appliance lo rain or moisture.
INSTALLATION
Belore using the monitor, lirst install the no-skid rubber leet to the bottom
ol the monilor base. Then connecl the monitor base to the bottom ol the
monilor.
Positioning the Monitor
The base ol the monitor lits against Mega STE compulers to provide a
secure and convenienl position lor the monitor. ll you are using the
monitor with a Mega STE compuler and you are not going to position the
monilor on lop ol lhe Mega STE, or if you are using the monitor wilh
another computer, make sure lo install the no-skid rubber leet to the
boltom ol the monitor base.

Connecting the Monitor Base
Alter you install the no-skid rubber leet to lhe botlom ol the monitor base,
align the tabs on the monitor base againsl the slots in the boltom ol the
moniior. Press lirmly on the base until all the tabs click into place.
OPERATION
To, connect the monitor to your Atari ST or STE computer, use lhe
lollowing procedure:
1. Belore connecting ihe monitor to the compuler, turn oll all power to
the equipment.
2. Connecl the monitor cable (with a 13-pin DIN connector) to
lhe video port on your computer as described in your compuler owner's
manual.

3. Plug the power cord into the monitor. Then plug the other end ol the
power cord into a properly grounded elechical outlet.
4. Press the power switch to ON. The power indicator lights. Always
switch lhe monitor on lirst, then swilch on the compuler.
5. Use lhe Brightness and Contrast controls to adlust the screen image.
Contrast Control - To increase the contrast, turn
clockwise.
Brighlness Conlrol - To inclease the brighlness,
turn clockwise.
The following conkol is lactory adiusted lor the best perlormance. This
control should be adiusled only by your Alari dealer.
H-POSI (horizontal posilion) Horizontally centers lhe display on the
screen.
H-SIZE (horizonlal size) Adiusts lhe horizonlal piclure size.
V-SIZE (vertical size) Adiusts the vertical picture size.
V-POSI (vertical position) Vertically centers the display on the screen'

lnstallation
1 . Use only the power cord supplied wilh the unit.
2- Operate ihe monitor only lrom a power source indicated in lhe
soecilications of lhis manual or lisled on the monitor. ll you are not sure
what type ol power supply you have in your home, consult your Alari
dealer or local power company.
3. Overloaded AC outlets and exlension cords are dangerous. So are
lrayed power cords and broken plugs. They may result in a shock or fire
hazard. Call your Alari dealer lor replacernent.
4. Do not allow anything lo resl upon or roll over the power cord. Do not
place the monitor rirhere the power cord is subject lo damage. This may
result in a shock or lire hazard.
5. Do not use this monilor near water such as a bathtub, washbowl,
kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wel basement, or near a swimming pool.
6. Ventilation openings in lhe monilor's cabinet allow the release ol heal
generaled duririg operation. ll these openings are blo-cked,.built up heat
dan cause lailures which may resuli in a fire hazard. Therelore, never:
. Block ihe boitom ventilation slots by placing the monitor on
a bed, sola, or rug.
. Place the monitor in a buill-in enclosure without proper venlilalion'
. Cover lhe venlilation openings with cloth or other material'
. Place the monitor near or over a radiator or heat source'
7. To avoid personal inlury:
. Do not place the monilor on a sloping shell unless properly secured'
. Use only a stand recommended by lhe manulacturer'
. Do not try to roll a stand with small casters across lhresholds or deep
pile carPets.
8. To prevent lire or shock hazards:

Service
. Always lurn the monitor oll il you leave the room lor more than a
shorl period ol lime. Never leive lhe monilor on when ieaving the
building.
. Ca.ution children about dropping or pushing obiects into the monitor's
cabtnet openings. Some internal parts carry hazardous voitages.
. Unplug the monitor belore cleaning the lace of the picture lube. Use
a slighlly damp (not wet) clolh. Do not use an aeroiol Airecfiy onlnE
prcture tube because overspray may cause electrical shock.'
. Do nol add accessories thal have nol been designed lor lhis monilor.
. During a lighlning storm or when lhe monitor is lo be lelt unaltended
lor an extended period ol time, unplug it lrom the wall ouflet.
. Do_not bring magnetic devices such as magnets or motors near the
picture tube.

1 . Unplug the monilor lrom the electrical oullet and call your Atari dealer
when:
. The power cord or plug is damaged or lrayed.
. Liquid has been spilled into lhe monitor.
. The monilor has been exposed to rain or water.

2. Do nol attempt to service the monitor yourself, as opening or removing

all servicing to your Alari dealer.
3. When replacement parls are required, have your Aiari dealer verily in
writing that lhe replacements used have the same safely
charaiteristics as the original parts. Use ol manulacturer's specilied
repla'cements can prevent fire, shock, and other hazards.
4. Uoon complelion ol any service or repairs lo the monitor, ask your
Aiari dealdr to perlorm-the salety check described in the
manulacturer's service manual.
5. When a video monilor reaches the end ol its useful life, improper
disposal could result in a picture tube implosion.

APPENDIX B:
POWER CONNECTION IN THE UK
The monitor operates on -240V, 50 Hz mains supply. Plug lhe mains to a
specilied outlet.
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance wilh the
lollowing code:Green/Yellow - Earth (E)
Blue - Neutral (N)
Brown - Live (L)
lf lhe colours ol the wires in lhe mains lead ol the monitor do not cor-
respond with the coloured markings identifying lhe terminals in your plug,
proceed as lollows:
The wire coloured GREEN/YELLOW must be connected to the terminal
in the plug marked by the letter E or by the salety earth symbol , or
coloured cFlEEN, or cBEEN/YELLOW.
The wire coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal marked with
the letter N or coloured BLACK. The wire coloured BROWN must be
connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured RED.
ll a '13 Amp (8S1363) plug is used, a 3 Amp tuse must be fitted, or il any
other type ol plug is used, a 3 or 5 Amp luse musl be fitted either in the -
plug, adaptor, or on ihe dislribution board.

The wires in the mains lead are colored in accordance with lhe following

1. Connect the BROWN colored wire colored to the terminal marked wilh

INTRODTJCTION
Votre nouvel 6cran, le SM144, est un monileur 14" monochrome destin6
i la reproduction et d I'alfichage des signaux vid6o transmis par volre
micro-ordinateur Alari ST (ou STE). Nous vous conseillons de prendre
quelques minules pour lire attenlivemenl ce manuel avanl d'utiliser le
moniteur.
ALIMENTATIONI
Une simple prise secteur de 22OY ,50 Hz sullit au moniteur.
ATTENTION : Veillez d prot6ger le moniteur et la prise de la
pluie el de l'humidil6.
INSTALLATION
Avant de methe en marche volre moniteur, prenez guelques instants
pour installer les patins de caoutchouc qui proldgent la partie inl6rieure
ilu socle. Assemblez ensuite ce socle el le moniteur.

Le SMl44 est conQu pour 6pouser parlailement la forme de certains

Mise en place du socle
Une lois les sept.patins install6s, laites conespondre les pelits ergols du
socle avec les rainures se lrouvanl sur la parlie inteiieuijdu mon]teur.
Appuyez lermement iusqu'a ce que le soile soif Uien eri pface.
FONCTIONINEh'ENT
Suivez les 6tapes ci-dessous pour connecter le moniteur au micro-
ordinateur.
1. Meltez lous les 6l6menls du sysldme hors lension, avant de raccorder
le moniteur et le micro-ordinat-eur.
2. Raccordez le c6ble du monileur (prise DIN i3 broches), au port vid6o
du micro-ordinateur. R6f6rez-vou's au manuel a;uttisiii6n au df tou -
du STE).

3. Branchez le cible d'alimentation au monileur, puis i une prise secteur
(avec mise i la lerre).
4. Actionnez le bouton marche/arret. Le voyanl lumineux de mise sous
tension doit s'6clairer. ll est pr6l6rable de touiours allumer le moniteur
avanl le micro-ordinateur.
5. Utilisez lEs boulons de r6glage de contraste el de luminosit6 pour
r6gler l'image.
Contraste - Tourner dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre pour
augmenler le conlraste.
Luminosil6 - Tourner dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre pour
augmenter la luminosil6.
Les r6olaoes ci-dessous sonl ellectues en usine. Le cas 6ch6ant, laissez
i votrdre-vendeur Atari le soin de les r6gler.
H-POSI (r6glage de I'horizonlalil6). Permet de cenlrer horizontalement
I'image sur l'6cran.
H-SIZE (taille en largeur). Permel de r6gler la taille db I'image'
V-SIZE (taille en hauteur). Permet de r6gler la laille de I'image'
V-POSI (r6glage de la verticalit6). Permet de centrer verlicalemenl
l'image sur l'6cran.
