Conventions
This manual uses the following conventions:
Courier Indicates text that you should key in.
[ ] Indicates keys you should press. For example, [Enter] means to
press the Enter key. If keys need to be chorded, they appear
together in the same bracket with a plus sign between them:
[Ctrl+Alt].
1. Numbered lists represent procedures with sequential steps.
MBullet lists provide information, but do not involve sequential
steps.
→Indicates movement through a series.Forexample,Start→Run
means to open the Start menu, and then select Run.

Chapter 1.
Introduction
Overview
The Master View CS-1772 and CS-1774 represent a revolutionary new direction in
KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) Switches. These two (CS-1772) and four (CS-1774)
port USB KVM Switches incorporate a two port USB Hub and an ethernet hub all in
the same compact unit. This eliminates the need to purchase separate hubs or
standalone peripheral sharers such as print servers, modem splitters, etc.
As KVM switches, the CS-1772 and CS-1774 allow users to access two or four
computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor console. They
improve on previous designs by using the fast, reliable, USB bus to transferring
keyboard and mouse data to the computers, while the integrated two-port USB hub
permits any of the computers to access any peripherals connected to it on a ‘one
computer at a time’ basis.
Recognizing the importance of sound in the computing environment, the CS-1772 /
CS-1774 is also audio enabled. A single microphone can provide audio input to any
of the computers, and you can listen to the audio output of any computer (on a
one-at-a-time basis) on a single set of speakers.
The CS-1772 / CS-1774’s asynchronous switching feature allows independent
switching of the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus. If you wish, you can give one
computer the KVM console focus, another the USB hub focus, while a third has the
audio focus. You can work on a spreadsheet on one computer, for example, while you
print from a second computer at the same time.
Setup is fast and easy; you simply plug cables into their appropriate ports. There is no
software to configure, no installation routines, and no incompatibility problems. Since
the CS-1772 / CS-1774 intercepts keyboard input directly, it works on multiple
operating platforms (PC compatible, Mac, Sun, etc.). There are two convenient
methods to access the computers: pressing push button port selection switches located
on the unit’s front panel; and entering hotkey combinations from the keyboard.
Since a single console manages all of the computers, the CS-1772 / CS-1774
installation: 1) eliminates the expense of having to purchase separate components for
each computer; 2) saves all the space those extra components would take up; 3) saves
on energy costs; and 4) eliminates the inconvenience and wasted effort involved in
constantly moving from one computer to another.

Hardware Requirements
Console
MA VGA, SVGA, or Multisync monitor capable of the highest resolution that you
will be using on any computer in the installation.
MA USB style mouse
MA USB style keyboard
Computer
The following equipment must be installed on each computer:
MA VGA, SVGA or Multisync card
M1 Type A USB port for keyboard/mouse cable
M1 Type A USB port for USB hub cable
Cables
Only CS Custom cable sets specifically designed to work with this switch may be
used to link to the computers. Two (CS-1772) or four (CS-1774) 1.8m cable sets are
provided with this package.
Note: The quality of the display is affected by the quality and length of the cable. If
you need additional cable sets, contact your dealer to purchase the correct ones
for your switch.

1. Port Selection Switches
Pressing a switch brings the focus to the computer attached to its corresponding
port. See p. 13 for operation details.
2. Port LEDs
The Port LEDs are built into the Port Selection Switches. The upper ones are the
KVM Port LEDs; the lower ones are the USB LEDs:
LED Indication
KVM: MLights DIM ORANGE to indicate that the computer attached to its
corresponding port is up and running (On Line).
MChanges to BRIGHT ORANGE to indicate that the computer
attached to its corresponding port is the one that has the KVM focus
(Selected).
MFlashes to indicate that the computer attached to its corresponding
port is being accessed under Auto Scan mode.
USB: MLights DIM GREEN to indicate that there is a USB cable connection
to the computer attached to its corresponding port. Does not light if
there is no USB connection to the computer.
MChanges to BRIGHT GREEN to indicate that the computer attached
to its corresponding port is the one that has access to the USB
peripherals.
3. Ethernet LEDs
The ethernet LEDs light to indicate the data transmission status of their
corresponding ports on the ethernet hub:
LED Status Indication
LAN Link Off No data connection to the computer attached to its
corresponding port.
On Data connection to the computer attached to its
corresponding port is in effect.
Flashing Data is being transmitted through the port.
10/100Mbps Off Data transmission speed is 10Mbps.
On Data transmission speed is 100Mbps.
4. USB Hub Section
USB peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) can plug into either port.

1. Ethernet Port Section
The Cat5 LAN cable that connects to the computer’s ethernet port can plug into
any available port.
2. Console Audio Jacks
The cables from your microphone and speakers plug in here. Each jack is color
coded and marked with an appropriate icon to indicate itself.
3. Firmware Upgrade Port
The Firmware Upgrade Cable that transfers the firmware upgrade data to the
CS-1772 / CS-1774 plugs in here. See p. 25 for firmware upgrade details.
4. Power Jack
The power adapter cable plugs into this jack.
5. Console Port Section
Your USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor plug in here.
6. CPU Port Section
The cables that link the switch to your computers plug in here. Each CPU port is
comprised of a microphone jack, speaker jack, and KVM data connector.
Note: The shape of these 15-pin connectors has been specifically modified so that
only KVM cables designed to work with this switch can plug in (see the
Cables section on p. 3, for details). Do NOT attempt to use ordinary 15 pin
VGA connector cables to link these ports to the computers.

Cable Connection
To set up your Master View CS-1772 / CS-1774 installation, refer to the installation
diagram on the following page, and do the following:
1. Plug your keyboard, mouse and monitor into the Console Ports located on the
unit’s rear panel.
2. Plug your microphone and speakers into the Console microphone and speaker
jacks located on the unit’s rear panel.
3. Using a KVM cable set (provided with this package), plug the custom SPHD
connector into any available CPU Port on the switch and plug the accompanying
microphone and speaker connectors into the CPU Port’s microphone and speaker
jacks.
Note: 1. The connectors and jacks are color coded and marked with an appropriate
icon for easy installation.
2. Be sure that all the plugs are in the same CPU Port sockets (all in Port 1,
all in Port 2, etc.).
4. At the other end of the cable, plug the USB keyboard/mouse, USB hub, video,
microphone and speaker cables into their respective ports on the computer.
5. Use Cat5 cable to connect any available ethernet port on the switch to the
computer’s ethernet port.
Repeat steps 3 - 5 for any other computers you are connecting up.
6. Plug the cable from your external LAN source into any available ethernet port on
the switch.
7. Plug the power adapter that came with your switch into an AC power source, then
plug the power adapter cable into the switch’s Power Jack.
8. Plug your USB peripherals into the USB hub section on the front panel.
1. Make sure that power to all the devices you will be connecting up have
been turned off. You must unplug the power cords of any computers
that have the Keyboard Power On function.
2. Make sure that all devices on the installation are properly grounded.

Port Numbering
Each CPU port on the CS-1772 / CS-1774 switch is assigned a port number (1 or 2
for the CS-1772; 1 to 4 for the CS-1774). The port numbers are marked on the rear
panel of the switch (see p. 7).
The Port ID of a computer is derived from the CPU port number it is connected to.
For example, a computer connected to CPU port 2 has a Port ID of 2.
The Port ID is used to specify which computer gets the KVM, USB hub, and audio
focus with the Hotkey port selection method (see p. 13, for details).
Powering Off and Restarting
If it becomes necessary to Power Off the Master View unit do the following:
1. Power off the switch.
MUnplug the KVM cables from the switch’s rear panel.
MUnplug the switch’s power adapter cable.
2. Wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the KVM cables.
3. Plug the switch’s power adapter cable back in.
Hot Plugging
The Master View CS-1772 / CS-1774 supports USB hot plugging - components can
be removed and added back into the installation by unplugging their cables from the
CPU ports without the need to shut the unit down.

Chapter 3.
Port Switching
There are two convenient methods to switch the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus
among the ports: Manual - which involves pressing the pushbutton port selection
switches located on the unit’s front panel; and Hotkey - which involves entering
combinations from the keyboard.
Manual Port Switching
MPress and release a switch (for less than three seconds) to bring only the KVM
focus to the computer attached to its corresponding port.
MPress a switch for longer than three seconds to bring the KVM, USB hub, and
audio focus to the computer attached to its corresponding port.
MPress switches 1 and 2 simultaneously for 2 seconds to start Auto Scan Mode. See
p. 16 for details.
Hotkey Port Switching
All port switches begin with tapping the Scroll Lock key twice. The tables on the
following pages describe the actions that each combination performs.
Note: If using the Scroll Lock key conflicts with other programs running on the
computer, the Ctrl key can be used, instead. See Alternate Port Switching
Keys, p. 18, for details.

Cycling Through the Ports
Hotkey Action
[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [Enter] Brings the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus from the port
that currently has the KVM focus to the next port on the
installation (1 to 2; 2 to 1 for the CS-1772; 1 to 2; 2 to 3; 3
to 4; 4 to 1 for the CS-1774).
Note that the KVM, USB hub, and audio focus all go to this
port even if they were on different ports to begin with.
[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [K]
[Enter] Brings only the KVM focus from the port that currently has it to the next port on the installation. The USB hub and audio
focus remain where they are.
[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [U]
[Enter] Brings only the USB hub focus from the port that currently has it to the next port on the installation. The KVM and
audio focus remain where they are.
[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [S]
[Enter] Brings only the audio focus from the port that currently has it to the next port on the installation. The KVM and USB hub
focus remain where they are.
