Overview
The Tensor system
The Tensor system consists of a range of tightening tools powered by brushless
electric motors and different drive units.
Motors are available in different sizes. All tools are protected from overheating
of the motor. Electrical protection system is based on an earth fault circuit
brake, Earth Fault Protector (EFP). The EFP senses small current leakage
(>30mA) and if leakage occurs, the drive is switched off (30ms). Changing, in-
terfering or tampering with the protection system voids all warranty and obliga-
tions from Atlas Copco. Trouble-shooting and re-start of the system may only
be carried out by an authorized person. Check the function of the EFP on a reg-
ular basis by pressing the trip-button. The EFP should switch off accordingly.

haul of your tool and specific parts. If the machine is not working properly, it
should immediately be taken away for inspection. At the overhauls, all parts

Installation
Connecting tool
The tool should, via its correct Power Focus drive unit, be connected to the
mains, 230V/50Hz alternatively 115V/ 60Hz, single phase. See instructions for
your Power Focus drive unit.
Tool display
The tool display is turned on from the controller.
On Power Focus 4000:
• Push the Prog button
• Use the navigation buttons to follow the path > Tool > Configuration > Ac-
cessory bus > ST bus > Mode
Socket release function
It is recommended to use the socket release function on all the ETP ST101
tools. When the function is enabled, the socket rotates backwards 3 oafter a
completed tightening. The aim is to reduce tension on the reaction bar and to
make it easier to remove the tool.
The socket release function is turned on from the controller.
On Power Focus 4000:
• Push the Prog button
• Use the navigation buttons to follow the path > Pset > Programming+ > Op-
tions > Socket release > Mode On
Grounding
If the tool is mounted in a handheld or hand guided fixture, the fixture should
be connected to the drive using a separate 2.5mm2 grounding cable.

Fitting of the tool cable
• Security check that the cable type is correct
• Align the cable connector using the two asymmetrically positioned heads on
the connector to fit in the slots in the tool handle.
• Tighten the lock nut.
• Security check that the connection is correct by pulling, pushing and turning
the cable connector (there should be no movement).
The tool has a built in electronic memory chip that will transmit the torque
transducer calibration value and angle pulses to the POWER FOCUS/drive
unit. Any changes made of these values in the POWER FOCUS while the
tool is connected will be stored in the tool memory.

Ergonomic guidelines
Consider your workstation as you read through this list of general ergonomic
guidelines and see if you can identify areas for improvement in posture, compo-
nent placement, or work environment.
• Take frequent breaks and change work positions frequently.
• Adapt the workstation area to your needs and the work task.
• Adjust for convenient reach range by determining where parts or tools
should be located to avoid static load.
• Use workstation equipment such as tables and chairs appropriate for the
work task.
• Avoid work positions above shoulder level or with static holding during as-
sembly operations.
• When working above shoulder level, reduce the load on the static mus-
cles by reducing the weight of the tool, using for example torque arms,
hose reels or weight balancers. You can also reduce the load on the static
muscles by holding the tool close to the body.
• Make sure to take frequent breaks.
• Avoid extreme arm or wrist postures, particularly for operations requir-
ing a degree of force.
• Adjust for convenient field of vision by minimizing movement of the eyes
and head during the work task.
• Use the appropriate lighting for the work task.
• Select the appropriate tool for the work task.
• Use ear protection equipment in noisy environments.
• Use high-quality inserted tools or consumables to minimize exposure to ex-
cessive levels of vibration.
• Minimize exposure to reaction forces.
• When cutting:
A cut-off wheel can get stuck if the wheel is either bent or if it is not
guided properly. Make sure to use the correct flanges for cut-off wheels
and avoid bending the wheel during cut-off operation.
• When drilling:
The drill might stall when the drill bit breaks through. Makes sure you
use support handles if the stall torque is too high. The safety standard
ISO11148 part 3 recommends using something to absorb the reaction
torque above 10 Nm for pistol grip tools and 4 Nm for straight tools.
• When using direct-driven screw or nutrunners:
Reaction forces depend on tool setting and joint characteristics. The abil-
ity to bear reaction forces depends on the operator’s strength and pos-
ture. Adapt the torque setting to the operator's strength and posture and
use a torque arm or reaction bar if the torque is too high.
• Use dust extraction system or mouth protection mask in dusty environments.

Operating instructions
Operating
Make sure that the tool is in correct working order and that the controller is cor-
rectly programmed to avoid unexpected behaviour from the tool, which may re-
sult in operator injury.
Check that the tool is in the correct running direction by looking at the function
light situated above the tool handle, by turning the reverse ring (only for ETV/
ETD DS or by turning the arm on the trigger knob (only for ETP DS).
The soft-start function facilitates entering the screw head and thread.
The duration of the soft start is adjustable, see the manual for the drive unit.
The tool is equipped with signal lights,
• Green = OK tightening
• Yellow = Warning – low torque (not for ES)
• Red = Warning – high torque
• Orange = Function indicator (only for SL and DL)
• Blue = Function indicator (only for SL)

Maintenance
Preventing ESD problems
The components inside the tool and controller are sensitive to electrostatic dis-
charge. To avoid future malfunction, make sure that service and maintenance is
carried out in an ESD approved work environment. The figure below shows an
example of an appropriate service work station.
Service instructions
Overhaul and preventive maintenance is recommended at regular intervals once
per year or after maximum 250.000 tightening depending on which occurs
sooner. More frequent overhaul may be needed if used at high torque, high cy-
cle rate or long tightening times. If the machine is not working properly, it
should immediately be taken away for inspection.
At the overhauls, all parts should be cleaned accurately and defective or worn
parts (i.e. O-rings) should be replaced.
Cleaning/Inspection
Clean all parts thoroughly in white spirit or similar cleaning agent. After the
cleaning, inspect all parts. Damaged and worn parts should be replaced.
Lubrication
Overhaul
Service must only be carried out by qualified personnel who have access to the
Service instruction and/or have been trained for service on Tensor tools.
The electric motor is a sealed unit and may under no circumstances be
opened by anyone else than Atlas Copco Industrial Technique AB!
If you decide that the electric motor is defect or in need of service, return the
complete motor unit to Atlas Copco Industrial Technique for replacement.
Motors which have been opened by anyone else than Atlas Copco Industrial
Technique will not be serviced.

Overhaul and preventive maintenance is recommended at regular intervals once

duty operations. If the machine not is working properly, it should immediately
be taken away for inspection.
When dismantling the tool always use the specially designed service tool 4080
0848 80, (two service tools are required).
Lubrication
Planetary gears, needle bearings and ball bearings must be lubricated with soft
grease containing molybdenumdisulphide at the regular overhaul of the tool.

Lubricate specially gears and clutch with grease containing molybdenum disul-
phide (e.g. Molykote BR2 Plus). Please see exploded views. Lubricate o-rings
and threaded connections with grease before assembling.

If the nutrunner does not start:
Power Focus 600/6000
Is the unit switched on? Check the earth fault circuit breaker behind the front
door. Should it have tripped, make sure to find the primary fault before resum-
ing operation. Check that the wiring on the remote start connector is correct.
For further information see 9836 4954/9836 7446.
Power Focus 3000/4000
Is the POWER FOCUS switched on and in RUN mode? Check that the correct
POWER FOCUS is used (ST31/ST32/ST61/STR31/STR61-Tensor3-7, ST81-
Tensor8-9). Check the fuses for the drive part. Check Drive parameters, refer to
the User Guide of the POWER FOCUS/ drive unit. Check the earth fault circuit
breaker on the backside of the drive. Should it have tripped, make sure to find
the primary fault before resuming operation. Check that the wiring on the re-
mote start connector is correct. For further information see 9836 2258.
If the tool becomes very hot
With proper adjustment the tool can handle any normal line jobs that an opera-
tor sustains. What can cause overheating are combinations of some factors:
torque above rated, too low speed, too long ramp time (motor has to give high
torque for a long time), very high prevailing torque, very soft joints, short cycle
time. To correct, look over speed, ramp time, tightening strategy. One stage and
Ergoramp are most heat conserving when applicable. Please refer to the User
Guide of your POWER FOCUS. If the above corrections are not enough,
choose a tool of the next higher capacity.

Overview
Le système Tensor
Le système Tensor se compose d'une gamme d'outils de serrage mus par des
moteurs électriques sans balais et différents coffrets de commande.
Les moteurs sont disponibles en différentes tailles. Tous les outils sont protégés
contre une surchauffe du moteur. Le système de protection électrique repose sur
un disjoncteur de fuite à la terre EFP (Earth Fault Protector). L'EFP détecte les
petites fuites de courant (>30mA), et si une fuite survient, la commande est
mise hors tension (30ms). Toute modification, adaptation ou altération du sys-
tème de protection annulera les garanties et obligations d'Atlas Copco. La répa-
ration et la remise en marche du système ne peuvent être effectuées que par une
personne autorisée. Vérifier régulièrement le bon fonctionnement de l'EFP en
appuyant sur le déclencheur. L'EFP doit alors mettre le matériel hors tension.

Il est recommandé de procéder à des révisions et à une maintenance préventive
à intervalles réguliers. Voir le chapitre Maintenance préventive pour obtenir
des informations détaillées concernant la révision de l'outil et des pièces spéci-
fiques. Si l'appareil ne fonctionne pas correctement, il doit être immédiatement
retiré pour vérification. Lors de chaque révision, nettoyer soigneusement toutes
les pièces et remplacer celles qui sont usées ou endommagées.

L'outil devra être raccordé à une alimentation sur secteur monophasée
230V/50Hz ou 115V/60Hz, via le coffret de commande Power Focus voulu.
Consulter la notice du coffret de commande Power Focus.
Mise à la terre
Si l'outil est monté sur un dispositif portatif ou sur un dispositif guidé manuelle-
ment, ce dispositif doit être connecté à l'unité de commande au moyen d'un
câble de terre indépendant de 2,5mm2.
Instructions d'installation
Montage du câble d'outil
• Contrôler par sécurité que le type de câble est correct.
• Aligner le connecteur du câble en faisant coïncider les deux têtes position-
nées de manière asymétrique sur le connecteur avec les fentes dans la poi-
gnée de l'outil.
• Serrer l'écrou de blocage.
• Contrôler par sécurité que le branchement est correct en tirant, en poussant
et en tournant le connecteur de câble (il ne doit y avoir aucun mouvement).
L'outil comporte une puce de mémoire électronique intégrée qui va trans-
mettre la valeur d'étalonnage du transducteur de couple et les impulsions
d'angle au POWER FOCUS/coffret de commande. Tout changement appor-
té à ces valeurs dans le POWER FOCUS tandis que l'outil est connecté sera
enregistré dans la mémoire de l'outil.

Directives d'ergonomie
Étudiez votre poste de travail en lisant cette liste de directives générales d'ergo-
nomie afin de voir si vous pouvez détecter des possibilités d'amélioration quant
à la posture, au placement des composants ou à l'environnement de travail.
• Faire des pauses fréquentes et changer fréquemment de position de travail.
• Adapter le poste de travail à vos besoins et à la tâche à réaliser.
• S'organiser pour avoir un rayon d'action adapté en déterminant l'endroit
où les pièces ou outils devraient être positionnés pour éviter les efforts
statiques.
• Utiliser des équipements de poste de travail tels que des tables et des
chaises adaptés à la tâche à réaliser.
• Éviter les positions de travail au-dessus de l'épaule ou avec un maintien sta-
tique pendant les opérations d'assemblage.
• Pour travailler au-dessus de l'épaule, réduire la charge sur les muscles
statiques en réduisant le poids de l'outil, à l'aide par exemple de bras de
réaction, enrouleurs de flexible ou équilibreurs. On pourra également ré-
duire la charge sur les muscles statiques en tenant l'outil près du corps.
• Veiller à faire des pauses fréquentes.
• Éviter les postures extrêmes du bras ou du poignet, en particulier pour
les opérations nécessitant un certain effort.
• S'organiser pour avoir un champ de vision adapté en limitant le mouvement
des yeux et de la tête pendant l'exécution de la tâche.
• Utiliser un éclairage adapté à la tâche à réaliser.
• Sélectionner l'outil adapté à la tâche à réaliser.
• Utiliser des équipements de protection auditive dans les environnements
bruyants.
• Utiliser des outils insérés ou des consommables de grande qualité pour limi-
ter au strict minimum l'exposition à des niveaux excessifs de vibrations.
• Limiter l'exposition aux forces de réaction.
• Pendant le tronçonnage:
Un disque à tronçonner peut se coincer s'il est fléchi ou s'il n'est pas cor-
rectement guidé. Veiller à utiliser les flasques voulus pour les disques à
tronçonner et éviter de fléchir le disque pendant le tronçonnage.
• Pendant le perçage:
La perceuse peut caler lorsque le foret débouche. Veiller à utiliser des
poignées latérales si le couple de calage est trop élevé. La norme de sé-
curité ISO11148 partie 3 recommande d'utiliser un moyen d'absorber le
couple de réaction au-dessus de 10Nm pour les outils à poignée révolver
et 4Nm pour les outils droits.
• Lors de l'utilisation de visseuses ou boulonneuses à entraînement direct:

Les forces de réaction dépendent du réglage de l'outil et des caractéris-
tiques de l'assemblage. La capacité à supporter les forces de réaction dé-
pend de la force de l'opérateur et de sa posture. Adapter le réglage de
couple à la force de l'opérateur et à sa posture et utiliser un bras ou un
toc de réaction si le couple est trop élevé.
• Utiliser un système d'extraction des poussières ou un masque de protection
de la bouche dans les environnements poussiéreux.
Instructions d’utilisation
Utilisation
Assurez-vous que l’outil est en parfait état de fonctionnement et que l’unité de
commande est correctement programmée afin d’éviter tout comportement inat-
tendu de l’outil susceptible de blesser l’opérateur.
Assurez-vous que l’outil se trouve dans la bonne direction en tournant la bague
d’inversion.
La fonction de démarrage en douceur facilite l’insertion de la tête et du filet de
la vis.
La durée du démarrage en douceur peut être réglée conformément aux instruc-
tions du manuel de l’unité de commande.
L’outil est équipé des témoins lumineux suivants:
• Vert = Serrage OK
• Jaune = Avertissement – couple bas
• Rouge = Avertissement – couple élevé

Prévention des problèmes de DES
Les composants que contiennent l’outil et le contrôleur sont sensibles aux dé-
charges électrostatiques. Pour éviter tout mauvais fonctionnement futur, assu-
rez-vous que les opérations d’entretien et de maintenance se déroulent dans un
environnement de travail homologué DES. L’illustration ci-dessous présente un
exemple de poste de travail acceptable pour l’entretien.
Instructions de service
Il est recommandé de procéder régulièrement à des révisions et à une mainte-
nance préventive de l'outil, une fois par an ou après 250000 serrages maxi-
mum, à la première des deux échéances. Des révisions plus fréquentes peuvent
s'avérer nécessaires si l'outil est utilisé avec un couple élevé, des cadences éle-
vées ou des durées de serrage importantes. Si l'appareil ne fonctionne pas cor-
rectement, il doit être immédiatement retiré pour vérification.
Lors de chaque révision, nettoyez convenablement toutes les pièces et rempla-
cez celles qui sont usées ou endommagées (notamment les joints toriques).
Nettoyage / Inspection
Nettoyez complètement toutes les pièces avec du White spirit ou autre agent de
nettoyage similaire. Après le nettoyage, vérifiez toutes les pièces. Remplacez
toutes les pièces endommagées ou usées.

L’entretien doit être effectué uniquement par du personnel qualifié ayant accès
aux instructions de service et/ou ayant été formé pour l’entretien des outils
équipés d’un système Tensor.
Le moteur électrique est une unité hermétique qui ne peut en aucun cas être
ouverte par quiconque en dehors d'Atlas Copco Industrial Technique AB!
Si vous pensez que le moteur électrique est défectueux ou nécessite une révi-
sion d'entretien, renvoyez le moteur complet à Atlas Copco Industrial Tech-
nique pour le faire remplacer.
Les moteurs qui ont été ouverts par quiconque en dehors d'Atlas Copco Indus-
trial Technique ne seront pas réparés.

mum, selon l’échéance la plus proche. Des révisions plus fréquentes peuvent
s’avérer nécessaires quand l’outil est utilisé pour des opérations hautes capaci-
tés. Si l’outil ne fonctionne pas correctement, il doit être immédiatement retiré
du service et inspecté.
Quand vous démontez l’outil, utilisez exclusivement l’outil de service 4080
0848 80 spécialement conçu à cet effet (vous avez besoin de deux outils de ser-
vice).
Lubrification
Lors de chaque révision, graissez les engrenages planétaires ainsi que les roule-
ments à billes et à aiguilles avec de la graisse contenant du bisulfure de molyb-
dène.
Lubrification
Lubrifiez en particulier les engrenages et l'embrayage avec de la graisse conte-
nant du bisulfite de molybdène (Molykote BR2 Plus, par exemple). Consultez
les vues éclatées. Lubrifiez les joints toriques et les connexions filetées avec de
la graisse avant de les remonter.
