3. Safety instructions for the vacuum brush
Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly
powerful, and improper or careless use may cause serious personal injury or property damage. Due to this,
you should carefully familiarise yourself with the manuals of both the loader and the attachment before
starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you have not familiarised yourself with its operation and the
related hazards.
•When attaching the attachment to the loader, ensure that the locking pins of the
loader's quick attach plate are in the lower position and that they have locked the
attachment to the loader.
•The vacuum brush is intended to be used by one operator at a time. Do not go near the
equipment if another person is operating the controls of the loader.
•Keep a minimum safety distance of two metres from the vacuum brush when it is
running. Beware of entanglement and severing hazards of the rotating brushes,
collecting nozzle, and the vacuum blower in particular, and the debris that may be
thrown from the attachment.
•If it is necessary to go near the attachment because of, e.g. blockage, always follow the
safe stopping procedure shown on the next page. Never leave the driver’s seat when
the vacuum brush is running or if the auxiliary hydraulics control lever is locked on.
Keep hands and feet away from moving components. Removing a blockage may cause
the parts to move, if the hydraulic system is pressurized.
•Be sure not to tilt the vacuum brush too far up, when it could tip over onto the boom due
to the movement made possible by the floating system. Use the controls of the loader
slowly and carefully especially when the collecting box is full.
•Always transport the vacuum brush as low and close to the machine as possible to
keep the centre of gravity low and for the best stability.
•Pay attention to the surroundings and any other persons and machines moving in the
vicinity. Pay attention to the contours of the terrain and other hazards, such as
branches and trees reaching the driver's area.
•Never leave the driver’s seat if the attachment is lifted from the ground. Always lower
the vacuum brush on it’s own support wheels before leaving the driver’s seat. Make
sure that the attachment is properly supported for maintenance and inspections. Going
under a raised attachment or boom is dangerous, the boom may lower unexpectedly
due to loss of stability, equipment failure, or other persons using the controls of the
loader.
•When taking the vacuum brush off from the loader, ensure that it is secured against
accidental movement. To prevent the attachment from moving, lower it onto blocks of
wood, for example.
•Make sure that you use only an attachment that is in proper working condition. Perform
daily inspections and read the instructions on service and maintenance. Never use the
attachment if the hydraulic systems of the attachment and the loader are not completely
in order. Check the brushes and the vacuum unit regularly.
•Make sure that the loader is equipped with necessary safety equipment, and that they
are in order. Seat belt must be used. If there are specific risks at the operating area,
such as hazard of falling objects, the loader must be equipped with protective structure.
•The attachment may throw stones or other objects at high speed. Do not use or
transport the vacuum brush while the collector box door is open, or if the collecting
hose is not properly connected.
