Installing the Avaya P550R™/P880/P882
80 Series 48-Port 10/100 Ethernet Module
Ethernet Module
This document describes the installation and configuration of the
Cajun P550R/P880/P882 80 series 48-port 10/100 Ethernet
Module with Telco connectors.

Software Requirements
The Cajun P550R/P880/P882 80 Series module requires software
of Version 5.2 or higher.

Power Requirements
In the P550R chassis, each power supply powers approximately four
media modules.
In the P880/P882 chassis, each power supply powers approximately
seven media modules.
It takes two power supplies to power a full chassis. Using three
power supplies ensures that the system has redundant power
sharing capabilities.
* Note: Before you install the module in the chassis, determine
how much power is currently available in your switch.
Select Power System from the System >
Configuration > group in the Web interface window.
Use Table 1 for the precise power values:

Installing the Modules
* Notes:
• All Cajun media modules are hot swappable. You do
not need to shut down the switch when adding
modules.
• All Cajun 80 Series media modules can be upgraded
from Layer 2 to Layer 3. Contact your Avaya Sales
Representative for details.
To install modules in the switch chassis:
1. Carefully remove the module from its box, leaving the
module in its anti-static wrapping.
2. Remove the module from the antistatic wrap after taking
appropriate antistatic precautions (refer to Chapter 1,
“Installation” in the Avaya Cajun Switch Installation Guide for
more information on proper antistatic precautions).

3. Open the Ejector Tabs until the stops make contact with the
face plate (Figure 2).

4. Insert the module into the chassis (Figure 2).
5. Press on the center of the module as you push it into the
chassis. The ejectors snap into place.
* Note: It may be necessary to apply upward pressure
on the module during installation. This ensures
proper seating in the chassis.
6. Push the ejectors into the closed position to complete seating
the module (Figure 3).

7. Tighten the captive screws.
As the modules power on, the LEDs should function as described in
the module descriptions provided in the Avaya Cajun Switch
Installation Guide. In general, you will observe the following on a
properly-functioning module (Table 2):
* Note: The yellow power-up LED light is not currently active.
The module takes approximately 45 seconds to power
up, during which time there is no light to indicate any
activity. After the module has successfully powered up,
the LED light becomes green.

Installing the Cables
The 48-port 10/100 media module has four CAT-5 telco connectors,
commonly referred to as RJ71. Each telco connector supports 12
Ethernet or Fast Ethernet connections. The cables and patch panels
listed in Table 3 are qualified for use with the 48-port module. When
you configure the 48-port module for 100 Mbps (100Base-TX), you
must use CAT-5 cables and patch panels. Each 48-port module
requires four cables and one patch panel.
Install appropriate cables for your network configuration and patch
panel. Table 3 lists the Avaya 525 cable assemblies and patch panel
product numbers and codes.
