Overview
The Avocent Emerge MPX 1500 HD extender
system allows A/V professionals to deliver IP-
based audio and video extension solutions for
large-scale venues involving multiple floors or
buildings. Combining Avocent IP-wired/wireless
MPX 1500 HD transmitters and receivers,
the solution extends audio, video, serial and
IR signals from a source device to widely
distributed display devices. For more information,
refer to the Emerge MPX Extender System
Installer/User Guide.
1Preparing to use the extender
system
Place your MPX transmitter and receivers at least
three feet apart on a stable work surface and
attach the antennas. If your installation includes
receivers that will have a wired IP connection,
connect the L2 LAN port of the transmitter to
the L1 LAN port, indicated by the LAN symbol,
on each receiver. Turn on the units and wait for
transmitter initialization to complete. The two
green LEDs will light up alternately and the other
LEDs will turn off.
2Configuring the transmitter
Connect a browser client to the transmitter’s L1
LAN connector and launch a browser session
using the IP address 192.168.1.1 with a subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0.
At the login prompt, leave the username blank•
and enter Admin (case sensitive) as the
password.
When prompted, select the appropriate•
country code.
Select• Source Device Settings and configure
the input video mode for the transmitter. See
the Emerge MPX Extender System Installer/
User Guide for more information.
Select• Change Password to update the
system password.
Select• System Settings to enter a device
name.
If your installation includes wired receivers,•
select Media LAN Settings and enable Wired
Connection in the Basic LAN Settings tab.
3Using explicit bindings (optional)
Turn on your receivers. Wait for them to initialize
and bind to the transmitter. The two green LEDs
will cease to alternate.
Select the Bindings page on the transmitter’s•
web interface and verify that all active
receivers are listed (by MAC address) in the
Detected Receivers list.
Select the Add to Configured Receivers•
checkbox next to each receiver then apply the
changes.
Assign one unit as the primary receiver for•
exchange of IR, serial and EDID data and
apply the change.
If all receivers are bound, you may disable•
the transmitter from automatically binding
additional receivers.
4Configuring the receiver
In the Active Receivers list (lower left of the
transmitter’s web interface), click the MAC
address of the first active receiver to access its
web interface.
Select• Display Device Settings to configure
the output video mode of the receiver.
See the
Emerge MPX Extender System Installer/User
Guide for more information.
Select• System Settings and enter a name for

and a display device to each receiver. Activate
all devices and verify output on each display.
Helpful status information is available on the
Connection Status and Media LAN Performance
pages of the transmitter’s web interface.
6Placing and mounting the extender
system
Without firmly mounting the units, place the
transmitter and receivers in their desired
locations and re-attach the source and display
devices. Turn the units on and allow them to
bind. Select Media LAN Performance on the
transmitter’s web interface. Using the receiver
signal strength and frame rate indicators for
