Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor (TMP-DTA-SEN)
Installation Note
AVTECH’s Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor monitors ambient indoor temperature and a
connected 0 to 5 VDC analog sensor in real time. By connecting an external analog sensor, such
as AVTECH’s Current Loop, you may track the efficiency of, for example, an air conditioner:
the Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor will provide readings for the temperature produced
and electricity consumed by your cooling system, allowing you to make informed decisions
faster about the status or efficiency of the condition being monitored.
This compact, light-weight sensor has operating ranges of -40º to 185º Fahrenheit (-40º to 85º
Celsius) and 0 to 5 VDC; it maintains accuracy within +/- 0.125 degrees and +/- 0.05 volts.

Install Your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor
Step 1: Mount your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor
Locate the sensor where you wish to measure temperature. You may hang it from a nail,
screw or hook through the flange hole, secure it with Velcro or simply place it on a flat
surface.
Step 2: Connect your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor to a Room Alert monitor.
Your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor comes with a 25' RJ-11 cable.
Do not use this sensor in hazardous (classified) locations or life safety applications.

RJ-11 Extension Cable & Coupler

1. Connect one end of the RJ-11 cable to the Digital Port on the Digital Temperature &
Analog Sensor box.
2. Run the built-in 25' cable back to your Room Alert. Try to avoid running it near large
electromagnetic devices or fluorescent lights, which produce EMI that can interfere with
sensor readings.
3. Plug the free end of the RJ-11 cable into an RJ-11 port on
your Room Alert.

You may extend your digital sensor up to 100' away
from your Room Alert. AVTECH stocks the 25' RJ-11
Extension Cable & Coupler (ECC-25E-SEN), shown
here, for this purpose. Please contact your Product
Specialist to purchase this extension cable.
Step 3: Connect your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor to an analog sensor.
You may use any two-wire low-voltage cable to connect the analog
input port to the analog output port on your analog sensor.
AVTECH stocks 25' speaker wire for this purpose; please contact
your Product Specialist to purchase this cable.
1. Separate and strip both ends of a low-voltage, two-wire cable (such as speaker wire).
Expose about ¼" of wire.
2. Connect one set of leads to the analog input port on the Temperature &
Analog Sensor. Note that the port is polarized: the left contact is negative
(-) and the right is positive (+), when viewed with grey push clip up.
3. Connect the +/- wires to the matching +/- contacts on an analog sensor, such as
AVTECH’s Current Loop.
Configure Your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor
With Room Alert’s Built-In Web Interface
Navigate to Settings ÆSensors in the web interface of your Room Alert monitor. The
options you see below will vary depending on the model.
Do not connect the analog inputs on AVTECH products or other electrical appliances
to live circuits of over 5 VDC.
Use only low-voltage 2-wire cable to connect dry contacts.

1. Scroll down to your external digital sensor(s), the total number of which will vary
depending on the Room Alert model.
2. Find the digital sensor interface that matches the port you connected your Digital
Temperature & Analog Sensor to.
3. Notice that your Room Alert automatically detects your sensor and inserts a drop-down
list in “Sensor Type,” which defaults to “Temp/Humidity.” Select “Temp/Analog” to
bring up the interface for your Digital Temperature & Analog Sensor.
4. Then, using the set of fields on the right, configure your Temperature & Analog Sensor
to calculate your analog sensor’s output signal to scale. In this example, we are
converting volts to amperage:
•Click “Enable” to turn on the “Reference,” “Scale” and “Units” fields.
•In “Reference,” enter values from 5 to 0 that represent the “High” and “Low”
points of your analog sensor’s output signal range. Here, we’ve left the default
values of 5 to 0.
•In “Scale,” enter the “High” and “Low” points of the scale you want the
“Reference” reading to be converted to. In this example, we would like to convert
0-5 volts to 0-20 amps, so we’ve put “20” in “High” with “0” in “Low.”

•In “Units,” enter a 1 to 3 character label for the unit type that your readings will
be measured in. If you are measuring amperage (A), you might enter “A” or
“Amp,” as we have in the above example. Note that this field is merely a label
and does not affect any of the calculations.
5. Next, fill in the set of fields to the left of the screen:
•In “Sensor Label,” you may leave the default “Ext Sensor 1” or enter a descriptive
name of up to 15 alphanumeric characters, such as “T/A Server AC” or “Rack 1 Fan
T/A.”
•In “Alarm On,” you may leave the “High” and “Low” for both “Temperature” and
“Analog,” at the default, 0—which means no alarm is configured—or enter values of
up to 4 characters. Your monitor generates alerts based on those thresholds.
oTemperature: Enter values according to the default temperature scale (Fahrenheit
or Celsius). Please refer to your Room Alert or TemPageR User’s Guide &
Reference Manual to change the default scale.
oAnalog: Enter values that fall within the “Scale” range you entered previously. In
our example, we entered a conversion scale of 0 to 20 (amps), and we’ve chosen
to generate alarms at the high and low thresholds of 6 and 1 (amps). Note that if
you decided not to enable the “Reference,” “Scale” and “Units” fields in the
previous step, you must enter numbers within the range 0 to 5 (for 0-5 VDC).
6. In “Adjust,” you may enter a value to increase or decrease the temperature or analog
value if the reading your sensor provides differs slightly from a known value or source.
7. For models with the “Use Alarm Profile” feature: if you have configured Alarm Profiles
in the Alarm Options screen, you may choose a profile from the drop-down menu. The
default is “Profile 1.”
8. Click Accept Changes at the bottom of your screen to temporarily save your settings.
You may now navigate to another screen; however, if you close the web interface before
the next step, you will lose your changes.
9. Click Save Settings in the navigation bar to the left of your screen. Your Room Alert
will automatically reboot and commit your changes.
