dispayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeateast16imageframespersecond.Fumotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderabeamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexceentimagequaityandaccesstoeveryimage
containedinthestream.
H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC

H.264isaicensedtechnoogy.TheAxisproductincudesoneH.264viewingcienticense.Toinstaadditionaunicensed
copiesofthecientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionaicenses,contactyourAxisreseer.
H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequaity,reducethesizeofadigitavideoebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideoe.Orseenanotherway,highervideoquaitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

HowdoImage,Stream,andStreamproleettingrelatetoeachother?
TheImagetabcontainscamerasettingsthataffectavideostreamsfromtheproduct.Ifyouchangesomethinginthistab,it
immediateyaffectsavideostreamsandrecordings.
TheStreamtabcontainssettingsforvideostreams.Yougetthesesettingsifyourequestavideostreamfromtheproductanddon’t
specifyforexamperesoution,orframerate.WhenyouchangethesettingsintheStreamtab,itdoesn’taffectongoingstreams,but
itwitakeeffectwhenyoustartanewstream.
TheStreamprolessettingsoverridethesettingsfromtheStreamtab.Ifyourequestastreamwithaspecicstreamproe,the
streamcontainsthesettingsofthatproe.Ifyourequestastreamwithoutspecifyingastreamproe,orrequestastreamproe
thatdoesn'texistintheproduct,thestreamcontainsthesettingsfromtheStreamtab.
Bitratecontrol
Withbitratecontro,youcanmanagethebandwidthconsumptionofyourvideostream.
Variablebitrate(VR)
Withvariabebitrate,thebandwidthconsumptionvariesbasedontheeveofactivityinthescene.Themoreactivityinthescene,
themorebandwidthyouneed.Youareguaranteedconstantimagequaitybutitrequiresstoragemargins.

Withmaximumbitrate,youcansetatargetbitratetohandebitrateimitationsinyoursystem.Youmayseeadecineinimage
quaityorframeratewhentheinstantaneousbitrateiskeptbeowthespeciedtargetbitrate.Youcanchoosetoeitherprioritize
imagequaityorframerate.Werecommendthatyoucongurethetargetbitratetoahighervauethantheexpectedbitrate.This
givesyouamarginforadditionacompexitythatneedstobecaptured.

IftheIPaddressintendedforthedeviceandtheIPaddressofthecomputerusedtoaccessthe
deviceareocatedondifferentsubnets,youcannotsettheIPaddress.Contactyournetwork
administratortoobtainanIPaddress.
TheIPaddressisbeingused
byanotherdevice
DisconnecttheAxisdevicefromthenetwork.Runthepingcommand(inaCommand/DOSwindow,

CPUreachesitsmaximum,thisasoaffectstheframerate.

•Simutaneousviewingofdifferentstreams(resoution,compression)bydifferentcientsaffectsbothframerateand
bandwidth.
