Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstloin,set
upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchanethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronlyrecommendthatyou:
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Chanethepasswordatarecurrininterval,atleastonceayear.

Aprivacymaskisauser-denedareathatcoversapartofthemonitoredarea.Inthevideostream,privacymasksappeareitheras
blocksofsolidcolororwithamosaicpattern.
You’llseetheprivacymaskonallsnapshots,recordedvideo,andlivestreams.
YoucanusetheVAPIX®applicationprorammininterface(API)toturnofftheprivacymasks.
Important
Usinmultipleprivacymasksmayaffecttheproduct’sperformance.

Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lihtconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowinsettins:
•Makesurethattheexposuremodeisautomatic.
Note
Increasinthemaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Theshutterspeedshouldbeasslowaspossible,whichmeansyoushouldsetmaxshuttertothehihestpossiblevalue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimae.
•Trylowerinthemaxainvalue.
Selectexposuremode
Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andaintoimproveimaequalityfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowinexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallihtin,forexampleuorescentlihtin,selectFlicker-free.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallihtandbrihtliht,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlihtinatnihtand
sundurindaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
Maximizedetailsinanimage
Important
Ifyoumaximizedetailsinanimae,thebitratewillprobablyincreaseandyoumihtetareducedframerate.
•Setthecompressionaslowaspossible.
•SelectMJPEGstreamin.
•TurnoffZipstreamfunctionality.

Tobetterreconizethefaceofapersonpassinbythecamera,youcansettheoptimalpixelresolutionwiththecamera’spixel
counter.
1.GotoSettings>System>Orientationandclick.
2.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftherectanleinthecamera’sliveviewaroundtheareaofinterest,forexamplewhere
thefacesofpassinpersonsareexpectedtoappear.Youcanthenseethenumberofpixelsrepresentedbythesidesof
therectanle.

Youcanuseanobjectofaknownsizeintheviewasareferencetodecidehowmuchresolutionisneededforreconition.

Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth
andstoraeneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewarea,youcanpan,tiltandzoomwithinit.Byusinviewareasyoucanremoveparts
ofthefullview,forexample,thesky.

Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea
size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlarerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdiitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,
whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddinimaeinformation.
Handlesceneswithstrongbacklight
Dynamicraneisthedifferenceinlihtlevelsinanimae.Insomecasesthedifferencebetweenthedarkestandthebrihtest
areascanbesinicant.Theresultisoftenanimaewhereeitherthedarkorthebrihtareasarevisible.Widedynamicrane
(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrihtareasoftheimaevisible.

Choosevideocompressionformat
Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyourviewinrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The
availableoptionsare:
MotionJPE

ToensuresupportfortheOpusaudiocodec,theMotionJPEGstreamisalwayssentoverRTP.
MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadiitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimaes.Theseimaesarethen
displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeatleast16imaeframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimaequalityandaccesstoeveryimae
containedinthestream.
H.264orMPE-4Part10/AVC
Note
H.264isalicensedtechnoloy.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewinclientlicense.Installinadditionalunlicensed
copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.
H.264can,withoutcompromisinimaequality,reducethesizeofadiitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoraespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,hihervideoqualitycanbeachievedforaivenbitrate.
