streamproles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideoandaudiostreamsdirectly,ithoutgoingviatheLiveViepage.

H.264can,ithoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparediththeMotion
JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetorkbandidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotheray,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Decidinghichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourvieingrequirements,andonthepropertiesof
yournetork.TheavailableoptionsinAXISMediaControlare:

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orMaximumbitrate(MBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage
complexity,usingupmorebandidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforloerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin
thesceneincreases,thebitrateouldusuallyincreaseasell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandidth,thismaynotbeanissueand
selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)illbesufcient.Butifbandidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting
Maximumbitrate(MBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup
morebandidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforloersceneactivity.MBRallosyoutosetatargetbitratethat
limitsthebandidthconsumption.
TheMBRtargetbitrateorksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitsthebitrate,hilemaintainingsomeexibility.Thebitrate
maybounceupanddonithinthesettargetbuthenitnearsthesettargetvalue,thelimitationkicksin.Hoever,because
MBRillalaysprioritizeacontinuousvideostream,itallostemporaryovershootsfromthetargetbitrate.Becausesettinga
targetvaluepreventsthebitratefromincreasing,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensatefor
this,selecthichvariableshallbeprioritized,framerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateand
