Secureasswords
Important
Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstlogin,set
upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronglyrecommendthatyou:
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Changethepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.
Createanadministratoraccount
Thersttimeyoulogintoyourdevice,youmustcreateanadministratoraccount.

Imagequality
Selectexosuremode
Toimproveimagequalityforspecicsurveillancescenes,useexposuremodes.Exposuremodesletsyoucontrolaperture,shutter
speed,andgain.Gotoideo>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.
Viewarea
Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth
andstorageneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewarea,youcanpan,tiltandzoomwithinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremoveparts
ofthefullview,forexample,thesky.
Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea
size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,
whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.
Hideartsoftheimagewithrivacymasks
Youcancreateoneorseveralprivacymaskstohidepartsoftheimage.
1.Gotoideo>Privacymasks.
2.Click.
3.Clickthenewmaskandtypeaname.
4.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftheprivacymaskaccordingtoyourneeds.
5.Tochangethecolorforallprivacymasks,clickPrivacymasksandselectacolor.

Ifyoudon’tselectanautofocusarea,thecamerafocusesontheentirescene.Werecommendthatyoufocusona
staticobject.

4.Tonetunethefocus,adjustthefocusslider.
Remotefocusandzoom
Theremotefocusandzoomfunctionalityallowsyoutomakefocusandzoomadjustmentstoyourcamerafromacomputer.Itisa
convenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocus,viewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthavingtovisitthecamera’s
installationlocation.
Verifytheixelresolution
Toverifythatadenedpartoftheimagecontainsenoughpixelsto,forexample,recognizelicenseplates,youcanusethepixel
counter.

Usecorridorformattobetterutilizethefulleldofviewinalongandnarrowarea,forexampleastaircase,hallway,road,ortunnel.
1.Dependingonyourdevice,turnthecameraorthe3-axislensinthecamera90°or270°.
2.Ifthedevicedoesn’thaveautomaticrotationoftheview,gotoideo>Installation.
3.Rotatetheview90°or270°.
Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:
•Adjustthetrade-offbetweennoiseandmotionblur.Gotoideo>Image>ExposureandmovetheBlur-noisetrade-off
slidertowardLownoise.
•Settheexposuremodetoautomatic.
Note
Ahighmaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Toslowdowntheshutterspeed,setmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.
Note
Whenyoureducethemaxgain,theimagecanbecomedarker.
•Setthemaxgaintoalowervalue.
•Ifpossible,opentheaperture.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage,underideo>Image>Appearance.
