Thedepthofelddependsonthelensaperture,thesizeoftheimagesensorandthedistancetothescene.Thelowerthef-number
andlargerthesensor,theshallowerdepthofeld.Duetothelargesensor,thedepthofeldismoreshallowinthisparticular

Aboutocusandlightsensitivity
Thefocuspointisaffectedbytheaperture(f-stop)ofthelens.Thelowerthef-stopvalue,themorelightreachestheimagesensor.
Thesmallertheaperture,thedeeperdepthofeldwhichmayleadtoanunwantedabsolutefocuspoint.Duringlowlightconditions,
whentheapertureisaslargeaspossible,thedepthofelddecreasesandtheimagemaythereforeappearunfocused.

conditions,toltercertainwavelengthsortoreducereections.

Thesoftwarecontrolsthenetworkredundancyandrequiresthatbothnetworkconnectors(RJ45andSFP)areconnected.TheSFP
modulehashigherprioritythantheRJ45connector.IftheconnectionbetweentheSFPmoduleandtheswitchislosttheproduct
switchestotheRJ45connectortoestablishacontinuedconnection.
Aboutpowerredundancy
Thesoftwarecontrolsthepowerredundancy.If,forexample,theDconnectionfails,thecameraautomaticallyswitchestoPoE.
Dependingonthesetup,thecameramayrestartforthechangetotakeeffect.

applicationsarefreeandcanbedownloadedfromaxis.com/support
FormoreinformationabouthowtondandassignIPaddresses,seethedocumentHowtoassignanIPaddressandaccessyour
deviceonthedevicepageataxis.com
Accessthedevice
1.OpenabrowserandentertheIPaddressorhostnameoftheAxisdevice.
IfyouhaveaMaccomputer(OSX),gotoSafari,clickonBonjourandselectthedevicefromthedrop-downlist.Toadd
Bonjourasabrowserbookmark,gotoSafari>Preferences.
IfyoudonotknowtheIPaddress,useAXISIPUtilityorAXISDeviceManagertondthedeviceonthenetwork.

Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstlogin,set
upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronglyrecommendthatyou:
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•hangethepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.
Setasecurepasswordortherootaccount
Important
Thedefaultadministratorusernameisroot.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,resetthedevicetofactorydefaultsettings.

Acapturemodeconsistsofaresolutionandthecorrespondingframerateavailableintheproduct.Thecapturemodesetting
affectsthecamera’seldofviewandaspectratio.
Thelowerresolutioncapturemodeiscroppedoutfromthehighestresolution.
Theimageshowshowtheeldofviewandaspectratiocanchangebetweentwodifferentcapturemodes.
Selectcapturemode
Whichcapturemodetochoosedependsontherequirementsofframerateandresolutionforthespecicsurveillancesetup.For
specicationsaboutavailablecapturemodes,seetheproduct’sdatasheet.Tondthelatestversionofthedatasheet,gotoaxis.com
Choosevideocompressionormat
Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The
availableoptionsare:
MotionJPEG
MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadigitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen
displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTS)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage
containedinthestream.

H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed
copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.
H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,highervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Howtoocus
1.Logintotheproduct’swebpageandgotoSettings>Image>Focus.
2.Tosetwhichareaoftheimagethatshouldbeinfocus,clickShowAFarea.Ifyoudon’tselectanautofocusarea,the
camerafocusesontheentirescene.Itisrecommendedtofocusonastaticobject.
3.lickAutofocus.
Howtofocusmanually
Iftheautofocusdidnotworkasexpected,youcanfocusmanuallybyfollowingthesesteps:
1.Drawthefocusareaintheliveview.
2.SetExposuremodetoAutomaticshutter.
3.Toopentheirisfully,setAperturetothesmallestvalueavailableinthedrop-downlist.
4.Setliveviewmodeto1:1.
5.Fine-tunethefocususingthearrows.
6.GobacktothepreviousExposuremode.
Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:
•Makesurethattheexposuremodeisautomatic.
Note
Increasingthemaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Theshutterspeedshouldbeasslowaspossible,whichmeansyoushouldsetmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage.
•Tryloweringthemaxgainvalue.
Iftheabovesettingsdonotimprovetheimagesufciently,changetoalenswithalowerf-value.
Selectexposuremode
Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalityfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forfastmovingobjectsthatrequireafastorxedshutter,selectAutomaticaperture.
•Tomaintainalongerdepthofeldorfocusrange,selectAutomaticshutter.

•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
•Ifyouneedfullcontrolofallparameters,mostlyusefulforsceneswithlittlechangeinlighting,selectManual.
Maximizedetailsinanimage
Important
Ifyoumaximizedetailsinanimage,thebitratewillprobablyincreaseandyoumightgetareducedframerate.
•Makesuretoselectthecapturemodethathasthehighestresolution.
•Setthecompressionaslowaspossible.
•SelectMJPEGstreaming.
•TurnoffZipstreamfunctionality.
Events
Rulesandalerts
Youcancreaterulestomakeyourdeviceperformanactionwhencertaineventsoccur.Aruleconsistsofconditionsandactions.
Theconditionscanbeusedtotriggertheactions.Forexample,thedevicecanstartarecordingorsendanemailwhenitdetects
motion,orshowanoverlaytextwhenitrecords.
Triggeranaction
1.GotoSettings>System>Eventstosetuparule.Theruledeneswhenthecamerawillperformcertainactions.Rules
canbesetupasscheduled,recurring,orforexample,triggeredbymotiondetection.
2.SelecttheConditionthatmustbemettotriggertheaction.Ifyouspecifymorethanoneconditionfortherule,allofthe
conditionsmustbemettotriggertheaction.
3.SelectwhichActionthecamerashouldperformwhentheconditionsaremet.

Ifyoumakechangestoanactiverule,thentheruleneedstoberestartedforthechangestotakeeffect.

Checkthecurrentrmware
Firmwareisthesoftwarethatdeterminesthefunctionalityofnetworkdevices.Oneofyourrstactionswhentroubleshootinga
problemshouldbetocheckthecurrentrmwareversion.Thelatestversionmaycontainacorrectionthatxesyourparticular
problem.

Upgradethermware

Toresettheproducttothefactorydefaultsettings:
1.Disconnectpowerfromtheproduct.
2.Pressandholdthecontrolbuttonwhilereconnectingpower.SeeProductoverviewonpage4.
3.Keepthecontrolbuttonpressedfor15–30secondsuntilthestatusLEDindicatorashesamber.
