Whensettingtheinitialpassword,thepasswordissentincleartextoerthenetwork.Ifthereisariskofnetworksnifng,
rstsetupasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionbeforeresettingthepasswords.
Thedeicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandserices.Axis’deicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasdeicesmay
beusedinarioustypesofinstallations,buttoprotectyourdatadothefollowing:
•Don’tusethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswiththedeices.
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablyusingapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Changepasswordatarecurringinteral,atleastonceayear.
Setapassworfortherootaccount
Important
Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,thedeicemustberesetto
thefactorydefaultsettings.
Thedefaultrootaccounthasfullpriilegesandshouldbereseredforadministratietasks.Alwayscreateauseraccountwithlimited
priilegesfordailyuse.Thisreducestheexposureoftheadministratieaccount.

Aboutcapturemoes
CapturemodedenesthemaximumframerateaailableintheAxisproduct.Dependingonwhichcapturemodeyouselect,you
maynotbeabletouseWDR.
Acapturemodeconsistsofaresolutionandthecorrespondingframerateaailableintheproduct.Thecapturemodesetting
affectsthecamera’seldofiewandaspectratio.
Thelowerresolutioncapturemodeiscroppedoutfromthehighestresolution.
Theimageshowshowtheeldofviewandaspectratiocanchangebetweentwodifferentcapturemodes.

Theremotefocusandzoomfunctionalityallowsyoutomakefocusandzoomadjustmentstoyourcamerafromacomputer.Itisa
conenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocus,iewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthaingtoisitthecamera’s
installationlocation.

Howtostraightenimage
Straightenimagestraightenstheimagehorizontallybyrotatingandcroppingitdigitally.Duetothecropping,apartoftheoriginal
imageislost.Thefunctionalityisideallyusedtostraightentheimageduringinstallation.Theillustrationshowsbeforeand
afterstraightenimagehasbeenused.

Ifyouwanttohidepartsoftheimageduetopriacyreasons,useoneorseeralpriacymasks.
Whatisaprivacymask?
Apriacymaskisauser-denedareathatprohibitsusersfromiewingpartsofthemonitoredarea.Priacymasksappearasblocks
ofsolidcolororblurredimageelementsandareappliedontheideostream.
Priacymasksarepresentonallsnapshots,recordedideo,andrequestedstreams.TheycannotbebypassedthroughtheVAPIX®
applicationprogramminginterface(API).
Important
Ifyouaddmultiplepriacymasks,thismayaffecttheproduct’sperformance.
Howtocreateaprivacymask
Tocreateoreditapriacymask,gotoSettings>Privacymask.
Howtoreucenoiseinlow-lightconitions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:
•Makesurethattheexposuremodeisautomatic.
Note
Increasingthemaxshutteraluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Theshutterspeedshouldbeasslowaspossible,whichmeansyoushouldsetmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblealue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage.
HowtobenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconitionsusingnightmoe
Yourcameradelierscolorimagesduringtheday.Aslightdiminishes,youcansetthecameratoautomaticallyshifttonightmode.
Withthissettingenabled,thecameradeliersblack-and-whiteimageswiththehelpofIRlight.

Thereareseeralexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproeimagequalityfor
specicsureillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlickerfree.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Forenironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlickerreduced.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.
HowtostabilizeashakyimagewithElectronicImageStabilization(EIS)
EIScanbeusedinenironmentswheretheproductismountedinanexposedlocationandsubjecttoibrations,forexample,wind
orpassingtrafc.TurnonEIStogetasmootherandsteadierimagewithoutblur.
EISalsoreducesthelesizeofthecompressedimageandlowersthebitrateoftheideostream.
