Alwaysusethedefaultdipswitchsetting(positionB)iftherelationshipbetweendevicesinthesystemisnotdened.
ThecameraattachesaparticularVLANtagtoallitsforwardedmulticastpackages.Themediaconverterswitchmanageshowthese
multicastpackagesareforwardedbetweencameras,mediaconverterswitchesandothernetworkdevices.Thisespeciallyusefulwhen
connectingthecameraandmediaconverterswitchtothenetworkinadaisychain.
Bychangingthepositionofthedipswitches,eachnetworkconnectorportinthemediaconverterswitchcanbecongured
tomanagemulticastsinthreedifferentways.
DipswitchpositionDescription
Default(middle)BRemoveVLANtagsfromforwardedmulticastpackages.Usethissettingwhenconnectingtothe
network,directlyorthrougharouterornetworkswitch.
LeftABlockmulticastpackagesthathaveaVLANtag.Usethissettingwhenconnectingtoadevicethatis
notintendedformulticastviewing.
RightCForwardmulticastpackageswithaVLANtag.Usethissettingwhenconnectingtoanothermedia
converterswitch.
VLANtagsareusedtocreateindependentlogicalnetworks,virtuallocalareanetworks(VLANs),withinaphysicalnetwork.Multiple
mediaconverterswitchesthatareconnectedtoeachotherinadaisychainaremembersofthesameVLAN.Themediaconverter

switchestagthemulticastpackagesmovingbetweenthemsothatthenextmediaconverterswitchinlineknowsthedestinationof

camerasandmediaconverterswitchesbecauseforwardingmulticastpackageswithaVLANtagonlyservesapurposewhentheport
isconnectedtoanothermediaconverterswitch,whichmightbeconnectedtopotentialviewers.

SettheRootPassword
TogainaccesstotheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongure
RootPassworddialog,whichappearswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.
Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS
certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The
HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPS,onpage44.
Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe

TheGOVlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon
bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.
ThebitratecanbesetasVariableBitRate(VBR)orConstantBitRate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage
complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.CBRallowsyoutoseta
xedTargetbitratethatconsumesapredictableamountofbandwidth.Asthebitratewouldusuallyneedtoincreaseforincreased
