1 Introduction
1.1 Safety Aspects
The bkSpecto system complies with:
 IEC 60601-1 Edition

The bkSpecto system is classified as follows:
 Array Input Module: Type B (Body) and Type BF (Body Floating)
 ECG Input Module: Type BF (Body Floating)
1.2 Terms and Symbols Used
Throughout this manual, the following terms are used to indicate a situation where safety
precautions are required:
Warning:
Indicates a situation involving risk of injury or loss of life to personnel or patient.
Caution:
Indicates a situation involving risk of damage to the instrument or other equipment connected.

1.3 WARNINGS and CAUTIONS:
For your own and others safety please read the following carefully:
Warnings:
 Opening the instrument can expose live parts.
 Any work done on the open instrument with power on must only be done by BK
Ultrasound or their authorised representatives, who are aware of the hazards
involved.
 Any repair on the bkSpecto system must be followed by an electrical safety test to
verify a continuous safe operation of the system.
 Only the original mains cable must be used NEVER USE EXTENSION CABLES!!
 The bkSpecto system contains a Lithium battery. Under no circumstances must this
battery be removed or replaced by the user as there is danger of explosion.
 SR-w1: Service and repair of BK Medical electromedical equipment must be carried
out only by the manufacturer or its authorized representatives. BK Medical reserves
the right to disclaim all responsibility, including but not limited to responsibility for the
operating safety, reliability and performance of equipment serviced or repaired by
other parties. After service or repairs have been carried out, a qualified electrician or
hospital technician should verify the safety of all equipment.
Personal Safety:
Be aware that there may be a risk of infection due to contaminated equipment, especially
puncture guides/needles and transducers. The following precautions should be taken:
 At the hospital – before working on or receiving any equipment – ask staff to sterilize
transducers and puncture guides. Consoles must be disinfected. Hospital staff shall
follow the recommendations in the Care and Cleaning Guide.
 Use gloves when working with equipment that may be contaminated, especially if
you have open wounds or scratches.
 Equipment that may be contaminated must be sterilized before being returned to a
customer. Follow the recommendations in the Transducer User Guide.
 Always wash your hands after working with the equipment.
 If you scratch yourself on contaminated equipment, immediately contact the hospital
staff or see a doctor.
Cautions:
 Always use correct fuses.
 Switch off all equipment before connecting or disconnecting their interfaces. Failure
to do so could damage the equipment.
 The power supply cord is the means of connecting the bkSpecto system from the
main power supply.

1.4 System Overview
Figure 1-1 is an illustration of the bkSpecto system. bkSpecto is an assembly of multiple
subassemblies: engine, wheelbase, touch monitor, monitor arm, monitor, gel holder, and
transducer holders. In addition to this a variety accessories are available such as baskets,
foot switch, printer start-up kit, and extra holders.
Table 1-1 contains an overview of the bkSpecto modelversions.

Scanner Serial Number
A label similar to Figure 1-2 is located on the back of the monitor. The label contains
information about Ref. type number (1), scanner specific serial number (2), model number
(3), and production date (4).

Mechanical Parts
Section six contains information about mechanical parts including how to disassemble the
scanner step by step. Recommended tools are:
 Static control service kit.
 Torx keys: #10 and #15.
 Small slot screwdriver to remove the screw covers hiding the screws on the engine (6-
81516-01) and on the monitor.
 Spare screw covers (6-81516-01).
 Socket wrench with bit for torx #15 and socket for nut M4 hex.
 A pair of tweezers.
 Wire cutter.
 Zip ties.
Electrical Safety Test
Section seven contains information about preventative maintenance and electrical safety
test. For electrical safety test following tools are recommended:
 Medical approved safety tester and setup for probes.
 1300 Electrical Safety Test Record sheet (document number TS43494 available on
the BK Ultrasound Service Web).
Note: The equipment required to perform a Preventative Maintenance (section 7) is the same as the
equipment used in
Checking Procedure
(Section 3) and Electrical Safety Test.

2 Service Notes
To improve system performance, small changes may occasionally be made to the system
hardware and software. Information about these and other changes, as well as corrections to
this Service Manual will be released as Service Hotlines and posted to the BK Ultrasound
Service Web. A user name and password are required to access BK Ultrasound Service Web.
