Usage
The Baader S ronghold is designed, o safely and firmly
moun and fine- une auxilliary op ics ranging from ligh weigh
finder scopes o massive guiding elescopes.
Four ex erior locking screws serve o adjus he Baader
S ronghold, by means of loosening (unscrewing) one screw
and coun erlocking he opposi e one. In his way, he op ical
axis of he auxilliary Ins rumen (e.g. Vario Finder, camera
lens, spo ing scope, guiding- elescope or similar) may be
fine uned accura ely.
A s ainless-s eel locking dowel is included in he delivery of
he Baader S ronghold Tangen Assembly. In he as-
delivered condi ion, he dowel is fas ened in a springloaded
bracke inside he azimu h blocks.
Using his locking dowel, bo h he eleva ion axis and he
azimu h axis may be locked down a he final posi ion, in his
manner achieving maximum rigidi y of he sys em. For his
purpose, he dowel has o be inser ed in o he clamping-
screw (Fig. 4/4a) and urned clockwise by a few degrees. To
unlock he axis, he locking knob mus be loosened by he
same amoun prior o any readjus men .

Mounting the Stronghold onto various telescopes
How to mount onto EQ-dovetail-bar (Vixen / elestron / Baader V-dovetail-bar):
→ The EQ-clamp (included in he delivery, consis ing of wo par s) can be moun ed on o he base-pla e of he
Baader S ronghold. (In he as-delivered condi ion he EQ-clamp is moun ed on o he S ronghold op pla e.)
How to mount onto 3“ dovetail-bar (Losmandy-Style or Baader 3“ dovetail-bar):
→ A special 3“ rider clamp (#2450316) fea uring wo boreholes is required for moun ing he Baader S ronghold.
The 3“ rider clamp can be moun ed on o he S ronghold op pla e or base-pla e. Please order he 3“ rider clamp
in he special design including ma ching screws for he Baader S ronghold, by quo ing order number 2450316.
How to mount on top of 1/4“ oder 3/8“ photo thumb screws, onto tripods, etc.:
→ A ro a ing 3/8“ apered blind hole wi h a humb screw on he o her side is loca ed a he base pla e. Posi ion he
Baader S ronghold on o he 3/8“ screw of your ripod or similar and urn he 3/8“ hread using he humb knob,
un il he Baader S ronghold is a ached igh ly o he ripod head. Use he locking dowel o fully igh en he
humb knob. The same applies for 1/4“ screws - for his purpose, he reducer 3/8“ o 1/4" (included in he
delivery) mus be hreaded in o he 3/8“ apered bore hole.
How to mount using the M5 or M6 tapered holes:
→ The base pla e of he Baader S ronghold fea ures 4pc M6 and 4pc M5 apered holes for your own adap a ions.
Please no e ha screws must not be threaded down further than 6mm in o he base pla e.
Mounting of accessories and telescopes onto the top plate
Telescopes with EQ-dovetail-bars (Vixen / elestron or Baader V-bars):
→ The EQ-clamp (included in delivery) mus be moun ed on he op pla e in he same way as i comes in he as-
delivered condi ion. Using he knurled humb-screw, all adequa e EQ- or V-dove ail-bars may be fas ened wi h
he EQ-clamp of he Baader S ronghold.
Mounting of accessories like DSLR-camera, large DSLR-lenses, Spotting Scopes, etc.
using a 1/4“ photo-thread:
→ Remove he EQ-clamp off he op pla e.
Posi ion your camera or o her appliance
on o he op pla e and fas en i , using he
1/4“ humb screw which is moun ed in o
he op pla e. To fully igh en he screw,
use he locking dowel (see Fig. 5)
Using the M6 tapered holes

Maintenance and are
The Baader S ronghold Tangen Assembly is (almos ) main enance free. Af er years of in ensive use, he lubrica ing
grease may solidify a he bracke s and adjus men screws. If necessary, he grease may be changed. However, even
solidified grease will no have any significan affec on he func ion of he sys em.
The color anodizing of he S ronghold Tangen Assembly is as resis an o aging as possible using s a e-of- he-ar
me hods of elec ro-pla ing. The color, never heless, may change sligh ly if i is exposed o UV-radia ion for years. UV-
radia ion is excep ionally high if for example he Tangen Assembly is posi ioned in a window direc ed sou h in he same
se ing for years, being hea ed by he sun.
Every shop ha fea ures a window display facing he sun experiences his effec . Lea her shoes, ex iles, e c. fade wi hin
a shor period of ime – anodized me allic surfaces suffer he same effec . For his reason, mos shop windows are fi ed
wi h UV-absorbing film, o preven he displayed goods from fading wi hin a shor while. Few priva e household windows
incorpora e UV pro ec ion and we recommend ha you pro ec he Baader S ronghold from prolonged exposure o UV.
