INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONS:
The CA-5009.II isanultrasonicparking assistsystemdesignedforuseontherearbumperof
mostcarsandtrucks.Thissystemdetectsanypeopleorobjectsbehindthevehicleusing (4)
ultrasonicsensorsthataremounted intherearbumperandwarnsthedriverofthedistanceto
theobjectsthrough audibletonesusing anexternalmounted speaker.Thedrivercanthen judge
thedistanceandusecaution whenbacking up thevehicle.

INSTALLATION
INSTALLING THESENSORS
TheCA-5009.II canbeinstalled with(2)sensorsor(4)sensorsontherearbumperofthe
vehicle.(4)Sensorsarerecommended forthe bestcoveragebehindthevehicle.
1. Measureoutthedistanceacross thebumperandtrytospacethesensorsequallyapart.
Spacethesensorsatleast1-1.5feetapartfromeachotherifyouareinstalling (4)
sensorsand2-2.5feetapartfromeachotherifyouareinstalling (2)sensors.Theheight
ofthesensorsshouldbeatleast1.5–2.5feetfromthegroundtothesensorbutnoless
than1.5feet. (SeeFIGURE1) Ifyourmeasurementscomeinalittleoverthe specified
heightorwidththanthat’sfinejustaslong asthesensorsarenotspacetooclose
togetherortoo closetotheground.
2. Fortruckswithunevenbumperspacesuchaspick-up truckswithacentersteporand
licenseplateinthe middle,youcanspacethesensorsevenlyonbothsideofthecenter
stepinthebumper. (See FIGURE2) Sometruckbumpersmaybealittlehigherthan2.5
feet. Thisisnotaproblemandwill notinhibitthesystemfromworking.Thekitcomes
included withplasticmounting shimswhichwill anglethesensorsdownalittlebitifyou
havetomountthemhigherup onthebumper.Fortruckswithmetalbumpers,we
recommendusing akitcalled theCA-5009.II.MBS.Thissystemistheexactsamebut
comeswithsensorsspecificallydesignedforusewithmetalbumpers.
NOTE: Usemasking tapeorelectricaltapetomarkyourmeasurementsonthebumperfor
thesensors.Makesurethatyourmeasurementsarestraightall thewayacross thebumper
andthatthesensorshavebeen spacedevenlybeforeyoubegindrilling.
3. Usethe provided holesawbittodrill the holesinthebumper.Thisholesawbitshould
giveyou anadequatesized holetofitthesensorperfectly.Onceyouhavetheholes
drilled,routethesensorcablesthrough theholesandsnapthesensorsintoplace. (See
FIGURE3)
NOTE: Ifthesensorfitstoo tightlyintotheholethentrytodrill theholejustalittlebitwider
butnotwide enough towherethesensorisveryloose.Ifthesensoristoo tight, the system
maynotfunctionproperly.If the sensorisloose,DONOTapplyanykind ofadhesiveor
silicontoholditinplace.See ourtroubleshooting sectionformoredetails.
4. Whenplacing thesensorsintothebumper,itisimportanttonotehowtheyshouldfitinto
place.Alwaystrytoputthe sensorsonthe flattestpartofthe bumpersurfaceaiming
straightoutbehindthevehicle.Ifthesensorsareangleslightlydownwardonthebumper
thanthatisokayjustaslong astheyarenotangled extremelyup ordownindirection.If
thesensorsareangledtoofardownward,thentheywill pickup theground the systemis
onandcausefalsewarnings.Ifthesensorsareangled too farupward,thentheywill not
pickup anything becausetheyareaiming atthesky andthiswill causethesystemtofail.
NOTE: Ifyourun intoan issueduring theinstallwhereyouneedthesensorstobeangled
backup ordownorthebumpersurfaceisslightlycurved oruneven,thenyoucanusethe
providedplasticshimstoanglethe sensorsthewayyouneedthemortocompensateforthe
unevenbumpersurface. (See FIGURE4)

INSTALLATION
INSTALLINGTHESENSORCABLES
1. Routethecablesintothe trunkpanelsofthe vehicleeitherbydrilling and holeorusing a
pre-existing rubbergrommet. Ifyouhavethedrill ahole,makesuretosealtheholeonce
theinstallationiscompletetopreventleaksandkeepoutanyotherweatherelements. If
installing onatruck,routethecablesunderneaththebed ofthetruck.Pleasemakesure
toavoidanymoving partslikethesuspensionoraxels.Youmaybeabletolocatea
factorywireharness thatyoucanzip-tiethecablestoandroutethemthewholelengthof
thetruckfollowing thefactorywireharness.
2. Zip-tiethesensorcablestogethertherun themdownthelengthofthevehicle. (See
FIGURE5)
NOTE: Trytoavoidrunning thesensorcablesnexttoanyhigh-currentpowerwiresor
electricaldevicesinthevehicleasthismaycausefalsesensorwarningsduring operation of
thesystem.
INSTALLINGTHECONTROLMODULE
1. Mountthecontrolmoduleunderthevehicledashboardorbehindthetrunkpanelsinthe
rearofthecarsomewhereoutoftheway.Therearetwomethodsofinstalling thecontrol
module.One wayisbyusing theprovidedmetalmounting bracketwhichsnapsintothe
side oftheanyoneofthe3clapsonthesideofthemodule. (See FIGURE6) Theother
method istousethesupplied 3Mdoubleside tapeandstickthemoduledowntothe
surface. (See FIGURE7) Ifusing the3Mtapemethod,makesuretoclean anydustor
dirtfromthemounting surfacebeforeapplying thetape.
NOTE: Someinstallersprefertomountthecontrolmoduleinthetrunkpanelsinsteadof
underneaththedashboard.Thisisokaytodo,but pleasemakesurethatthemoduleisclear
ofanymoistureorexcessivevibrationinthetrunk.Ifinstalling themoduleunderthedash,
pleasemakesuretokeepitclearof anymoving partssuchasthesteering columnorpedals.
Thiswayyoucanavoidgetting thesensorandbuzzercablescaughtorpinched afterthe
installationiscomplete.
2. Connectthesensorcablesintothecontrolmodule.Thesensorportsonthemoduleare
labeled A,B,CandDwhichcorrespondstothesensorswhicharealsomarked A,B,C
andD.Pleasemakesuretoplug inthecorrectsensortothecorresponding sensorport.
INSTALLINGTHEAUDIBLEBUZZER
1. Usethe provided 3Mdoublesided tape tomounttheaudiblebuzzerinthevehicle. (See
FIGURE8) Youcanmountthebuzzeralmostanywhere(APillar,rearviewmirror,under
thedashboard,etc).Routethecablefromthebuzzer’smounting locationandplug itinto
thecontrolmodule
2. Thereisavolumeadjustmentonthe side ofthebuzzerthatallowsyoutoturnthesound
toahigherorlowertoneoryoucan alsoturnitcompletelyoff. (See FIGURE9) TheOFF
setting isnormallyused ifyouhaveatrailerhooked up tothevehicleanddon’twantthe
buzzertosoundconstantlywhenthevehicleisinreverse.

NOTE: Again,pleasemakesurewhenrouting thesensorandbuzzercablestothecontrol
moduletoavoidanymoving parts(Steering columnorpedals)orremovablebracketsorpanels.

INSTALLATION
WIRING
1. Connectthesensorcablesintothecontrolmodule.Thesensorportsonthemoduleare
labeled A,B,CandDwhichcorrespondstothesensorswhicharealsomarked A,B,C
andD.Pleasemakesuretoplug inthe correctsensortothe corresponding sensorport.

2. Plug thebuzzercableintotheDISP portonthecontrolmodule. (See FIGURE10)
3. Forthepowerconnector,connecttheREDwiretothe+12 voltreverselightwireofthe
vehicleandconnecttheBLACKwiretochassisground. (See FIGURE10)

OPERATION
DETECTIONRANGE
Whenthevehicleisshifted intoreverse,thesystemwill activate.Thebuzzerwill soundoff tolet
youknowthesystemisactive.Thesystemwill notsoundagainuntil sensorspickup any
objectsorpeoplethatcomeintothedetectionrange.

INTELLIGENTDETECTION
SomevehiclessuchastrucksorSUVsmayhavesparetireracksortowhitchesonthe backof
thevehiclewhichprotrudeoutoverthe rearbumper.Thiscansometimescausethe
Backstoppersystemtointerprettheseobjectsasobstructionsbehindthevehicleandgivethe
driverafalsealert. Tosolvethisproblem,theCA-5009.II hasanintelligentdetection setting
switchonthesideofthemodule. (SeeFIGURE13)
The0.0setting isforvehiclesthatdo nothavethesparetirerackortrailerhitch.Ifyourvehicle
doesnothaveanyofthisequipmentthenyoucanleavetheadjustmentat0.0.
Ifyourvehicledoeshaveasparetirerackoratrailerhitchthen youcanmovetheadjustment
switchup from0.0-0.8depending onhowfartheseitemsstickoutfromthevehicle.Each
numbertellsthesystemtostartsensing objectsanother0.5-1.0feetoutfromthebumperthus
making thesensorslookpastthe towhitchorsparetirerack.Adjustthenumberaccordingly
until the sensorsdonotfalse-triggeranylonger.Afterthesensitivityisselected on theswitch,
powerthesystemdownandback up torecalibratethe sensorsandtestthesystemforproper
functionality.

INSTALLERNOTES
Aftertheinstallation ofthesystemiscomplete,makesuretoadjustthedirection ofthesensors
tocorrectanyrange problemsyoumightbeexperiencing suchasfalsealertsorno alertsatall.
Ifneed be,theprovided plasticshimscanbeused toadjusttheangleofthesensorsonthe
bumper.Alsomakesuretoadjusttheintelligentdetectionswitchifthevehiclehasasparetire
rackortowhitchandtheunitisgiving falsealertsduetothisequipment.
1. Wheninstalling thesystem,thecarshouldbe completelypowered off.Itmightbeagood
ideatoremovethenegativebatteryterminalinsomevehiclespriortoinstallation.
2. Theoperation ofthesystemmaybeaffected bycertainconditionssuchheavyrain,
gravelroads,sloping surfaces,bushes,extremehotorcoldweatherorifthe sensorsare
covered bysnow,ice,mud,etc.
3. Otherultrasonicorelectronicfieldssuchasotherelectricaldevicesorhigh currentpower
wiresinthevehiclemayeffecttheoperationofthesensors.
4. Thesensorsshouldnotbeinstalledtoo tightlyortoo looseinthebumper
5. Donotinstall thecontrolmoduleanyotherhigh currentelectricaldevicesorwiresunder
thedashboardorinthetruck.Ifinstalling inthetrunk,makesurethecontrolmoduleis
awayfromanymoistureorweatherelements.
6. Benchtestthe systemfirsttomakesurethe operation isgoodbeforedrilling theholesin
thebumper.Oncetested andinstalled,makesuretopracticetestthesysteminaparking
lotbeforeactualuse.
7. The3Mdoubleside tape forthecontrolmoduleandbuzzercannotbeused twice.Usean
alcoholwipetomakesurethemounting surfaceiscleanbeforeuse.Ifsticking toavinyl
orcolorsurface,becautiouswhenusingalcoholwipestomakesurethesurfacedoesnot
becomedamaged ordiscolored.
8. Useonlytheprovidedholesawbittodrilltheholesforthesensors.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Pleaseread thefollowing helpfultipsifyourun intoanytroubleinstalling thissystemintothe
vehicle.Thesetipsmayalsobeusefulif theoperationofthesystemisnotfunctioning properly.
Pleasemakesurethatthesystemispowered upandworking properlybeforereading through
thesetips.Fornormaloperation,theunitshouldactivateassoonasthesystemisshiftedinto
reverse.Thebuzzershouldemitasoundtoletyouknowtheunitispowered on.
NOOPERATION:
1. Ifyoudon’thearasoundwhenthesystemispowered onorifyouknowthereisan
objectbehindthevehiclewhenitispowered on andthereisstill no sound,checkthe
powerandgroundconnectionstomakesuretheyareconnectedcorrectly.
2. Solderthepowerconnectiontothe reverselightwireifyoucan.Ifyouhavetousea
crimpconnector,makesuretheconnectorisclamped tightlyaroundthewireandthatthe
spade connectorisfitted tightlyintoplace.Also,makesureyourgroundconnection is
clean.Ifusing yourownscrewandring terminalforground,cleanthesurfacethoroughly
ofpaint, rustanddirttoassurethebestconnection
NOSOUND FROMBUZZER:
1. Makesurethevolumesetting isturned tothe LOorHIsetting onthebuzzer.Also,
doublechecktomakesurethebuzzerisplugged intothesystem.
2. Checkthebuzzercableandmakesureitisnotspliced,pinched orkinked.
3. Checktomakesuresensorcablesareconnected properlyandthatthewiresarenot
pinched orspliced anywhere
4. Checktomakesurethesensorsarenotangledtoo farup towardthesky.Ifneed be,use
theprovided shimstoanglethesensorsbackdown
5. Checkthepowerandgroundconnections
CONTINUOUS/INTERMITENTSOUNDINGFROMBUZZER:
1. Shiftthecaroutof thereverseandthenbackintoreversetopowerthesystembackup.
Thiscansometimesrecalibratethesystem.
2. Unplug eachsensorone-by-onetocheckif thesensorsarebad. Thesensorsaremarked
A,B, CandD.Un-plug eachoneandshiftthe systemintoreversewithonlyonesensor
plugged in.Thesystemshouldpickup anyobjectatleast3feetbehindthevehiclewith
onesensorplugged in.Checktomakesureall sensorsworkwhenvehicleisshiftedinto
reverse.
3. Checktomakesurethatarenoprotrusionshangingoffofthe bumperbehindthevehicle.
Ifthereis,youcan usetheintelligentdetection switchtoadjusttheunittolookbeyond
theseprotrusions.(See INTELLIGENTDETECTIONSection)

4. Checktomakesurethesensorsarenotdirtyorhaveanymud,iceorfilmoverthem.
5. Makesurethesensorcablesarenotinstalled orrannexttoanyhigh currentpowerwires
orelectricaldevicessuchasanamplifieroranyotherlighting orcontrolmodulesinthe
vehicle.AlsochecktomakesuretheBackstoppercontrolmoduleisnotnexttoanyhigh
currentdevices.
6. Removesensors,rotatethem90°andplacethembackintothebumper.Thiswill
sometimesredirectthesensorsandfixtheproblem
7. Checktomakesurethesensorsarenotinstalled too tightlyintothebumper.Iftheyare
installedtoo tightly,drill theholealittlewiderandthenresetthesensorsintothebumper.
Ifthesensorsareinstalledandaretoolooseinthebumper,DONOTapplyanykindof
siliconorgluetoholdtheminplace.Thebestthing todoistoremovethesensorand
wraptheinside partofthesensorwithafewloopsofelectricaltapeandthenplaceis
backintothebumpertosee if itfitsmoresnug.Theelectricaltapewill notcauseany
interferenceandiseasytoremoveinthefutureif need be. (See FIGURE14)

8. Sometimesthereverselightcircuitinthevehiclemaybeahuge circuit withmultiplelights
tiedintothecircuit. Thiscansometimescausefeed backintothe Backstoppersystem
whenthereverselightcircuitistied intoit.Tofixthisproblem,youcanaddanexternal
relaybetweenthereverseinputofthesystemandthereverselightwireinthecarto
isolatethesystemfromthereverselightcircuit. Usethefollowing diagram (See FIGURE
15) towireinthe relay.

9. Thesensorsmaybepicking up the ground.Usethesuppliedshimstoanglethesensors
backup alittlebittodirectthemawayfromtheground. (See FIGURE4)
10.Ifyouareinstalling onavehiclewithametalbumper(Mostlikelyatruck)thenyou may
need touseaspecificsystemforthatvehiclecalled aCA-5009.II.MBS.Thiskitisthe
exactsamesystembutcomeswithsensorsspecificallydesignedforuseonmetal
bumpers.
Pleasenotethatcertainweatherorroadconditionscansometimeshaveaneffectonthe
system’soperation aswell.Heavyrain,hail,iceandsnowcancausetheunittogivefalse
readingsaswell asextremehotorcoldweather.Falsewarningsduetoweatherconditionsare
rarebutcansometimeshappen.
Otherthingsthatcancausefalsewarningsaresmoothsloped surfaces,bushes,gravelroadsor
unevenbumpyroad surfaces.Although falsereadingsduetothesetypesofsituationsarealso
rare,theyhavebeenknowtohappen andcansometimesoccur.
