This manual contains important informaon about the assembly, operaon, and maintenance
of this pao heater. General safety informaon is presented in these rst few pages and is
also located throughout the manual. Keep this manual for future reference and to educate
new users of this product. This manual should be read in conjuncon with the labeling
on the product. Safety precauons are essenal when any mechanical or propane fueled
equipment is involved. These precauons are necessary when using, storing, and servicing.
Using this equipment with the respect and cauon demanded will reduce the possibilies of
personal injury or property damage. The following symbols shown below are used extensively
throughout this manual. Always heed these precauons, as they are essenal when using any
mechanical or fueled equipment.
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situaon
which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
Failure to comply with the precauons and instrucons
provided with this heater can result in death, serious
bodily injury and property loss or damage from hazards
of re, explosion, burn, asphyxiaon, and/or carbon
monoxide poisoning. Only persons who can understand
and follow the instrucons should use or service this
heater.

EXPLOSION - FIRE HAZARD
• Keep solid combusbles, such as building materials, paper
or cardboard, a safe distance away from the heater as
recommended by the instrucons.
• Provide adequate clearances around air openings into the
combuson chamber.
• Never use the heater in spaces which do or may contain
volale or airborne combusbles, or products such
as gasoline, solvents, paint thinner, dust parcles or
unknown chemicals.
• During operaon, this product can be a source of ignion.
Keep heater area clear and free from combusble
materials, gasoline, paint thinner, cleaning solvents and
other ammable vapors and liquids. Do not use heater in
areas with high dust content. Minimum heater clearances
from combusble materials: three (3) feet from the sides
& two (2) feet from the top.

• Never store propane near high heat, open ames, pilot
lights, direct sunlight, other ignion sources or where
temperatures exceed 120 degrees F (49°C).
• Propane vapors are heavier than air and can accumulate
in low places. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately.
• Never install or remove propane cylinder while heater is
lighted, near ame, pilot lights, other ignion sources or
while heater is hot to touch.
• This heater is red hot during use and can ignite
ammables too close to the burner. Keep ammables at
least 3 feet from sides & 2 feet from top. Keep gasoline
and other ammable liquids and vapors well away from
heater.
• Store the propane cylinder outdoors in a well venlated
space out of reach of children. Never store the propane
cylinder in an enclosed area (house, garage, etc.). If heater
is to be stored indoors, disconnect the propane cylinder
for outdoor storage.
We cannot foresee every use which may be made of our
heaters. Check with your local re safety authority if you have
quesons about heater use. Other standards govern the use of
fuel gases and heat producing products for specic uses. Your
local authories can advise you about these. If no local codes
exist, follow Naonal Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1. In Canada,
installaon must conform to local codes. If no local codes
exist, follow the current Naonal standards of CANADA CAN/
CGA-B 149.2.

Certain materials or items, when stored under the heater
will be subjected to radiant heat and could be seriously
damaged.

SERVICE SAFETY
• Keep all connecons and ngs clean. Make sure
propane cylinder valve outlet is clean.
• During set up, check all connecons and ngs for
leaks using soapy water. Never use a ame.
• Use as a heang appliance only. Never alter in any way
or use with any device.

which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate
personal injury or property damage.
CAUTION
• This product is fueled by propane gas. Propane gas
is invisible, odorless, and ammable. An odorant
is normally added to help detect leaks and can be
described as a “roen egg” smell. The odorant can
fade over me so leaking gas is not always detectable
by smell alone.
• Propane gas is heavier than air and leaking propane
will sink to the lowest level possible. It can ignite by
ignion sources including matches, lighters, sparks
or open ames of any kind many feet away from the
original leak. Use only propane gas set up for vapor
withdrawal.
• Store or use propane gas in compliance with local
ordinances and codes or with ANSI/NFPA 58. Turn o
propane when not in use.
WARNING
• Alert children and adults to the hazards of high surface
temperatures. Stay away from these surfaces to avoid
burning skin or igning clothing.
• Carefully supervise young children when in the vicinity of
the heater.
• Do not hang clothing or any other ammable materials
from the heater, or place on or near the heater.
• Replace any guard or protecve device removed for
servicing the appliance prior to placing back in service.
• Installaon and repair should be done by a qualied
service person. The heater should be inspected before
use and annually by a qualied service person.
• More frequent cleaning may be required as necessary. It
is imperave that the control compartment, burners, and
circulang air passageway of the appliance be kept clean.

Before beginning assembly of product, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts with
package contents list and hardware contents above. If any part is missing or damaged, do not
aempt to assemble the product. Contact customer service for replacement parts.

3. Unsrew any pre installed (M3/16)
screws(AA) first. Assemble the four
lower supports (H) to the base (J) and
middle plate(F)using the (M3/16)
screws (AA).
4.Unsrew any pre installed (M3/16)
screws(AA) first. Assemble the four upper
supports (C) to the lower supports (H)
using the (M3/16) screws (AA).
The damper (B) is then assembled to the
upper supports (C) using the (M3/16)
screws (AA).

screws (AA) rst. Assemble the four
lower supports (H) to the base (J) and
middle plate (F) using the (M3/16)
screws (AA).

upper supports (C) to the lower
supports (H) using the (M3/16) screws
(AA). The damper (B) is then assembled
to the upper supports (C) using the
(M3/16) screws (AA).

5. Unscrew(M3/16) 4pcs screws from the
bottom of the middle plate(F). Install an
AA battery(EE) into the control box.
Assemble the control box(K) onto the bottom
of middle plate using the (M3/16) screws.
Note : The control knob is to face to the front
of the heater where the magnet is installed in
the middle plate.

Screw the winning screws,washers and
the winning nuts to assemble the reflector(A)
into the damper(B).
5. Unscrew (M3/16) 4pcs screws from the
boom of the middle plate (F). Install
an AA baery (EE) into the control
box. Assemble the control box (K) onto
the boom of middle plate using the
(M3/16) screws. Note: The control
knob is to face to the front of the
heater where the magnet is installed in
the middle plate.

6. Screw the winning screws, washers
and the winning nuts to assemble the
reector (A) into the damper (B).

7. Carefully install the glass tube (E) by lifting
up and inserting through the center hole in
the upper plate. Ensure the rubber ring(GG)
is attached to the lower edge of the glass tube
as illustrated. Slide the glass tube through the
hole of the lower plate cover and onto the
middle plate. Check and ensure that
the glass tube is positioned properly and is
completely covering the center hole of the
middle plate.
8. Attach the wire guards(D) onto the heater
by inserting the hooks into the holes on the
frame, (ensure that all of the hooks engage).
Unscrew 4pcs screws from damper
Using the (M3/16) screws secure the guards
in place by fastening the fixing brackets (BB)
to the top of the upper plate and over top of
the guards as illustrated. Repeat this
procedure until all guards are installed.
WARNING! The rubber
ring must be in place
prior to operating the heater.
To aid in installation
place rubber
ring(GG) on the
middle plate and
then install glass tube.
Ensure the rim of
the glass tube sits
firmly in the rubber
ring.

7. Carefully install the glass tube (E) by
liing up and inserng through the
center hole in the upper plate. Ensure
the rubber ring (GG) is aached to
the lower edge of the glass tube as
illustrated. Slide the glass tube through
the hole of the lower plate cover and
onto the middle plate. Check and
ensure that the glass tube is posioned
properly and is completely covering
the center hole of the middle plate.
8. Aach the wire guards (D) onto the
heater by inserng the hooks into
the holes on the frame (ensure that
all of the hooks engage). Unscrew
4pcs screws from damper using the
(M3/16) screws, secure the guards
in place by fastening the xing
brackets (BB) to the top of the upper
plate and over top of the guards as
illustrated. Repeat this procedure
unl all guards are installed.

9. Attach the three side panels (G) tothe
heater using the (M3/16) screws (AA).
Note :
1. M3/16 screws from Step 3 unscrewed
from lower supports.
2.Do not cover the front side where
the control knob is.
10. Screw the knob (CC) onto the front panel
(I). Attach the panel tothe heater by inserting
the two tabs into the slots on the base (J).
Hook the chain (which is preassembled
onto the front panel) into the hole in the front
of the control box. The chain will keep the
panel from falling forward while lighting
/operating your heater.

the purpose of input adjustment for propane gas.
Storage of an appliance indoors is permissible only if
the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the
appliance.Acylinder must be stored outdoors in a
well-ventilated area out of the reach of children. A
disconnected cylinder must have dust caps tightly
installed and must not be stored in a building, garage
or any other enclosed area. The minimum permissible
gas supply pressure of 10 W.C. is required for purpose
of input adjustment. The minimum hourly of 17000Btu
is required input rating for a heater for automatic
operation at ratings less than full input rating. The
pressure regulator and hose assembly supplied with
the appliance must be used. The installation must
conform with local codes, or in the absence of local
codes,with national fuel gas code, ANSI Z223.1
/NFPA54, natural gas and propane Installation Code,
CSA B149.1, or propane storage and handling code,
B149.2.

A dented, rusted or damaged propane cylinder may be
hazardous and should be checked by your cylinder
supplier. Never use a propane cylinder with a damaged
valve connection.
The propane cylinder must be constructed and marked
in accordance with the specifications for LP gas
cylinders of the U.S. Department of Transportation
(DOT) or the standard for cylinders, spheres and
tubes for transportation of dangerous goods and
commission, CAN/CSA-B339.
The cylinder must have a listed overfilling prevention
device.
The cylinder must have a connection device compatible
with the connection for the appliance.
The cylinder used must include a collar to protect the
cylinder valve.
Never connect an unregulated propane cylinder tothe
heater.
Attach regulator tocylinder.Complete attachment.
Install cylinder.
Do not store a spare LP-gas cylinder under or near this appliance;
Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full;
“Place the dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet whenever the cylinder is not
in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the cylinder valve that is provided with
the cylinder valve. Other type of caps or plugs may result in leakage of propane.”

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
LEAK CHECK
1. Make 2-3 oz. of leak check soluon (one part liquid dishwashing detergent and three parts
water).
2. Apply several drops of soluon where hose aaches to regulator.
3. Apply several drops of soluon where regulator connects to cylinder.
4. Make sure all pao heater and light valves are OFF.
5. Turn cylinder valve ON.
If bubbles appear at any connecon, there is a leak.
1. Turn cylinder valve OFF.
2. If leak is at hose/regulator connecon: ghten connecon and perform another leak test. If
bubbles connue appearing, the hose should be returned to the place of purchase.
3. If leak is at regulator/cylinder valve connecon: disconnect, reconnect, and perform another
leak check. If you connue to see bubbles aer several aempts, cylinder valve is defecve
and should be returned to cylinder’s place of purchase. If NO bubbles appear at any
connecon, the connecons are secure. NOTE: Whenever gas connecons are loosened or
removed, you must perform a complete leak test.
4. Complete installaon.

Leak Check
1. Make 2-3 oz. of leak check solution (one part liquid dishwashing detergent and three parts water).
2. Apply several drops of solution where hose attaches to regulator.
3. Apply several drops of solution where regulator connects to cylinder.
4. Make sure all patio heater and light valves are OFF.
5. Turn cylinder valve ON.
If bubbles appear at any connection, there is a leak.
1. Turn cylinder valve OFF.
2. If leak is at hose/regulator connection: tighten connection and perform another leak test. If bubbles
continue appearing, the hose should be returned to the place of purchase.
3. If leak is at regulator/cylinder valve connection: disconnect, reconnect, and perform another leak
check. If you continue to see bubbles after several attempts, cylinder valve is defective and should be
returned to cylinder’s place of purchase.
If NO bubbles appear at any connection, the connections are secure.
NOTE: Whenever gas connections are loosened or removed, you must perform a complete leak test.

Leak Check
1. Make 2-3 oz. of leak check solution (one part liquid dishwashing detergent and three parts water).
2. Apply several drops of solution where hose attaches to regulator.
3. Apply several drops of solution where regulator connects to cylinder.
4. Make sure all patio heater and light valves are OFF.
5. Turn cylinder valve ON.
If bubbles appear at any connection, there is a leak.
1. Turn cylinder valve OFF.
2. If leak is at hose/regulator connection: tighten connection and perform another leak test. If bubbles
continue appearing, the hose should be returned to the place of purchase.
3. If leak is at regulator/cylinder valve connection: disconnect, reconnect, and perform another leak
check. If you continue to see bubbles after several attempts, cylinder valve is defective and should be
returned to cylinder’s place of purchase.
If NO bubbles appear at any connection, the connections are secure.
NOTE: Whenever gas connections are loosened or removed, you must perform a complete leak test.

Informaon in this manual and all assembly is complete and leak checks have been performed.
• CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARD
• For outdoor use only. Never use inside house, or
other unvenlated or enclosed areas. This heater
consumes air (oxygen). Do not use in unvenlated or
enclosed areas to avoid endangering your life.
WARNING
Before Turning Gas Supply ON:
1. Your heater was designed and approved for outdoor use only. Do NOT use it inside a
building, garage, or any other enclosed area.
2. Make sure surrounding areas are free of combusble materials, gasoline, and other
ammable vapors or liquids.
3. Ensure that there is no obstrucon to air venlaon. Be sure all gas connecons are ght
and there are no leaks.
4. Be sure the cylinder cover is clear of debris. Be sure any component removed during
assembly or servicing is replaced and fastened prior to starng.
Before Lighng:
1. Heater should be thoroughly inspected before each use, and by a qualied service person at
least annually. If relighng a hot heater, always wait at least 5 minutes.
2. Inspect the hose assembly for evidence of excessive abrasion, cuts, or wear. Suspected areas
should be leak tested. If the hose leaks, it must be replaced prior to operaon. Only use the
replacement hose assembly specied by manufacturer.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
Check and ensure that an AA baery is inside the ignion
chamber and has power.
Ensure the anode(+) faces outside.
1. Ensure that the control knob is OFF. Slowly open the
gas cylinder valve.
2. Press and turn the control knob to LIGHT posion,
push the igniter to generate spark while keeping
control knob in pressed posion
3. Check for pilot ame through glass tube. If pilot does not light, turn control knob to ‘OFF’
posion wait two minutes minimum and try again from the start. Several aempts may be
necessary.

4. If the pilot lights, keep control knob pressed for 15 seconds then
turn the control knob to ‘LOW’.
5. For maximum heat, turn control knob to ‘HIGH’.
6. To turn heater o, turn control knob to ‘OFF’.
7. Close the vlave of the gas cylinder or the regulator aer use.

maintenance activities on a regular basis:
● Keep exterior surfaces clean.
-Use warm soapy water for cleaning. Never use flammable, corrosive or abrasive cleaners.
-While washing your unit, be sure to keep the area around the burner and pilot assembly dry at all
time. If the gas control is exposed to water in any way, do NOT try to use it. It must be replaced.
● After a long break from operation, the unit should be inspected for spiders, spider webs or other
insects.
● Air flow must be unobstructed. Keep controls. Burner and circulating air passageways clean.
Signs of possible blockage include:
-Gas odour with extreme yellow tipping of flame.
-Heater does NOT reach the desired temperature.
-Heater glow is excessively uneven.
-Heater makes popping noises.
● Spider and insects can nest in burner or orifices.
This dangerous condition can damage heater and render it unsafe for use. Clean burner holes by
using a heavy-duty pipe cleaner.
Compressed air may help clear away smaller particles.
● Carbon deposits may create a fire hazard. Clean reflector and glass tube inside with soapy water
if any carbon deposits develop. Always be careful when cleaning the glass tube.

• Store heater upright in an area sheltered away from weather condions (such as rain, sleet,

• If desired, cover heater to protect exterior surfaces and to help prevent dust and debris
collecng in air passages.
During periods of extended inacvity or when transporng:
• Turn the control knob to “OFF” posion.
• Disconnect LPG Cylinder and move to a secure, well-venlated locaon outdoors. DO NOT
store in a locaon that will exceed 50 degrees C (122°F).
• Store heater upright in an area sheltered away from weather condions (such as rain, sleet,
hail, snow).
• If desired, cover heater to protect exterior surfaces and to help prevent dust and debris
collecng in air passages.
FOR YOUR SAFETY:
• DO NOT touch or move heater for at least 45 minutes
aer use.
• Allow all burner elements to cool before touching.
WARNING
In a salt-air environment (such as near an Ocean)
corrosion occurs more quickly than normal.
• Frequently check for corroded areas and repair them
promptly.
• Wait unl heater is cool before covering.

Backyard Pro warrants its equipment to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 30 days. This is the
sole and exclusive warranty made by Backyard Pro covering your Backyard Pro brand equipment. A claim under this warranty
must be made within 30 days from the date of purchase of the equipment. Only the equipment’s original purchaser may make
a claim under this warranty. Backyard Pro reserves the right to approve or deny the repair or replacement of any part or repair
request. The warranty is not transferable.
