Safety recautions
The coin operated timers of the EMS-56/57 series are built by the state of technology and
the generally accepted safety-related rules. Nevertheless there may occur risks for the user
or other persons as well as impairments of the device or other values. Use the device only
under faultless conditions, as well as due, safety- and risk-conscious regarding the user
manual!
Especially eliminate faults, that may impair safety, immediately! Keep the user manual
always on site of the device! Pay attention - additional to the user manual- to the general
valid legal and other obligatory rules such as accident prevention and environmental
protection! Do not make any changes and/or modifications without the authorization of
the manufacturer. Spare parts have to correspond to the manufacturer-defined standards.
This is only guaranteed, if original spare parts are used. Maintain the required or within this
manual stated deadlines for repeating maintenance intervals! Provide a safe and non-
polluting disposal of plastic or electrical replacement parts!
This coin operated timers are exclusive designed for managing different electric devices in
rooms. Any other or further use is not provided. The manufacturer is not liable for losses,
that result from misuse. A due use contains to heed the user guide and to observe the
terms of service and maintenance as well.
Installation and maintenance
Mounting the EMS-56/57
The unit is provided for fixed wiring and assembly in rooms. For fixing the device there are
three drillings with a diameter of 6 mm at the back side. It must be taken care, that the case
is mounted vertically, otherwise a proper operation of the coin selector may be reduced.
The EMS-56/57 has to be mounted at a solid wall in order to avoid heavy vibrations.

Electrical installation
CAUTION:
The installation has to be effected by authorised staff only!
Please arrange that the assembly is carried out by a specialist
electronic company.
The installation of the EMS-56/57 is limited to the connection of the mains and the two
switched outputs for the relay and the ventilation, according to the connection survey
pinned within the device. Note that all wires are fitting exactly into the ISO box.
Maintenance
The units of the EMS-56/57 series are nearly maintenance-free. Merely the coin selector has
to be cleaned now and then in order to guarantee a proper operation.

O eration
After final programming (see section Programming on page 7) a time-sale can be
implemented. The LED-display informs the customer about the present state.
Selling time with the EMS-56
The EMS-56 only displays the number of inserted coins. The customer will not receive any
direct information about the bought time. If a coin is inserted into the EMS-56, the display
shows “1”.The output however will only be released, if the minimum insertion has been
reached. A blinking display signals, that the minimum insertion has not been reached yet.
The display will increase by one until an amount of 9 coins is reached. Furthermore it is
possible to insert more coins until the maximum time of 999 minutes is reached. An
insertion of more than 9 coins is indicated by the glowing dot mark.
CAUTION:
Coins that are inserted after the maximum time of 999 minutes
has already been reached will not get rated.
In the course of time the display will decrease by one every time a coin runs out (remaining
number of coins less than nine). If the complete time has run out, the display changes to “0”
and the output will be blocked.
Selling time with the EMS-57
The EMS-57 displays the remaining time until the output will be blocked. If a coin is
inserted, the released time will be displayed. The output however will only be released, if
the minimum insertion is reached. A blinking display signals, that the minimum insertion
has not been reached yet. An insertion of further coins increases the displayed time by the
programmed amount. This may be repeated until the maximum time of 999 minutes is
reached.

CAUTION:
Coins that are inserted after the maximum time of 999 minutes
has already been reached will not get rated.
During the course of time the dot mark will blink and the displayed time runs down. During
the last minute, the display changes and the remaining time will be displayed in seconds.
If the complete time has run out, the display changes to “0” and the output will be blocked.
Door o ener (o tional feature)
The door opener is available as an optional feature. Some washing machines or dryers need
power in order to open the door. In order to support this devices, the EMS-56-TE/EMS-57-TE
owns a push button at the front side. By pressing this button, the output will be released
for 10 seconds. During this time the door of respective device can be opened. This feature
will work even if there are no coins inserted. This process can be repeated up to three
times, then it will be blocked for one minute. After this time, the door opener will work
three times again.
Programming
CAUTION:
In order to program the EMS-56/57 the ISO case within the EMS-56/57 has to
be opened . Since there is high voltage behind the cover the EMS-56/57 must
be separated from line voltage first.
For programming the EMS-56/57, 8 DIP-switches are available at the electronic-PCB
(See: Figure 2 : Connection layout). The DIP-switches 1 to 5 are responsible for the
basic time, DIP-switch 6 is responsible for the time factor and the DIP-switches 7 and
8 are responsible for the minimum insertion.
Basic time
The basic time indicates the time in minutes, that will be released per every single coin.
If needed, this time can be multiplied by factor 10 with DIP-switch 6 set to “ON”.
You can either program the basic time according to Figure 3 : Basic time programming
or calculate it according to Table 1: Basic Time DIP-switch settings.
Figure 3 : Basic time programming
If you want to set a value, that is not mentioned in the table, you can calculate every
value yourself. For the minimum time of 1 minute, all DIP-switches have to be set to "OFF".
The missing time can be added by setting the respective DIP-switches to "ON".
For this purpose, the DIP-switches have different valences. Please gather the respective
valences out of the following table:

2 2 OFF 0
3 ON
8 OFF 0
5 16 ON 16

Table 2: Example for the time -setting
Time-factor
In order to program time-periods of more than 32 minutes, you have to set the
DIP-switch 6 to “ON” to activate the time-factor. This will multiply the time by factor 10.
In the example above, you will get a time of 220 minutes per coin.
Minimum insertion
For the minimum insertion, the DIP-switches 7 and 8 are responsible. The minimum
insertion indicates the minimum number of coins, that have to be inserted at least.
The minimum insertion has to be programmed referring to Figure : Minimum insertion.
