Important Safety Instructions:

The new BS-371 Expandable Cordless Additional Handset is for use with the BS-373
Expandable Cordless S stem . You m ust have the BS-373 Expandable Cordless
S stem in order to use the BS-371 Expandable Cordless Additional Handset.
This manual onl described the steps necessar to start up the BS-371 expandable
cordless additional handset. Please read the m anual of BS-373 Expandable
Cordless S stem for detailed operating instruction.
BS-371 consists of the following item s:
• A Handset with Belt Clip
• A Charging Cradle
• A Batter Pack
• Installation Manuals
Setup of the BS-371 Expandable Cordless dditional Handset
1. Connect the Charging Cradle to a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
2. Press the batter release point on the back of the handset and slide downward to
open the batter com partm ent.
3. Insert the batter pack into the batter com partm ent and m ake sure to position
according to polarit m arkings.
4. Slide the batter cover upward until it snaps into place.
5. Place the handset in the Charging Cradle, charge the batter pack for at least 15
hours prior to registering the handset to ou BS-373. Make sure that the red
LED of the Charging Cradle lights, and charging begins.
Note:
1. Use onl the batter indicated in this m anual. Do not dispose of batteries in a
fire. The m a explode. Check with local codes for possible special disposal
instructions.
2. Connect the Recharge Cradle to a continuous power outlet.
3. Plug the Recharge Cradle to the socket-outlet that near the equipm ent and shall
be easil accessible.
4. fter initial charge: To enhance batter life and telephone perform ance,
com pletel charge and then com pletel discharge the batteries before returning
the handsets to the charging cradle. This will extend our batter life allowing
longer talk-tim e and stand-b .
Registration of BS-371 Expandable Cordless dditional Handset
Your new BS-371 handset m ust be registered to the BS-373 base unit. The handset
will be assigned an extension num ber at registration, “HS-1” to “HS-8”, which will be
shown on the displa .

On the Base Unit:
Press [MENU] and “REGISTRATION” appears on the
displa .
Press [O.K.] and “W AITING REGISTER” is displa ed.
You are now read to register our handset.
Note: The base unit will return to standb m ode if no
handset registration takes place within 25 seconds.
On the Handset:
After the handset is charged, rem ove it from the
recharge cradle. “HS_ _” is displa ed
Press [MENU] and “REGISTRATION” appears on
the displa .
Press [O.K.] and select “ADD A H ANDSET?”.
Press [O.K.] to register and “CONNECTING” is
displa ed for 1 to 2 seconds.
If the handset displa s “REG OK NEW ID=2”, the
connection with the base unit is established.
If the handset displa s “NO CONNECTION”, repeat
the above steps all over again.
The handset will return to “REGISTRATION” after 2
seconds. Press [EXIT] to end the registration.
You are now ready to use your new handset

Answering a call Auto-answer is the default m ode setting of the
phone:
If the handset is on the charge cradle, just lift the
handset and the line is autom atically connected.
If the phone is set to Manual-answer m ode, or
whenever the handset is not on the charge cradle,
to answer a call:
1. Press a LINE key or [Spk.] on the handset or
press a LINE key on the base unit

display to pick up a call

To hang up, press [Bye] on the handset or base
unit or return the handset to charge cradle.

Last num ber redial 1. Press a LINE key and listen for dial tone.
2. Press [Redial] to dial the last dialed num ber.

2. Use [ ] / [▲ ] scroll keys to access desired
num ber from the list of up to 20 last dialed

Before calling for service, please check this list of the most com mon pro lem s.

Are the LINE CORD and AC adapter connected properly?
Is the handset too far away from the ase unit?
Is the attery pack weak? Charge the attery on the ase
unit for a out 15 hours.
The phone does not ring
Check the RINGER setting.
Cannot dial
Do you have touch-tone service?
Check the TONE/PULSE setting.
The audio sounds scratchy
Is the ase unit located next to m etal o jects or
appliances? Try relocation.
CALLER ID doesn’t work
Do you have CALLER ID service?

The following suggestions will help you care for the system so you can enjoy it for
years.
Keep the system dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry im m ediately.
Liquids m ight contain m inerals that can corrode the electronic
circuits.
Use and store the system only in norm al tem perature envi-
ronm ents. Tem perature extrem es can shorten the life of
electronic devices, and distort or m elt plastic parts.
Handle the system gently and carefully. Dropping it can
dam age circuit oards and cases and can cause the system
to work im properly.
Keep the system away from excessive dust and dirt, which
can cause prem ature part wear.
W ipe the system with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it
looking new. Do not use harsh chem icals, cleaning solvents,
or strong detergents to clean the system .
Modifying or tam pering with the system ’s internal com ponents can ca se a
m alf nction and m ight invalidate the system ’s warranty and void yo r FCC
a thorization to operate it.
