CIAO AT C.S.I.
7
The burner switches on only if the air relief phase is nished.
The correct operation of the external probe (supplied as an accessory)
is fundamental for good climatic control operation.
3.10 Draining the heating system (fig. 23)
To empty the system, proceed as follows:
- switch off the boiler
- loosen the boiler drain valve (C)
- drain the lowest points of the system.
3.11 Draining the domestic hot water system (fig. 23)
When there is risk of frost, the domestic hot water system must be
emptied in the following way:
- turn off the main water supply tap
- turn on all the hot and cold water taps
- drain the lowest points.
When carrying out the discharge of the safety valve (D), it
must be connected to a suitable collection system. The man-
ufacturer is not responsible for possible damages due to
safety valve operation.
4 - IGNITION AND OPERATION
4.1 Preliminary checks
 W
hen the boiler is rst started the siphon for collecting the conden-
sate is empty. it is therefore indispensable to create a head of water
lling the siphon before starting up, following these instructions:
• remove the siphon by releasing it from the plastic pipe connect-
ing to the combustion chamber
• fill the siphon about 3/4” full with water, making sure it is free of
any impurities
• check the float of the plastic cylinder
• put back the siphon, being careful not to empty it, and secure it
with the clip.
The plastic cylinder inside the siphon has the job of preventing com-
bustible gas coming out into the surroundings if the appliance is start-
ed without first creating the head of water in the siphon. Repeat this
operation during routine and extraordinary maintenance operations.
Before starting up the boiler, check:
a) that the supply networks data (electric, water, gas) corresponds to
the label data
b) that piping leaving the boiler is covered by thermal insulation
sheath
c) that flue gas extraction and air suction pipes work correctly
d) that conditions for regular maintenance are guaranteed if the boil-
er is placed inside or between furniture
e) the seal of the fuel adduction system
f) that fuel capacity corresponds to values requested by the boiler
g) that the fuel supply system has the correct capacity for the neces-
sary capacity to the boiler and that it has all the safety and control
devices prescribed by current regulations.
4.2 Appliance ignition
To start up the boiler it is necessary to carry out the following operations:
- power the boiler
- turn on the gas tap to allow fuel ow
- set the room thermostat to the required temperature (~20°C)
- turn the mode selector to the required position:
Winter: turn the function selector in the area marked with + and - (g.
24b) to obtain DHW and heating. In case of a heat request, the boiler
will switch on and the digital display will show the temperature of the
heating water, the heating mode icon and the ame icon (g. 25).
In case of a request for domestic hot water, the display (1 - g. 3) will
show the temperature of the domestic water, the DHW mode icon and
the ame icon (g. 26).
Adjustment of the heating water temperature
To adjust the heating water temperature, turn the knob with the
symbol (g. 27) clockwise in the area marked with + and -.
Summer:turn the selector onto the summer symbol (g. 24a) to
activate the traditional function of domestic hot water only. In the case
of a request for domestic hot water, the display will show the temper-
ature of the domestic water, the DHW mode icon and the ame icon
(g. 26).
Pre-heating (faster hot water): turn the domestic water temperature
adjustment knob (g. 29) onto the symbol to activate the pre-heating
function. The display will show the xed symbol. Bring the domestic
hot water temperature adjustment knob back to the required position.
This function keeps the water in the domestic hot water exchanger hot,
to reduce standby times when a request is made. The display indicates
the outlet temperature of the heating water or the domestic hot water
based upon the request in progress. During burner ignition following a
pre-heating request, the display shows the ashing symbol and the
ame icon (g. 30). To deactivate the pre-heating function, rotate the
domestic hot water temperature adjustment knob back to the symbol
. Bring the domestic hot water temperature adjustment knob back to
the required position. This function cannot be activated when the boiler
is OFF: function selector on OFF (g. 34).
Adjusting the domestic hot water temperature
To adjust the domestic water temperature (bathrooms, showers, kitch-
en, etc.), turn the knob with the symbol (g. 28) in the area marked
with + and -. The boiler remains in standby until the burner ignites in
response to a heat request. The display shows the domestic water
temperature, the DHW mode icon and the ame icon (g. 26). The
boiler continues to function until the temperatures set on the boiler are
reached, or the heat request terminates; it will then go back to standby.
If the digital display shows the icon and an alarm code, this means
the boiler is in a temporary stop condition (see the "Operating status
and faults" chapter) (g. 31).
Environment Automatic Adjustment System function (S.A.R.A.)
By setting the heating water temperature selector in the area marked
with AUTO (g. 32) (temperature value from 55 to 65°C), the S.A.R.A.
self-adjusting system is activated: the boiler varies the delivery tem-
perature according to the closing signal of the ambient thermostat.
When the temperature set with the heating water temperature selec-
tor is reached, a 20-minute count begins. If the ambient thermostat
still requests heat during this period, the value of the set temperature
automatically increases by 5°C. When the new value is reached, an-
other 20-minute count begins. If the ambient thermostat still requests
heat during this period, the value of the set temperature automatically
increases by 5°C.
This new temperature value is the result of the temperature set man-
ually with the heating water temperature selector and the increase of
+10°C of the S.A.R.A function.
After the second cycle the temperature value should be kept at the set
value +10°C until the request of the ambient thermostat is met.
Reduced Condensation Formation function
If you want to reduce the formation of condensation, follow the
instructions below:
- position the selectors for adjusting the temperature of the domestic
hot water and the heating water in the zone marked with "FCR" (re-
duced condensation formation) (g.33).
The closer the selector nears the maximum value that can be set, the
less condensation is produced.
4.3 Switching off
Temporary switch-off
In the event of short periods of absence, set the function selector to
(OFF) (g. 34). The display will switch off.
In this way (leaving the electricity and fuel supplies enabled), the boiler
is protected by the following systems:
- Heating anti-freeze: this function is activated if the temperature
measured by the delivery probe drops below 5°C. In this phase, the
circulator is activated. If the boiler is not in lockout, the burner is also
activated at minimum output until the delivery water temperature
reaches 35°C.
During the anti-freeze cycle, the symbol (fig. 35) appears on the
digital display.
- DHW anti-freeze: the function is activated if the temperature
measured by the domestic water probe drops below 5°C. In this
phase, the circulator is activated. If the boiler is not in lockout, the
burner is also activated at minimum output until the delivery water
temperature reaches 55°C.
During the anti-freeze cycle, the symbol appears on the digital
display (fig. 35).
- Circulator anti-blocking: an operation cycle is activated every 24
hours after the last heat request.
