SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
These operating instructions serve as a basis for using and operating the device in
a safe manner. These operating instructions, in particular the safety notes, must be
observed by all users. Please observe possible restrictions due to applicable coun-
try-specific laws. The user is responsible for proper and safety-compliant installa-
tion and use. No liability is accepted for damage caused during installation or use.
The system is intended for use on vehicles with combustion engines. Cor-
rect function cannot be guaranteed for other applications, opera-
tion is at the user‘s own risk and to the exclusion of any warranty.
Installation and operation must be carried out in accordance with these operating ins-
tructions and the intended use. In the event of improper use or non-observance of the-
se operating instructions, no liability will be accepted for any damage that may occur.

Work on the motorcycle‘s electrical system may only be carried out with the power sup-
ply disconnected (battery disconnected). If not all electrical plug connections are correctly
connected when the voltage supply is restored, this can lead to an error message or mal-
function on the motorcycle.

Temperature detection
The CUMPAN has two separate temperature detections:
1. The ambient temperature
»Sensor integrated in the supply line of the device, approx. 40mm from the
housing away
»Adjustable temperature warner warns of icy conditions
2. The engine temperature
»Sensor included in scope of delivery
»Recording of the engine temperature either at the oil/cooling water circuit or
engine housing
»Adjustable temperature warner warns of overheating
RPM detection and shift flash
The speed is determined and evaluated via the so-called „crankshaft position sen-
sor“. In every modern combustion engine, the position of the crankshaft must be per-
manently determined in order to coordinate ignition timing and injection. Therefo-
re, all the necessary data is already available. All that needs to be done is to tap the
signal cable of the installed sensor. The electronics of the vehicle are not affected.
A list with connection examples can be found on our website. This list will be extended
continuously. The one-time adjustment to the correct sensor is done in the menu of the
CUMPAN. This is done by increasing or decreasing the number of „pulses per crankshaft
revolution“. There are already preset values stored, which are suitable for most vehicles.
An integrated shift flash can be set under engine temperature control. The CUMPAN effec-
tively warns of damaging speeds when the engine is cold.

NOTEThe engine temperature is not displayed below 10°C for tech- nical reasons. The engine should not be loaded by too high
speeds in this temperature range.

Electrical connection
1. Power cable: red to switched +12V / black to ground. Often already prepared on
the vehicle (e.g. for a navigation device, called „ACC2“ at KTM), otherwise the pow-
er supply of the light / horn is used for this. Current requirement: 80 mA / 12V.
2. Speed signal: connect black (single) cable to the signal of the crankshaft position sen-
sor. To do this, you need to locate the cable of the sensor. As a rule, this can be found
on the alternator.
»Do not lay the cable in the direct vicinity of the ignition system
3. Engine temperature: Connect plug with sensor. The temperature sensor must
be screwed in/ installed in the area of the desired temperature detection..
4. Gear indicator: Connect the black and white cable to the cable of the gear sensor.
For this purpose, the cable of the gear sensor must be located. The cable may only be
connected to voltages of 0 - 5V.
»Attention: Higher voltages destroy the device!
If no gear signal is connected, the gear indicator on the display is automatically hid-
den.

Operation
The menu is called up in all layouts by touch input at the lower left edge of the screen. The
desired values can be set here. The respective value can be increased or decreased using
the arrows on the left/right.
→ All set values are saved as soo n as you return to the main display via „Menu“.
Menu 1 [RPM]:
»MAX: Maximum permissible speed of the vehicle
»HOT: Speed threshold (switching flash) with engine at
operating temperature
»COLD: Speed threshold (shift flash) with cold engine
Menu 2 [TEMP]:
»LIMIT: Limit temperature of the engine (overheating)
»WARM: Warm-up temperature for shift flash when en-
gine is cold
»ICE: Temperature threshold at which icy conditions
are warned of
Menu 3 [DISPLAY]:
»Colour: Color scheme selectable with 13 different co-
lors
»Orientation/Rotate: The display is rotated by 180 de-
gree
»Temperature unit: Celsius / Fahrenheit

Menu 5 [SENS]:
»Damping: Number of considered pulses in the RPM calculation, sets the smoothing of
the RPM - the higher the value, the slower the display
»Sensor: Preset for „BIKE“ (24 pulses) / „CAR“ (60 pulses) or „UNI“ (freely adjustable)
»Count („UNI“ only): The number of pulses per crankshaft revolution can be freely selec-
ted and thus the RPM detection can be customized
DISPOSAL
Devices that can no longer be used should not be disassembled as a whole unit, but rat-
her in individual parts and recycled according to the type of materials. Components that
cannot be recycled must be disposed of properly.
Menu 4 [LAYOUT]:
»Layout: Display layout selectable from 5 different
representations
»gearing calibration: Calling up the gear calibration
Submenu 4 [LAYOUT] - [gearing calibration]:
»Gear calibration (engine must be running):
If necessary, the determined values can be adjusted
manually using the arrow keys.
• s elect „Gear 1“ and engage 1st gear on motorcycle
• press „calibrate“ - selected gear appears green
→ value has been captured
• repeat the above steps for all further gears
(„Gear 2“ → 2nd gear on motorcycle etc.)
