INTRODUCTION
The 15 FE Tractor is powered by a2 H.P.,four
t^^^ cycle, air cooledenginewithropestarterandrota-
^atir^screen.
Power is transmittedfrom the engine by V-belt to
anenclosedstampedsteel,greasefilledgearcase
withmachinedsteelgearsdriving in therearaxle.
Castironwheelhubs are driven by doubleacting
ratchetpawls.
Thetires are5-12 tractiontype,carrying 6 lbs.
pressure,mountedon4 inchreversiblesteelwheels.
Clutchcontrol,frontattachmentleverandthrottle
control are mounted on upperhandleassembly for
convenience of the operator.
Frontattachments are mountedwithBolen'sSnap
Hitch and rearattachments by use ofa Trigger
Hitch.Bothoperations canbe donequickly and
easilywithout theuse of tools.
Thewheels are reversibleandcanbedishedinward
oroutwardgivingwheelsettings of 17-1/2inches
or 24 inchesfromcenter to center of tires.

ASSEMBLY
Thetractor is shipped in fourparcels; a carton
containingtheengine, a cartoncontainingthechassis,
abundleconsisting of handleassemblywithcontrol
rod anda bundle of wheels. A smallcartoncon-
taininghardwareparts is includedwithchassis.
Removepartsfromcartons.
Removeattachmentcontrolrodwiredtomainhandle
assembly.Positionlowerends of handleassembly
overrear of tractorframe(Fig. 2). Alignupper
holes in handleswithupperholes in frame andin-
sert3/8-16 X 1-1/2capscrews,lockwashersandnuts
but donot tightencompletely.Pivothandleassem-
bly so lowerholesalignwithcenterholesintractor
frame and securewith3/8-16 x 7/8 capscrews,
lockwashers and nuts.Tightenuppercapscrews.

Positionwheels on tractorhubs in such a manner
thateachwheelwillrotate inthe direction in-
dicated by arrow on tire.Secureeachwheelwith
3hubboltsprovided.
Mountengine to front of chassiswith5/16-18 x
3/4capscrews,lockwashers and nuts.Tighten
capscrewssecurely.
Toinsurelongbeltlife itis essential the inside
section of enginesheave and tractordrivesheave
areproperlyaligned as shown inFig.3.Ifad-
justment is necessary,loosen set screwsinengine
sheave,movesheaveinward or outward to obtain
properalignmentwithtractorsheave and retighten
setscrews.Installdrivebeltaroundinnersection
ofenginesheave,betweenupper and lowerbelt
stops, overidlerpulley and arounddrivesheave.
The two wirebeltstops are usedonlywithbelt
drivenfrontattachments and require no adjustment
fortractoroperation.

Thread oneofthe10-24 locknuts on free endof
clutchcableapproximately 1/2 inch.Nextinsert
theend of cablethroughhole in bracketdirectly in
front of clutchleverandsecurebyturningtheother
10-24lock nuton cable.Loosenscrew in clamp
onclutchlever.Insertclutchwireintohole in
clamp and retightenscrew(Fig. 4).
Secureclutch and throttlecables to tractorhandle
withtwoclipsprovided.

ASSEMBLY
Removecotter pin andbearingpinfromend of
attachmentcontrollever.Positionleverinbracket
\oncenter of handlecrossbarandreplacebearing
pinandcotterpin(Fig. 4).
Insertbottomformedend of controlrodthrough
hole in swivellinkfrominsideandsecurewith
springclip.
ThelowerattachmentcontrolrodIncludedInchassis
cartonshouldbeinstalledonlywhen a frontmounted
attachment is beingused.Whenneeded, it should
beinstalledoverthelowerend of thelongcontrol
rodandtotheoutsideofswivelcontrollink(Fig. 5).
Thefrontend of thelowerrod is thensecured to
theattachmentidlerassembly.

LUBRICATION
Thetractor is equippedwithsixgreasefittings
located as follows: (2) one on eachwheelhub(1)
idlerpulley, (1) transmissionhousing, (1) axle
housingbeneathframe, (1) countershafthousing
beneathframe.Thesefittingsareproperlygreased
whenunitleavesfactorybutcompletegreasingwith
regularpressuregreaseisrecommendedforapprox-
imatelyevery10hours of operation.
Thetransmissionhousing is lubricatedwitha liquid
geargrease atthe factorywhichwilllast a con-
siderablelengthoftimeunless a leakshoulddevelop.
It is recommendedthat asa precautionarymeasure
asmallamount of regulargrease be addedeach
time the tractor is lubricated.Theplugonside
ofcover is not anoil levelplugbut is provided
forremoval of geartrainshaft.
OPERATION
IMPORTANT:THEENGINECRANKCASEISWITH-
OUTOILWHENSHIPPEDFROMFACTORY. BE-
FORESTARTINGENGINEBESURETOFILLTHE
CRANKCASE WITHLUBRICANTSPECIFIED IN
ENGINEMANUAL.Furtherinstructionspertaining
totheengine,itscareandoperationarecontained
intheenginemanual.Readtheseinstructionscare-
fully.
Theclutchleverlocatedbelowthelefthandleassem-
blyoperatestheidlerpulleywhich in turnengages
anddisengagesthedrivebelt.Todisengagedrive
belt,drawclutchleverupwarduntilthelatchcatches
andlockslever in position. To disengagedrive
belt,applyupwardpressure on clutchlever so
latchcanbereleasedandthenslowlyreleaseclutch
leverfully.
Beforestartingtheenginebesuretheclutchlever
isdisengaged. The attachmentcontrollever on
handlecrossbarshouldbeinforwardordisengaged
position if a frontmountedattachmentisbeingused.
ADJUSTMENT
Thehandlesare at mediumheight as assembled in
previousinstructions. If desired,they maybe
raised or lowered by placingcapscrews in handle
ends in upper or lowerholes in tractorframe.
ForsatisfactoryperformanceitIsimportantthebelt
tension be carefullyadjusted.Thisadjustment is
madebymovingtheclutchwireinward or outward
inclamponclutchlever.Whenproperlyadjusted,
thetop of thebeltshoulddepressapproximately
1/2inchunderslightthumbpressurewhenclutch is
engaged.
