Bostik Thermogrip TG-4 User manual

Thermogrip®Model TG-4
Electric Glue Gun
Before placing the tool in use, be certain you have
done the following:.
CAUTION - Use care and wear gloves to avoid touching hot
parts of gun or molten adhesive which can cause painful and
serious burns. Watch out for hot glue margins or squeeze out
during assembly. In addition, the glue nozzle can reach 400°F
and remain hot enough to burn for 5 to 10 minutes after the
gun has been turned off. If burn does occur do not remove
glue, immediately submerge affected area in cold water.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Plug cord into socket. The yellow / orange light on the back
of gun will illuminate. Allow approximately 5-6 minutes for
warm up. The gun will then be ready for dispensing of Bostik
Hot Melts. Do not operate gun during warm-up period as
damage to the gun can occur if adhesive is forced through
the gun at an inadequate temperature.
2. Slide appropriate BOSTIK glue stick formula through the
orange round opening in the rear of the gun casing, through
the metal ring inside the casing, and directly into the orange
inlet tube until resistance is met.
3. After the warm-up period, you may begin your bonding tasks
by drawing on the trigger to extrude molten adhesive
through the nozzle and onto the work. The quantity of
molten adhesive deposited will be directly related to the
degree of pressure exerted on the trigger. Release trigger
pressure when you wish to stop application.
Important Safety Instructions
Warning: When using Electric Tools, basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock,
and personal injury, including the following:
1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas and benches invite
injuries.
2. Consider work area environment. Don't expose power
tools to rain. Don't use power tools in damp or wet locations.
3. Keep Children Away. All visitors should be kept away from
work area. Do not let visitors contact tool or extension cord.
4. Store idle tools. When not in use, tools should be stored in
dry, high or locked-up place — out of reach of children.
5. Use safety glasses.
6. Don't abuse cord. Never carry tool by cord or yank it to
disconnect from receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and
sharp edges.
7. Don't overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all
times.
8. Disconnect tools. When not in use, before servicing and
when changing accessories.
9. This tool is recommended for indoor use only.
10. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense.
Do not operate tool when you are tired.
11. Do not touch the heated nozzle of the glue gun or the
hot melt glue. The operating temperature of this tool is
380°F.
12. Never attempt to use any material other than recommended
adhesive glue sticks in the glue gun. For example: Do not
attempt to melt crayons or candles. Permanent damage to
the glue gun could result.
13. Do not use hot melt glue to take the place of structural
fasteners.
14. The adhesive used with this glue gun will begin to soften at
about 140°F. Don't use the glue on objects that will be
subjected to temperatures of 140°For above.
15. Do not attempt to remove the unused portion of a glue
stick from the tool.
16. Never attempt to force cool the gun after use by immersing
any part of it in water or any other liquid. Allow the gun to air
cool only.
17. Supervise the use of this tool by children.
18. The glue gun is on as soon as it is plugged in.
19. When not in use, do not leave the glue gun plugged in
for an extended time. Do not leave unattended.
20. Always be sure that the glue gun is cool before storing it.
21. Avoid accidental glue discharge. Feeding or pushing
adhesive stick with too much force into a heated gun may
cause hot adhesive to be unexpectedly expelled from nozzle.
SAVE THIS PAMPHLET FOR FUTURE USE.

4. For the most effective bonds, the nozzle tip should be drawn
along in contact with the surface to which the adhesive is
applied, and the transfer surface should be mated to close
the joint as quickly as possible.
5. To reload BOSTIK glue sticks, simply follow the trailing end
of the stick being used into the metal ring with the leading
end of the fresh stick until it is engaged by the ratchet
mechanism controlled by the trigger action.
6. To change adhesive formulas — DO NOT PULL ADHESIVE
FROM REAR OF GUN. This will damage the orange inlet
tube. Cut off the protruding adhesive stick and introduce
new sticks as suggested above. The first formula should be
cleared from the melt chamber after about 8 inches of the
new formula has moved into the inlet tube.
7. Because of initial expansion in adhesive volume, some
slight drooling at the nozzle tip will occur each time a cold
gun is heated. However, during use there should be little or
no tip drool in evidence.
Occasionally some dirt or foreign matter may get into the
nozzle area and interfere with the ball check shut offaction.
When this happens, the faulty nozzle should be removed
and replaced with a spare. BE CERTAIN GUN IS HOT
BEFORE USING A WRENCH TO REMOVE NOZZLE.
No repair is possible on a problem nozzle tip, so a spare
should be on hand at all times.
8. This fine tool is warranted to be free from defects in material
and workmanship under normal conditions of use for 6
months from the date of purchase by the user.
Any claim under this warranty should be made through the
BOSTIK distributor from whom it was purchased.
9. Thermogrip®TG-4 electric glue gun is designed to accept
BOSTIK hot melt adhesives. The use of any other adhesives
are at the user's risk and may void the current Thermogrip®
warranty on the Model TG-4.
