RMS(Root MeanSquare) is a termusedtodescribetheeffectiveorequivalentDC
valueofanACsignal. True RMS is the termwhichidentifiesaDMMthatresponds
accuratelytotheeffectiveRMSvalueregardlessofthewaveformssuchas:square,
sawtooth, triangle, pulse trains, spikes, as well as distorted waveforms with the
presenceofharmonics.Harmonicsmaycause:
1)Overheatedtransformers,generatorsandmotorstoburnoutfasterthannormal
2)Circuitbreakerstotripprematurely
3)Fusestoblow
4)Neutralstooverheatduetothetriplenharmonicspresentontheneutral
5)Busbarsandelectricalpanelstovibrate
CrestFactoristheratiooftheCrest(instantaneouspeak)valuetotheTrueRMS
value,andiscommonlyusedtodefinethedynamicrangeofaTrueRMSDMM.Apure
sinusoidal waveform has a Crest Factor of 1.414. A badly distorted sinusoidal
waveformnormallyhasamuchhigherCrestFactor.
Beforeandafterhazardousvoltagemeasurements,testthevoltagefunctionona
knownsourcesuchaslinevoltagetodeterminepropermeterfunctioning.

such circuits.

Press the pushbutton momentarily to toggle Hz function. Itisonlyavailableto
VoltageandCurrentrelatedranges.
Inputsensitivityvariesautomaticallywith the functionrangeselected whileactivating
theHzfunction. 6V function range hasthehighestandthe1000Vrangehasthe
lowest. WhenactivatedunderDCV,ACVorVFD ACV voltagefunction,thetrigger
voltage range will be displayed right before starting the Hz readings. Press
momentarily the button can manually selectanothertrigger voltagerange(not
availabletocurrentranges) . Itisrecommendedtofirstmeasurethesignal voltage(or
current) level and activateHzfunctioninthatrangeto getthemostappropriatetrigger
level. IftheHzreadingbecomesu nstable,selectlowersensitivitytoavoidelectrical
noise.Ifthereadingshowszero,selecthighersensitivity.

opendiode(defective).Reversethetestleadsconnections(reversebiased)acrossthe
diode.ThedigitaldisplayshowsOLifthediodeisgood.Anyotherreadingsindicate
thediodeisresistiveorshorted(defective).
Dischargecapacitorsbeforemakinganymeasurement.Largevaluecapacitorsshould
bedischargedthroughanappropriateresistanceload.

AVG readings in sequence. Press the button for 1 second or more to exit
MAX/MIN/AVG recording mode.Autorangingremains,and AutoPowerOff is disabled
automaticallyinthismode.
Press the buttonfor1secondormoreto toggle the LCD backlight. The
backlightwillalsobeturnedoffautomaticallyafter10minutes toextendbatterylife.
The holdfeature freezesthedisplayforlaterview.Pressthe button momentarily
