10. SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS
As with all gas appliances the unit must be serviced at least once per year, preferably at
the beginning of the heating season. All servicing must be carried out by a qualified
service person.
Before commencing any servicing, ens re that the gas is t rned off to the appliance and
that the appliance is cool.
• Cleaning – If req ired the casing sho ld be wiped with a damp cloth in soapy
water. The glass may be cleaned with any non-abrasive cleaner s ch as ‘hob brite‘.
• Lift the cast front and the decorative frame to remove. Unscrew the fo r n ts
holding the glass, remove and place tho ghtf lly to avoid damage or inj ry.
• Remove the front and rear coal sets, clean the b rner and associated parts sing a
vac m cleaner. Take partic lar care to remove all debris aro nd the pilot light.
• The logs and backing ‘brickwork’ contain refractory fibre (RCF). Excessive
expos re to these materials may ca se temporary irritation to the eyes, skin and
respiratory tract; conseq ently, take care when handling these parts to ens re
that the release of d st is kept to a minim m. We recommend the se of a HEPA
filtered vac m to remove any d st and soot acc m lated in the heater before
and after working on it. When replacing these articles, they sho ld not be broken
p, b t sealed in heavy d ty polythene bags labelled ‘RCF Waste’, which may be
disposed of at a tipping site licensed for ind strial waste. Normal hygiene r les of
not smoking, eating or drinking in the work area sho ld be followed.
• Disconnect the gas s pply to the appliance.
• Undo the two n ts holding the b rner assembly in the chassis. Remove the b rner
tray and examine it for general condition. Discolo ration of the b rner s rface is
normal.
• Clean aro nd the air inlet, removing all lint in the area of the injector and ens ring
the pilot light aeration hole and flame head are clean. Injectors – Only original
man fact rer’s injectors m st be sed. Identification is as follows: Nat ral Gas
(G20) - 92/180, Propane (G31) - 92/90 sho ld the oxypilot system need to be
replaced, the original man fact rer’s parts m st be sed.
• Controls – The GAS CONTROL IS FACTORY SET AND NORMALLY NEEDS NO
ADJUSTMENT. Check for smooth operation of the gas valve. Remove all covers,
check the tightness of the thermoco ple connection into the valve, the condition
of the piezo and ignition leads.
• Examine the fire casing, the firebox and catalytic converter for obvio s signs of
damage or degradation. Clean o t any dirt or d st acc m lated in the bottom of
the fire. Reassemble in reverse order.
• Refit b rner into chassis and reconnect to the gas s pply. Test all joints for leaks.
• Following the instr ctions (section 7), re-lay the f el bed and replace the glass.
• Light the fire sing the method in the instr ctions and ens re that the pilot lights
consistently and the pilot flame envelopes the thermoco ple. The pilot sho ld
hold in 10 seconds.
• T rn control to main b rner, this sho ld light smoothly within 10 seconds. Ens re
the valve gives adeq ate t rn down and the thermostat b lb red ces the b rner
rate to off when heated. The gas manifold press res are factory preset sing
highly acc rate eq ipment and may be observed in the press re test point on the
valve. In the nlikely event of the press re being incorrect it may be reset (refer
to data plate for details), sing a manometer or other press re testing eq ipment.
