GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Gas appliances m st be installed in accordance with the r les in force. In the UK it is the
law that all gas appliances m st be installed by a Gas Safe™ registered installer (formerly
CORGI), in accordance with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) reg lations (as
amended). The installation m st also be in accordance with the relevant parts of local and
national b ilding reg lations and in accordance with BS5871 pt4 except where B rley
instr ctions state differently. For the Rep blic of Ireland, reference sho ld be made to
IS813 and ICP3 and any g idance notes from Bord Gais. Fail re to have the fire fitted by a
q alified person n llifies ALL g arantees.
3.2 The space to be heated m st have a wall vent of at least 100cm² of ventilation and an
openable window or patio door. The vent m st be positioned at least 1 metre away from
the appliance. A vent may have been s pplied with the appliance and this is the preferred
type altho gh it is possible to se alternatives.
3.3 In the Rep blic of Ireland two vents of not less than 60cm² each, one not less than 1.6m
above the other, m st be installed in the room.
3.4 When providing ventilator openings consideration m st be given to the avoidance of
locations where discomfort from dra ghts may ca se the ser to block the openings.
Similarly the possibility of c rtains or f rnit re blocking ventilation openings m st be
considered. Floor vents, closable window vents or chimneys are not suitable means of
ventilation.
3.5 Working s rfaces incl de the air o tlet grille.
3.6 The appliance m st not be sed in a room of less than 30m³ in vol me. Adjoining spaces,
not separated by a door may be incl ded. To convert c bic feet (ft³) to c bic metre (m³)
divide the room vol me in c bic feet by 35.3.
3.7 The appliance m st not be installed in high rise blocks of flats, bed sitting rooms,
basements which are not open on at least one side, bathrooms, or bedrooms, in corridors
stairways landing or hallways of m lti occ pancy dwellings, garages or rooms containing
petrole m prod cts.
3.8 Soft f rnishings, decorations and wall coverings etc. m st not be placed within 1 metre of
the appliance and its convection o tlets (see 5.0). Be aware of c rtains etc which co ld be
blown towards the appliance.
3.9 The appliance is intended as a secondary heat source. Check that a primary so rce of
heat (s ch as radiators) is present in the room. If ins fficient primary heat is being sed
there may be a b ild p of condensation, if this is the case, please warn the c stomer.
3.10 The appliance m st not be sed in rooms where the atmosphere is likely to contain water
or chemical vapo rs which may adversely affect the appliance or its finish.
3.11 Do not se whilst painting & decorating, or in newly decorated rooms as the resid es can
lead to npleasant smells from the appliance. Always cover or have the appliance
removed when decorating. (See points to note on page 14)
3.12 Candles too close to the fire may melt. Scented candles m st be at least 1 metre away
from the appliance.
3.13 Air freshener resid es can enter the appliance and lead to resid al odo rs, especially the
pl g in type.
3.14 The catalyst is not an air cleaner and presence of odo rs is nlikely to be catalyst fail re.
3.15 Ho ses with warm air heating systems, solid walls, or no damp proof co rse may be
ns itable for fl eless appliances.
3.16 This appliance does not contain asbestos.
3.17 The oxy pilot can become blocked by fibres from new carpets and pet hairs advise the
c stomer to vac m aro nd the pilot on a reg lar basis to prevent blockage to pilot nit.
