Thepurposeofsafetysymbolsistoattractyourattention topossiblehazardousconditions.
Thismanualusesaseriesofsymbolsand signalwordswhichareintended toconveythe
levelofimportanceofthe safetymessages. The progression ofsymbolsisdescribed below.
Rememberthat safetymessagesbythemselvesdo not eliminatedangerandarenot a
substituteforproperaccident prevention measures.
1.KEEP GUARDSINPLACE and inworking order.
2.REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYSAND WRENCHES. Form habitof checkingtosee that
keys andadjustingwrenchesareremovedfromtoolbeforeturningon.
3.KEEP WORK AREACLEAN. Cluttered areasandbenchesinviteaccidents.
4.DO NOTUSE INDANGEROUSENVIRONMENT. Donotusepowertoolsindampor
wet locations,orwhereanyflammableornoxiousfumesmayexist. Keepworkarea
well lighted.
5.KEEP CHILDRENAND VISITORSAWAY. All children andvisitorsshouldbe kepta
safedistancefromworkarea.
6.MAKEWORKSHOPCHILDPROOF withpadlocks, masterswitches,orbyremoving
starterkeys.
7.DO NOTFORCETOOL. It will dothe jobbetterand saferatthe rateforwhichit was
designed.
8.USE RIGHTTOOL. Donotforcetoolorattachment todo ajob forwhichitwasnot
designed.
9.USE PROPEREXTENSIONCORD.Makesureyourextension cordisingood
condition. Conductorsizeshouldbe inaccordancewiththechartbelow. Theamperage
ratingshouldbelistedonthe motorortoolnameplate. Anundersizedcordwill causea
dropinlinevoltageresultinginloss ofpowerand overheating.Yourextensioncord
must alsocontainagroundwireandplugpin.Always repairorreplaceextensioncords
iftheybecomedamaged.

10.WEARPROPERAPPAREL. Donot wearlooseclothing,gloves, neckties, rings,
bracelets,orotherjewelrywhichmayget caughtinmoving parts. Non-slipfootwearis
recommended. Wearprotectivehaircoveringtocontainlonghair.
11.ALWAYS USE SAFETYGLASSES. Alsousefaceordust maskifcutting operationis
dusty. Everydayeyeglassesonlyhaveimpactresistant lenses, theyareNOTsafety
glasses.
12.SECUREWORK. Useclampsoravisetoholdworkwhenpractical.It’ssaferthan
usingyourhandandfreesbothhandstooperatetool.
13.DO NOTOVERREACH. Keepproperfootingand balanceat all times.
14.MAINTAINTOOLSWITHCARE.Keeptoolssharpand cleanforbestand safest
performance. Followinstructionsforlubricatingandchangingaccessories.
15.USE RECOMMENDEDACCESSORIES. Consulttheowner’smanualfor
recommended accessories. The useof improperaccessoriesmaycauserisk of injury.
16.REDUCETHERISKOFUNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Onmachineswithmagnetic
contactstartingswitchesthereisarisk of startingif themachineisbumpedorjarred.
Always disconnectfrompowersourcebeforeadjusting orservicing.Makesureswitch
isinOFF positionbeforereconnecting.
17.MANYWOODWORKING TOOLSCAN “KICKBACK THEWORKPIECE towardthe
operatorifnothandledproperly. Knowwhat conditionscancreate “kickback”and know
howtoavoidthem.Read themanualaccompanying themachinethoroughly.
18.CHECK DAMAGEDPARTS. Beforefurtheruseof thetool,aguardorotherpartthat is
damagedshouldbecarefullycheckedtodeterminethatit will operateproperlyand
perform itsintended function. Checkforalignmentofmovingparts,bindingofmoving
parts,breakageof parts,mounting,and anyotherconditionsthat mayaffectits
operation.Aguardorotherpart thatisdamagedshouldbe properlyrepaired or
replaced.
19.NEVERLEAVE TOOLRUNNINGUNATTENDED.TURNPOWEROFF. Donot leave
tooluntil it comestoacompletestop.
20.NEVEROPERATEAMACHINEWHENTIRED, ORUNDERTHEINFLUENCEOF
DRUGSORALCOHOL. Full mentalalertnessisrequired atall timeswhen runninga
machine.
21.NEVERALLOWUNSUPERVISEDORUNTRAINEDPERSONNELTOOPERATE
THEMACHINE. Makesureanyinstructionsyougiveinregardstomachine operation

2.CIRCUIT REQUIREMENTS
Grounding
Intheevent of anelectricalshort, groundingreducesthe risk ofelectricshock byproviding
electriccurrent apathof least resistance. Thistoolisequippedwithapowercordhaving
an equipment-groundingconductor. SeeFigure1. Theoutletmustbeproperlyinstalled
andgrounded inaccordancewithall localcodesand ordinances.

Extension Cords
Ifyoufindit necessarytouseanextensioncordwiththe ModelG7943/44, makesurethe
cordisratedHardService(grade S)orbetter.Refertothechartinthestandardsafety
instructionstodeterminetheminimumgaugeforthe extension cord. Theextensioncord
must alsocontainagroundwireandplugpin.Always repairorreplaceextensioncords
whentheybecomewornordamaged.

Clean Up
The unpainted surfacesarecoatedwithawaxyoiltoprotectthemfromcorrosion during
shipment.Removethisprotectivecoatingwithasolventcleanerorcitrus-baseddegreaser.
Avoidchlorine-based solventsastheymaydamagepaintedsurfacesshouldtheycomein
contact. Always followtheusageinstructionsontheproduct youchooseforcleanup.
SiteConsiderations
FLOORLOAD
Yourdrill pressrepresentsamoderateweight loadinasmall footprint. Mostcommercial
orhomeshopfloorsshouldbesufficienttocarrythe weightofthedrill press. Ifyou
questionthestrengthofyourfloor, youcanopt toreinforceit.Ensurethatthestandor
benchyouusewiththedrill pressiscapableof supportingthemachine.
WORKING CLEARANCES
Workingclearancescan bethoughtofasthe distancesbetweenmachinesandobstacles
that allowsafeoperationof everymachinewithoutlimitation. Considerexistingand
anticipatedmachineneeds,sizeofmaterialtobeprocessedthrougheachmachine,and
spaceforauxiliarystandsand/orworktables.Alsoconsidertherelativepositionof each
machinetooneanotherforefficient materialhandling.Besuretoallowyourselfsufficient
roomtosafelyrunyourmachinesinanyforeseeableoperation.

Lightingshouldbe brightenough toeliminateshadowandpreventeyestrain.Electrical
circuitsshouldbededicatedorlargeenoughtohandlecombinedmotoramploads.Outlets
shouldbelocatedneareachmachinesopowerorextension cordsarenotobstructing
high-trafficareas.Besuretoobservelocalelectricalcodesforproperinstallationofnew
lighting,outlets, orcircuits.
4:ASSEMBLY
BeginningAssembly
Most ofyourDrill Presshasbeen assembledat thefactory, but somepartsmust be
assembledorinstalled afterdelivery. Wehaveorganizedtheassemblyprocess intosteps.
Pleasefollowalong intheorderpresented here.
Column/Base
Drill press mustbesecuredtothefloorusinganchorbolts,orthe baseshouldbesecured
toapieceof plywood.
1.Unplugmachinebeforeassembly.
2.Securethebasetothefloorusingtheappropriateanchorbolts.
3.Placethecolumnonthebaseand line upthemountingholes. Insertand tightenthe
M10-1.5hexheadboltswithawrench.
TableSupport
1.Threadthe12mm tablelock handle3turnsintothetablesupportbracketasshownin
Figure3.
2.Insert thepiniongearintotheholeontheside of the tablesupportbracket fromthe
inside, startingwiththepinionshaft asshownin Figure3. Align setscrewincrank
handlewithflatonpiniongearshaftandsecureusing the3mm Allen®wrenchprovided
asshownin Figure4.
3.Examinetherackandnotethatthegearteethextendfartherononeendthantheother.
The endoftherack wherethe gearteethareclosest totheendshouldbepositioned
down. Inserttherack intothetablesupportbracket and alignit withthepocket as
shownin Figure4.Thegearteethontherack must alsofaceout.
4.Slide thetablesupportbracketontothecolumnwhileholding therackinplace.Allow
thebrackettogodownuntil the bottomof therackcontactsthe shoulderonthecolumn
supportasshownin Figure4. Securethetablesupport bracket withthelock handle.

thesetscrewon thering.
Headstock
1. Thereisapocket inthebottomoftheheadstock forthecolumntobeplaced.Seek
assistancetohelppositionthe headstockoverthecolumn.Allowthe headstocktoslide
downuntil it stops(approximately4").
2. Positiontheheadstock directlyoverthebasebyusing aplumbbob.Useameasuring
tapeorruleracrossthedrill press basetofinditscenter.Suspendtheplumblinefrom
thecenterof theheadstock labelandlowerthebobuntil it isnearthetape/ruleras
shownin Figure6.Adjustheadstock fromsidetoside until thetipisequidistant from
boththeleft andrightsides.
3. Tighten thetwosetscrewsshownin Figure7 tosecureheadstock tothecolumn.
