Installation –
Please note installation is performed at your own risk –this guide is for reference only. If
you are unsure of your ability to install this equipment, please consult an automotive
professional.
Installation steps overview –
1) Remove vent trim to expose radio unit bolts, remove radio unit
2) Make connections behind radio unit
3) Run microphone wiring and locate microphone (can route to a location of your
preference or hide behind existing microphone cover)
4) Position CarPlay box in aperture behind radio unit.
5) Run CarPlay USB cable to desired location. Refit radio unit and trim.
First step is to remove the two left/right air vents in central dashboard panel.
We include a 90 degree tool into the box to help with this.
There is a plastic indent at the inside centre bottom of the vents which you must
depress and hook with the 90 degree tool, and then pull straight towards you to release
the vents individually. You will feel a pop as the vents release. It is important to hold the
vent assembly with your other hand to avoid losing grip on the release tool.
Once vents have been removed, if you look into the space behind them, you will see a
TORX screw behind each of the left/right air vents, screwed into a plastic bracket going
straight down. These two screws and brackets hold the Mercedes original radio in place.
When both screws are removed, reach your hands into space behind air vents and you
can feel that the radio is released, carefully push out the radio unit a little to make sure
it is free to move (it is recommended to lay down a cloth to protect centre console trim
from scratching at this point)
When it is pushed out 5 cm or so, there may be a wire connected to the stereo fascia on
the right side, please disconnect this and then you can push the stereo further out to
work on the rear connections.
When this is disconnected you will be able to see the rear of the stereo unit.
Connections –
Behind the radio itself, we are only working with 2 connections
1) Quadlock (large black plastic multi plug –held in place with a swivelling clip)
2) LVDS (Video) connection –Video output cable to monitor (small blue plug)
Overall wiring diagram
Remove quadlock from original radio unit –locked in place with swivelling clip
Connect factory quadlock connector to CarPlay quadlock female end.
Connect male end of CarPlay quadlock to rear of original radio –ensure clip at bottom of
connector is fully pressed home.
Remove blue LVDS cable (marked with red arrow) from rear of original radio (may be in a
different location in your vehicle –however it is usually marked with text ‘DISP’ above) –
depress small clip at side of connector whilst carefully pulling out –replace with LCD IN
connector from the CarPlay kit. Plug the cars original blue LVDS into the LCD OUT connector
included in the kit.
Audio Connection –
Depending on your preference, there are two ways to connect the AUX Audio pass-through
cable coming from the power wiring loom –either connect directly to the quadlock pass-
through connector, or connect the 3.5mm lead directly from ‘AUDIO OUT’ on CarPlay power
loom to the cars 3.5mm AUX socket.
Final Step
Once all connections are made on rear of radio and the CarPlay box, tuck the CarPlay box
into the aperture behind the factory radio, ensuring the radio has enough space to go back
into position without trapping any wiring. Refit radio, tighten torx screws and refit air vents.
Controls –
Console Controls
4) Return button –long press to enter/exit CarPlay mode, short press to return to previous
menu
5) Press to activate SiRi
6) Selector knob, rotate to select menu items in CarPlay short press to select
