TO THE OWNER
This manual is your guide to safe, productive operation. Read it carefully.
It will help to reduce trial and error learning. It should also minimize damage
and downtime caused by improper maintenance.

DELIVERY OF NEW MACHINE
At the time your Case Dealer delivers your new machine, he will acquaint
you with its operation and maintenance as outlined in the "Owner Warranty
Registration and Delivery Report". When your Dealer has completed these
instructions, he will ask you to sign the report and will then give you a copy
£oryour records.
AFTER DELIVERY CHECKUP
Three copies of the After Delivery Checkup form are located in the back
of this manual. One copy is for you the owner, one for the dealer and one copy
for Construction Equipment Service. Make arrangements with your Authorized
Case Dealer to have the After Delivery Checkup performed after the first 20
hours of operation.
NOTE:
The only charge your dealer will make for this inspection will be
for filters, oil or other accessories.
If
the checkup is not performed in the
dealer's shop, travel time and mileage may also be charged.
RIGHT AND LEFTSIDES OF MACHINE
"Right-Hand" and "Left-Hand", when used in this manual, indicate the
right and left sides of the machine as viewed from the operator's seat.

the care and good judgment you exercise in the use of this equipment. Know
the positions and functions of all controls before attempting to operate. BE
SURE TO CHECK ALL CONTROLSIN A SAFE OPEN AREA BEFORE

.MPORTANT: Always install new decals if the old decals cannot be read.
When parts that have decals are replaced, make sure to install new decals with
the new part. You can get new decals from your Case dealer. 46-48-A

an open fire. Do not puncture or throw starting fluid can into an incinerator.

steering, braking and operation. A properly operating machine can prevent

gas lines, etc. A ruptured gas line or cut electrical line could result in

DANGER: Use extreme caution when stopping. If the loader or attach-

WARNING: Never transport a loaded bucket at full height. Keep the

CAUTION: Do not permit riders on machine. Thisis a one man machine.

AWARNING: If the machine is to be operated on a grade or ramp, always
back up the grade or drive down forward. Keep the bucket close to the
ground for added stability. 46-10

WARNING: Lower stabilizers to operating position before "stretching
out" the backhoe (lowering boom and extending dipper). If the stabilizers
are not lowered, an unbalanced condition will result and could cause the
machine to tip.
To reposition machine when trenching, either raise boom to full height
and retract dipper or lower backhoe close to ground before raising
stabilizers.
To help stability when machine is equipped with Extendahoe or other
heavy rear attachments, fill loader bucket with material. 41-1
A CAUTION: Know and understand the traffic flow patterns of your job.
Understand and obey the flagman, road signs or signals. Failure to do so
could cause an accident. 29-3

WARNING: When digging on a slope with the backhoe, always engage

thepark brake. If the transmissionis in neutral and thepark brakeis released,
the machine will freewheel down the hill when the loader bucket and
backhoe stabilizers are raised. Reposition the machine from the tractor
operator's seat only. 46-28-A

WARNING: Use the hand throttle only to set engine speed during
backhoe operations or when instructed by the service manual. Failure
to follow above instructions could causean accident. 46-23
h CAUTION: Do not jump from the machine, serious injury could result.

DANGER: Keep all machine parts away from live electrical lines. If work
must be done close to high voltage lines, have the utility company dis-
h. connect them. It is not necessary to actually contact a power line for the
.. electricity to ground through the machine. If power does ground through
the machine, remain on the machine and DO NOT TOUCH THE MACHINE
STRUCTURE. Refer to the following chart. 4-4-A

WARNING: If the clutch disconnect is not used correctly, an accident
can result. Know the operation of the clutch disconnect before operating
on roads. An example of not using the clutch disconnect correctly is listed
below.
EXAMPLE: Clutch disconnect in the Drive position, transmission in
first gear and the operator is using the hand throttle. Results -Brakes wt/!

WARNING: Always drive the machine slowly when on hillsides, ramps

WARNING: Whenever a PTO driven machine is in operation, the safety
guard must always be in place to prevent injury to the operator. The
safety guard must never be removed at any time, except for replacement.
When the PTO is not in use, the tubular guard must be installed over the
end of the PTO shaft. 42-5
A WARNING: When doing stationary PTO work and dismounting from
the tractor with the PTO running, keep clear of all moving parts as they
are apotential safety hazard. 42-6
AWARNING: Rotating machine parts, stay clear, keep shields installed
