Forward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALposition,turnthekeyswitchtotheOFFposition,andremove
thekey.Chockthewheelswhenservicingthevehicle.
•Improperuseofthevehicleorfailuretoproperlymaintainitcouldresultindecreasedvehicle
performance,severepersonalinjury,ordeath.
•Anymodicationorchangetothevehiclethataffectsthestabilityorhandlingofthevehicle,or
increasesmaximumvehiclespeedbeyondfactoryspecications,couldresultinseverepersonal
injuryordeath.
•Checkthevehicleforproperlocationofallvehiclesafetyandoperationdecalsandmakesuretheyare
inplaceandareeasytoread.
•Forvehicleswithcargobeds,removeallcargobeforeraisingthebedorservicingthevehicle.Ensure
thatthesafetycatchissecurelyengagedwhilebedisraised.Donotclosebeduntilallpersonsare
clearofcargobedarea.Keephandsclearofallcrushareas.Donotdropcargobed;lowergentlyand
keepentirebodyclear.Failuretoheedthiswarningcouldresultinseverepersonalinjuryordeath.
•Onlytrainedtechniciansshouldserviceorrepairthevehicle.Anyonedoingevensimplerepairsor
serviceshouldhaveknowledgeandexperienceinelectricalandmechanicalrepair.Theappropriate
instructionsmustbeusedwhenperformingmaintenance,service,oraccessoryinstallation.
•Toavoidunintentionallystartingthevehicledisconnectbatteryandsparkplugwires.See
DisconnectingtheBattery–GasolineVehicleonpage12.
•Frameground–Donotallowtoolsorothermetalobjectstocontactframewhendisconnectingbattery
cablesorotherelectricalwiring.Donotallowapositivewiretotouchthevehicleframe,engine,or
anyothermetalcomponent.
•Wearsafetyglassesorapprovedeyeprotectionwhenservicingthevehicle.Wearafullfaceshieldand
rubbergloveswhenworkingonornearbatteries.
•Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrysuchasrings,watches,chains,etc.,whenservicingthevehicle.
•Useinsulatedtoolswhenworkingnearbatteriesorelectricalconnections.Useextremecautionto
avoidshortingofcomponentsorwiring.
•Whenservicingthevehiclewithpartofthevehicleonjackstands,donotoperatetheenginewiththe
Forward/ReversehandleineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.Theall-wheeldrivesystemwill
engageanywheel(s),frontorrear,withtraction(Figure3,Page13).
DISABLINGTHEVEHICLE
1.Settheparkbrake.
2.TurnthekeyswitchOFFandremovethekey.
3.PlacetheForward/ReversecontrolintheNEUTRALposition.
4.Inaddition,chockthewheelsifservicingorrepairingthevehicle.
DISCONNECTINGTHEBATTERY–GASOLINEVEHICLES
1.Disablethevehicle.SeeDisablingtheVehicleonpage12.
2.Disconnectthebatterycables,negative(–)cablerst,asshown(Figure2).
3.Disconnectthesparkplugwire(s)fromthesparkplug(s).
