PO N-3
PON-3 is a portable, high quality PON optical power meter. It is
specifically designed to meet the rapid growth of the FTTx market
with PON (Passive Optical Network) technologies. It is capable of
measuring all three signals (1310nm, 1490nm and 1550nm) that
carry voice, data and video in a single fiber. The PON-3 can
measure not only 1490nm and 1550nm optical signal, but also
accurately detect and measure the upstream burst at 1310nm sent
from an ONU while the ONU is in the idle mode. The simple
operation and accurate measurements make the PON-3 an ideal tool
for PON suitable for APON, BPON, EPON and GPON applications,
installation/acceptance tests to ensure that they meet required
standards, and service activation/ troubleshooting.

5.3 Definitions
LEDs
The LED indicators provide a quick method to identify Pass, Fail, or Marginal readings without having to reading the LCD
screen. The three LED indicators represent: upstream 1310nm (ONU), downstream 1490nm (OLT) and 1550nm (Video)
respectively. The color codes are intuitive: RED = Fail; ORANGE = Warning; GREEN =Pass.
Thresholds for Pass / Fail
The definitions for the three states (Fail, Warning and Pass) are described as below:
There are 5 Threshold limits:
Limit1: PON-3 upper measurement capability of the meter
Threshold1: Maximum level for a Pass, Signal cannot be greater than this value
Threshold2: Minimum level needed for a Pass. Below this level is either a warning condition.
Threshold3: Lower limit for Fail. Below this level is a Fail condition.
Limit2: Lower limit of the PON-3 measurement capability of the meter
