Continental DTCO 1381 Digital Tachograph Process Guide
Manual Entry
1. Start the ignition and follow the on-screen prompts. The vehicle unit will request a
card.
2. Insert your driver card in Driver Card slot 1 (unless you are the co-driver, in which
case, insert your card in slot 2. The card should be inserted chip side up with the
arrow pointing in.
3. The Welcome screen is displayed. Local time and UTC are displayed.

4. During card reading, the unit will determine the last time the card was withdrawn.
5. The driver is asked whether a manual entry should be entered during login. Use the
Up and Down buttons to toggle between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Toggle ‘yes’ and then press
OK to make the selection.
6. The top line of the display shows the time at which the card was withdrawn. The
second line shows that rest has been recorded up until the time when the card was
re-inserted. First set the activity to be recorded in the activity. Press Up and Down to
change the pictogram to the required activity.

7. Next, set the time (and date if necessary) when the work session ended. Press the
OK button to confirm the pictogram and select the hours –in this example, hours are
selected as the next field to edit because the manual entry is being entered on the
same day as the previous card withdrawal. If the manual entry was being made the
following day, the date would be selected so that it could be edited if necessary,
followed by the time.
8. Press the Down arrow the required number of times to set the hour when worked
stopped –12pm in this example.

9. Press the OK button to confirm the hour setting. When OK is pressed, the editor
automatically moves to the minutes setting.
10. Use the Up and Down buttons to set the minutes. Press OK to confirm. In this
example, the required time is 12:00.
11. The first part of the manual entry –from 10am to 12pm –is complete and is
displayed on the top line of the display. In this example, a second entry is required
because the driver card was not inserted until 15:00. To create a second entry for
the period, set the pictogram on the bottom line to the required activity.

12. Press OK to confirm the activity change. In this example, the chosen activity runs
until 15:00. Set the time as before if necessary. Note that if the chosen activity runs
until the card insertion time, the driver will not be able to make any more entries.
13. When card insertion time is reached, the unit will request confirmation of the entry.
Use the Up and Down buttons to toggle between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Press the OK button
to confirm the selection.

14. If ‘no’ is selected, the manual entry process will begin again so that modifications can
be made.
15. Manual entry is complete.
