NOTICE: Thismanualshouldbeleftwiththe
owner/userofthisequipment.
IMPORTANT: Thedetectormustbetestedand
maintainedregularlyfollowing NFPA72 requirements.
Thedetectorshouldbecleanedatleastonce ayear.
GENERALDESCRIPTION
ModelsDG311isphotoelectronicdetectorusesastate
of-the-artopticalsensingchamber.Thisdetectoris
designedtoprovideopenareaprotectionandtobeused
withmostconventionalfirealarmcontrolpanel.
TwoLEDsoneachdetectorprovidelocal360°visible
alarmindication.Theyflashevery3~5secondsindicating
thatpowerisappliedandthedetectorisworkingproperly.
TheLEDslatchoninalarm.LEDswill beoff whena
troubleconditionexistsindicatingthatthedetector
sensitivityisoutsidethelistedlimit.Thealarmcanbe
resetonlybyamomentarypowerinterruption.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:All wiringmustconformtoapplicablelocal
codes, ordinances, andregulations.
NOTE:Verifythatall detectorbasesareinstalled,that
theinitiating-device circuitshavebeentested, andthatthe
wiringiscorrect.
Removepowerfrominitiating-device circuitsbefore
installing detectors.
1. Wirethesensorbaseperthewiringdiagram, Figure1.
2. Install thesensorintothesensorbase.Pushthesensor
intothebasewhileturningit clockwisetosecureit in
place.
3. Afterall sensorshavebeeninstalled,applypowerto
thecontrolunit.
4. Testthesensor(s)asdescribedintheTESTING section
ofthismanual.
5. Notifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesystemisin
operation.

Warning :Forbidconnect24VDCdirectlywithout
current-limiting resistance. Otherwise, thedetectorwouldbeburntout.
Dustcoversare aneffectiveway tolimittheentryof
dustintosmokedetectorsensingchambers.However,
theymay notcompletelypreventairbornedust
particlesfromenteringthedetector.Therefore,We
recommendstheremovalofdetectorsbefore
beginningconstructionorotherdustproducing
activity.
Besuretoremovethedustcoversfromanysensors
thatwereleftinplace duringconstructionaspartof
returning thesystemto service.

TAMPER-RESISTANCE
ModelsDG311includeatamper-resistantcapabilitythat
preventstheirremovalfromthebracketwithouttheuse
ofatool.
TESTING
Beforetesting,notifytheproperauthoritiesthatthe
smokedetectorsystemisundergoingmaintenanceand
will temporarilybeoutofservice.Disablethezoneor
systemundergoingmaintenancetopreventunwanted
alarms.Detectorsmustbetestedafterinstallationandas
partofperiodicmaintenance.
NOTE: Beforetestingthedetector,checktoensurethe
LEDsblink.If theydonot,thedetectorhaslostpower
(checkthewiring),it isdefective(returnit forrepair),or
thedetectorsensitivityisoutsidethelistedlimits.
Thesensorcanbetestedinthefollowingways:
SmokeEntrytest: AerosolGenerator(Gemini501)
TheGEMINImodel501 aerosolgeneratorcanbeused
forsmokeentrytesting.Setthegeneratortorepresent
4%/ftto5%/ftobscurationasdescribedintheGEMINI
501 manual.Usingthebowlshapedapplicator,apply
aerosoluntil thepanelalarms.
Asensorthatfailsany ofthesetestsshouldbecleanedas
describedunderCLEANING,and retested.Ifthesensor
failsaftercleaning, itmustbereplaced.
Whentestingiscomplete,restorethesystemtonormal
operationandnotifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesystem
isbackinoperation.
CLEANING
Beforeremovingthedetector,notifytheproper
authoritiesthatthesmokedetectorsystemisundergoing
maintenance andwillbetemporarilyoutofservice.
Disablethezoneorsystemundergoingmaintenanceto
preventunwantedalarms.
1. Removethesensortobecleanedfromthesystem.
2. Removethesensorcoverbypressingfirmlyoneach
ofthefourremovaltabsthatholdthecoverinplace.
3. Vacuumthescreencarefullywithoutremovingit.If
furthercleaningisrequiredcontinuewithStep4,
otherwiseskiptoStep7.
4. Removethechambercover/screenassemblyby
pullingit straightout.
5. Useavacuumcleanerorcompressedairtoremove
dustanddebrisfromthesensingchamber.
6. Reinstall thechambercover/screenassemblyby
slidingtheedgeoverthesensingchamber.Turnuntil
it isfirmlyinplace.
7. Replace thecoverusingtheLEDstoalignthecover
and thengentlypushingit untilit locksintoplace.
8. Reinstall thedetector.
9. TestthedetectorasdescribedinTESTING.
10. Reconnectdisabledcircuits.
11. Notifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesystemisback
online.
THREE-YEAR LIMITEDWARRANTY
ConvoySecuritywarrantsitsenclosedsmokedetectortobefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipundernormaluseandservice foraperiodofthree years
fromdateofmanufacture. ConvoySecuritymakesnootherexpress warrantyforthissmokedetector.Noagent,representative, dealer,oremployee oftheCompany has
the authoritytoincrease oralterthe obligationsorlimitationsofthisWarranty. The Company’sobligationofthisWarrantyshall be limitedtothe repairorreplacementof
any partofthesmokedetectorwhichisfoundtobedefectiveinmaterialsorworkmanshipundernormaluseandservice duringthethree yearperiodcommencing with
thedateofmanufacture. AfterphoningConvoySecurity’stechnicalsupportnumberforaReturnAuthorization number,senddefectiveunitspostageprepaidtoConvoy
Securitylocalrepresentativeoffice. Pleaseincludeanotedescribingthemalfunction andsuspectedcauseoffailure.TheCompanyshall notbeobligatedtorepairor
replace unitswhicharefoundtobedefectivebecauseofdamage, unreasonableuse, modifications,oralterationsoccurring afterthedateofmanufacture. Inno caseshall
theCompanybeliableforany consequentialorincidentaldamagesforbreachofthisorany otherWarranty,expressedorimpliedwhatsoever,evenifthelossordamage
iscausedby theCompany’snegligence orfault.Somestatesdonotallowtheexclusion orlimitation ofincidentalorconsequentialdamages,sotheabovelimitation or
exclusionmaynotapplytoyou.ThisWarrantygivesyouspecific legalrights, and you mayalsohave otherrightswhichvaryfromstate tostate.
