Important – read before making any audio
connecons
To avoid possible damage to your preamplier, it is essenal
to disconnect all system components from the mains supply
before connecng or disconnecng audio interconnects.
Connecng Turntables
Turntables may be connected to any of the four available
inputs e- h as each input is separately programmable for
use with moving coil or moving magnet cartridges.
Connect the le and right plugs from the turntable audio •
cable to the le (white) and right (red) connectors of the
input you are using.
Connect the ground wire from the turntable to the •
corresponding ground terminal.
Seng the ground li switch
The chassis of the Phono Signature is connected to mains
ground. The Ground Li switch d enables the circuit of the
Phono Signature to be linked to mains ground or isolated.
The seng of this will be system dependent.
The factory seng for the switch is to the ‘LIFT’ posion.
If any hum or buzz noises are apparent when playing a
turntable, seng the switch to the ‘GND’ (grounded)
posion may cure the problem.
If hum or noise problems persist when playing a turntable
and the switch seng does not cure the problem, contact
your retailer to check the ground connecon arrangements
on your turntable and other system components.
Connecng the output
There is a choice of balanced (XLR) or unbalanced (phono)
outputs to connect to your system preamplier/amplier.
NOTE: The Phono Signature does not include a volume
control so it is not suitable for direct connecon to a power
amplier. It must be connected to an amplier that includes
a volume control.
Connecng balanced XLR outputs
The XLR outputs c are compable with balanced audio
inputs on a preamplier.
Connect le and right XLR cables between the le •
and right XLR outputs of the Phono Signature and the
corresponding inputs of the preamplier.
Connecng unbalanced phono outputs
The phono outputs b are compable with unbalanced audio
inputs on a preamplier.
Connect a dual phono cable between the le and •
right phono outputs of the Phono Signature and the
corresponding inputs of the preamplier.
MC-BUS system connecon (Oponal)
By using the MC-BUS connecon aon your Phono Signature,
a highly funconal integrated system with full remote
control may be set up. This feature is usable if you own a
Cyrus amplier. Refer to the relevant product handbook for
MC-BUS wiring instrucons.
External power supply - PSX-R/PSX-R2
The PSX-R is a unique DC power supply that will upgrade
the sonic performance of compable products in the Cyrus
range. The PSX-R2 is a performance upgraded version of
the PSX-R. Both of these power supplies are compable for
connecon to the Phono Signature.
The following text refers to the use of the PSX-R, but applies
also to the PSX-R2.
To connect a PSX-R, disconnect both components from the
mains, then plug the connector on the umbilical cord of the
PSX-R into the Mul-Pole socket on the back panel. You will
need a mains supply for both units.
NOTE: Connecon of a PSX-R is detected automacally, so
no internal adjustments are required.
How it works
When a PSX-R is connected to a Cyrus product, the power
feeds to the internal circuitry are split two ways with the
clean, stable power source of the PSX-R feeding sensive
circuit secons while other requirements are supplied
internally. This ensures complete isolaon of control circuits
and sensive analogue secons, reducing AC mains-borne
noise and power supply ripple.
Connecng to the AC mains supply
Connect the socket on the AC Power cable to the Power inlet
1! on the rear panel of the amplier. Now connect the cable
to a suitable AC power point.
NOTE: The means to disconnect this product from the mains
supply is the mains plug. Ensure that the mains plug is
accessible at all mes.

Cartridge matching
Moving coil cartridges
If you have connected a moving coil cartridge to one or
more of the inputs, you should now refer to the ‘Conguring
MC Inputs’ secon on the next page to congure those
input(s).
Moving magnet cartridges
For inputs set for moving magnet cartridges, the gain,
resisve load and capacive load sengs are pre-opmised
to standard values that best match this type of cartridge.
The GAIN, RES (resistance load), and CAP (capacitance load)
keys are therefore disabled and the indicators will not light.
Warp lter
The warp lter will assist in removing very low frequency
informaon caused by warps in the vinyl. In a high quality
record playing system these large amplitude signals may
overload a preamplier or cause large bass unit excursions
for the loudspeakers.
Press the WARP key • 1! to switch in the warp lter.
The WARP indicator will light and ‘FLTR’ will be

Conguring MC inputs
When an input is congured to play a Moving Coil cartridge,
the gain, resisve load and capacive load sengs may be
individually set to best match the requirements of dierent
pickup cartridges.
Checking the current sengs
The sengs displayed apply to the input that is currently
selected.
Manufacturer’s specicaon
Some cartridge manufacturers will provide output voltage
and opmum loading specicaons for their cartridge. If
these specicaons are available, this is the best starng
point for input conguraon. A typical cartridge specicaon
may read -
Output voltage ..............150μV
Load resistance..............>50Ω
Load capacitance...........Not specied
These specicaons can be used to choose inial sengs
for gain and load.
Gain can be manually set from the table in the next
secon, load resistance should be set to a value above
the manufacturer’s recommended minimum and load
capacitance should be set to the closest value or to the
minimum 220pF when not specied.
If no specicaon is available
If no manufacturer’s data is available for the cartridge, start
with the default sengs for resistance and capacitance
loading and an inial seng of 40dB for gain.
The gain seng can then be determined using the
bargraph.
Seng MC gain
Manual gain seng
The gain sengs for the Phono Signature can be matched to
a cartridge output voltage range as shown in the following
table.
Gain Cartridge output voltage range
40dB 2mV or more
50dB 600μV - 2mV
60dB 250μV - 600μV
70dB less than 250μV
The factory seng is 40dB to reduce the possibility of input
overload. The gain can be increased if required for a lower
output cartridge.
In the ‘Manufacturer’s recommendaon’ example above,
the 70dB gain seng would best match the cartridge.
To change the gain seng -
Press the GAIN key • i.
Turn the ROTARY CONTROL• e to step through the
opons available.
Press the ROTARY CONTROL• e to select a new seng.
The GAIN indicator will change colour from green to
yellow. This indicates that the seng has changed from
the value previously stored.
If you prefer this seng and want to save it for the •
selected input, refer to the ‘Saving changes to sengs’
secon.
Seng gain using the bargraph
The display bargraph can also be used to opmise the
gain seng for a moving coil cartridge. The limit mark on
the bargraph corresponds to an output level equivalent
to a CD player which should ensure compability with
most preampliers. Levels exceeding this may cause some
preampliers to overload.
Play a record that includes loud passages of music.•
The bargraph will show the level of the music as it plays.
Music peaks will hold briey.
Experiment with dierent gain sengs to achieve a bargraph
display that has the largest amplitude without exceeding
the limit mark.
NOTE: If you hear any distoron when playing loud passages
of music, check that the signal level displayed on the
bargraph is not exceeding the limit line and reduce the gain
seng if necessary.

Seng MC cartridge loading
Resisve load seng
In the ‘Manufacturer’s recommendaon’ example, the 50Ω
seng would best match the cartridge shown.
The factory seng is 1kΩ. To change the resisve load
seng -
Press the RES key • h.
Turn the ROTARY CONTROL• eto step through the
opons available.
Choose from 11Ω, 16Ω, 33Ω, 47Ω, 100Ω, 150Ω, 333Ω,
500Ω, 1kΩ, 47kΩ,
Press the ROTARY CONTROL• e to select a new seng.
The RES indicator will change colour from green to
yellow. This indicates that the seng has changed from
the value previously stored.
If you prefer this seng and want to save it for the •
selected input, refer to the ‘Saving changes to sengs’
secon.
Capacive load seng
In the ‘Manufacturer’s recommendaon’ example above,
the lowest 220pF seng would best match the cartridge
shown.
The factory seng is 220pF. To change the capacive load
seng -
Press the CAP key • g.
Turn the ROTARY CONTROL• eto step through the
opons available.
Choose from 220pF, 1nF, 2nF, 3nF.
Press the ROTARY CONTROL• e to select a new seng.
The CAP indicator will change colour from green to
yellow. This indicates that the seng has changed from
the value previously stored.
If you prefer this seng and want to save it for the •
selected input, refer to the ‘Saving changes to sengs’
secon.
Fine tuning cartridge load sengs
Changing cartridge load sengs will not damage a cartridge
and you may nd a combinaon of sengs that you prefer
by changing the sengs while listening.
The eects of changing load resistance and capacitance will
be quite subtle, though seng load resistance to the lower
values will also reduce the output level from the cartridge.
The gain may be increased to compensate if necessary.
Increasing the load resistance may also provide a subtle
tonal correcon to benet older records that have been
played very regularly.
Saving changes to gain or loading sengs
Saving new sengs
If you have made changes to sengs for an input (one or •
more of the GAIN, RES or CAP indicators will be yellow)
and want to save them, press the STORE buon f.
Changes in sengs will be saved and the GAIN, RES and
CAP indicators will change to green.
Reverng to previous sengs
If you make changes to sengs, but do not press the •
STORE key, these temporary sengs will be retained
if you set to Standby, but will be lost if you disconnect
mains power.

Checking programmed commands
Select the mode that you just programmed and check •
that the commands were learned successfully.
NOTE: The TV or SAT mode key should ash red when
sending a command. If the mode key is not ashing, then
the command has not learned correctly.
Make a note of any commands that have not programmed •
correctly and repeat the learning process to add these
in.
NOTE: When you start the learning process it does not erase
any programmed keys so you can re-program individual keys
if required.
Problems with learning
If none of the commands have learned correctly, try re-
starng the learning process again. Test a few keys rst

the test works then connue to program the rest of the
commands you need.
If you sll have problems, check carefully that the mode
light is ashing correctly as you send a command to learn.
If not, it may be that the baeries need replacement in the
reference handset or that the spacing between the handsets
is not ideal. Try adjusng the spacing between the handsets
and repeang the learning process.
If you connue to have problems, it may be that your
handset is incompable with the learning process. This
could happen with an older design of handset or one that
has an unusual code-set.

Once you have programmed all the keys with the commands
you want, you can use the remote control to send commands
to your TV or Satellite receiver etc.
